Fideach -> Population control! (11/28/2011 3:45:25 AM)

Having to deal with revolts and other bad things due to fighting with some empires that are primary made up of one of the insect races that have assimilated into my population. I notice something that really needs to be added in a patch soon, is the ability to individually pick what races you "resettle", "exterminate", "enslave", etc.
For example, the Gizureans out breed the humans in my empire quite easily, and can quickly become the primary species in my empire just by population alone. But anytime I have to go to war with the Gizureans empire, I have revolts.
So now I'm having to implement resettling and enslaving them.. which makes me feel bad, especially since I can't spare the other races in my empire that aren't causing me issues.

Nedrear -> RE: Population control! (11/28/2011 3:50:05 AM)

Noted and seconded. You are not the first who wanted a race specific policy and of course you will have the same support.

Against indiscriminate racism! We want only to kill one species!!

martok -> RE: Population control! (11/28/2011 7:24:36 AM)

Seconded.  I thought that was how subugation/assimilation policy in Legends was implemented anyway (per individual race).  Do not want if I can't selectively apply it!

J HG T -> RE: Population control! (11/28/2011 7:49:18 AM)

We concur.
Some races are actually quite useful to assilimate whereas others are just giant pain in the arse.
The system is good even now but more control definetly would not hurt.

Bingeling -> RE: Population control! (11/28/2011 9:52:29 AM)

I would of course like better control but what I do is:

In the empire policy screen, on the bottom of one of the long lists, are your default race policies. I set this to assimilate to my group, and "do not accept" for the others. This will be the default policy for any colony where you have not said different.

This means you will never have bugs moving into your colonies. And if you grab some bug worlds, you have to decide what to do about them. And in this case you may have problems about really only wanting to get rid of some of the races present.

Does "resettle" only take bugs to your other colonies, or are they also ejected to other empires? That is, if you have "do not accept" everywhere, will resettle work? I sense maybe letting the gizzies colonize one volcanic to use as a penal colony... I did not locate that default setting until some way into the game...

Mysterius -> RE: Population control! (11/28/2011 11:42:25 AM)

Same here, i'd like to control by race and not by race "families" :)

Cauldyth -> RE: Population control! (11/28/2011 12:45:13 PM)

Has my vote too.

EisenHammer -> RE: Population control! (11/28/2011 12:58:52 PM)

I would also like to see race specific policy.

Manzikert -> RE: Population control! (11/28/2011 2:38:29 PM)

I still don't understand why (other than role-playing reasons) you would ever have anything other than assimilate/assimilate?  Can someone enlighten me.

Bingeling -> RE: Population control! (11/28/2011 3:11:10 PM)

Most races are "pissed off" if at war with their own race. This means you may want to get rid of possible rebel causes. I think this depends a bit on your own race as well.

Cauldyth -> RE: Population control! (11/28/2011 3:18:03 PM)

I would like to see immigration policies significantly impact your vulnerability to espionage missions. After all, if you have a society where you've kept most of your worlds 100% furry little rats, it's going to be much more difficult for a giant T-rex spy to go unnoticed! Welcoming, multi-cultural societies should be much easier to infiltrate.

Kruos -> RE: Population control! (11/28/2011 3:20:34 PM)

Very good idea Cauldyth! :)

Shark7 -> RE: Population control! (11/28/2011 3:23:21 PM)

Per race would be nice.

For example, I'd like to assimilate the Zenox, but not the Teekan for example. This one size fits all policy doesn't fit anybody TBH.

Locarnus -> RE: Population control! (11/28/2011 3:28:42 PM)

seconded

I also want to control individually.
For example I have a Shandar volcanic colony taken over close to my homeworld. Now the transports are bringing in lots of my native population to the Shandar colony.
But I dont want my people there!
I would like to have this colony full of Shandar so that I can build colony ships for volcanic worlds without having to research this tech, to claim some important systems.

Why you would do anything other than assimilate:

  • #1 - the aforementioned rebellion issues, if you control population that is the same race as an enemy empire then they are much more likely to revolt. Therefore you would disallow them migrating to your planets, and would actively resettled and/or exterminate them.
  • #2 - Enslaving enemy races can give you huge economic bonuses; especially if you have planets with max population of a race (so pop growth isnt an issue), enslaving a homeworld can give it a +50% income bonus!
  • #3 - Some races (particularly insectoids) get huge victory point bonuses for enslaving other races.
  • #4 - Sometimes it will be advantageous to settle specific races on a planet to milk the most out of their bonuses.

One thing that would also be nice is if I could ban certain races within my empire from producing characters, it's weird when I am enslaving/exterminating a race and they become my new faction leader...

Lol, I agree with this too! I keep expecting the Fleet Admirals and Troop generals of the insect race I'm trying to wipe out to rebel against me with there fleets... which brings to mind an excellent random or non-random event that be nice to add. Loyalty and rebellion issues from characters (with the added ability to kill them off as needed). Be interesting to see one leave your service, or one you dismiss.. come back later with a rebelling colony that breaks away and forms a new empire.. I also want AI\Robots you can research and rebel.

ASHBERY76 -> RE: Population control! (11/28/2011 6:23:46 PM)

I agree I would love the option to pick who I exterminate on a race by race basis, at least on the planet level if not available on a policy level.

dejagore -> RE: Population control! (11/28/2011 7:45:37 PM)

I was trying to find such option ingame, to individually select, how to deal with respective races but couldn't find any :-(
It would be really helpful to add this. 'Master Wishlist Thread' then ?

And if the multi-racial factor impact the spying mechanism (as suggested by Cauldyth) you would have an additional reason to not assimilate/assimilate. ;)

The more I think to this idea the more I like it. But maybe it works already like that, who know...

Kayoz -> RE: Population control! (11/29/2011 4:34:31 PM)

I'm not sure how this is supposed to work...

I would like to keep my Teekan colony (a la derelict ship discovery) purely Teekan - but I'm not sure how to go about doing this.

Nedrear -> RE: Population control! (11/29/2011 5:23:42 PM)

It's impossible. Elliot needs to include this race feature Kayoz.

See if I'm understanding you correctly here Kayoz. You've discovered a derelict Teekan Colony ship
and have awakened them out of stasis. In their gratitude, they pledge allegiance to your Empire and
have given you command and control. You find a nice desert planet to colonize them on, but you just want
the planet to be Teeken only. Is this correct?

If so, just change the colonies population policy of 'Same Family' to 'Assimilate',
and 'All Other Races' to 'Do Not Accept'. That should keep the Colony totally Teeken.
Please correct me if I've misunderstood though! [:)]

Cauldyth -> RE: Population control! (11/29/2011 6:06:24 PM)

Unless your race is in the same family as the Teekan (Rodents) in which case you'll need to set 'Same Family' to 'Do Not Accept' as well.

I do find the options a little confusing. For example, if you're looking at a planet and choose 'Do Not Accept' then that affects the races at all of your other planets (i.e., it prevents them from coming to this planet). But if you choose 'Exterminate' then that affects the race at this planet (i.e. it starts killing them off).

Mysterius -> RE: Population control! (11/29/2011 6:12:13 PM)

I had no real problem understanding how this works. This is all perfectly explained in the galactopedia [:)].

Cauldyth -> RE: Population control! (11/29/2011 6:21:41 PM)

Bah, fine. [:D]

I guess the issue I had was that using the existing options to apply the policy I wanted wasn't intuitive. If you get a new planet with a race you'd like to keep confined to that planet, then you have to change the policy on all of your other planets. I guess the current way of doing things allows for the most versatility though (apart from needing the ability to have policies based on individual races).

To achieve this set the Population Policy for that colony to:
- Same Family: Do Not Accept
- All Other Races: Do Not Accept

"Same Family" means all *other* races in your race family (not including your own race)

ehsumrell1 -> RE: Population control! (11/29/2011 11:35:43 PM)

Wow, thanks for that clarification Elliot. Didn't look at the 'Same Family' that way! [:)]

JSBoomer -> RE: Population control! (11/30/2011 12:09:05 AM)

I like the idea of specific policies for specific races. I feel that the reaction to fighting the same race reaction is a tad strong, I doubt that Nationalism would no longer exist in the future...
Perhaps a change where some races are more racial orientated vs nationalist might be an idea. I would like to be able to invade a Human empire in my way if I like!

Minor complaint for an awesome update though!
