FDRLincoln -> Battle of Noumea, May 15, 1942: KB Catches Allied Supply Convoy, Sinks Transports Carrying Aircraft (7/16/2012 4:04:31 PM)

Although Soryu and Zuikaku have been withdrawn to Japan for repairs, the neutralization of the American carrier force gives KB the freedom to roam against Allied supply lines. Here, aircraft from Akagi, Kaga, Hiryu, and Shokaku find and crush two Allied convoys ferrying aircraft to Australia, plus the cruiser squadron that was providing cover for the convoys. Note that a US Marine squadron of Buffaloes on a training mission tried to intervene in the attack and actually shot down two A6M2s. One dead pilot had 62 experience, 65 air combat rating, the other was 59/63.
