Status Report

Air France

Expansions continues on a slower pace. New aircraft coming online almost everyday from manufacturers. Long haul routes are still being established around the world. Major aircraft upgrade underway with Trident 3B replacing our 727-200 fleet. This is giving us a major savings in fuel, faster turnaround times, higher speed.

Long range aircraft are arriving in good numbers. We have taken ownership of our first DC10-30 and that aircraft has replaced 2 707-320B on a route allowing us to retire these aircraft from service. We have instituted a new policy, any aircraft that is of young life, and great benefit to a younger airline, we scrap the aircraft instead of selling it. This will force the newer start up airlines to buy new from the manufacturers. I take a hit money wise, but cash is not a problem. But these little pissant start up airlines invading my routes are trouble. Right now, they are hitting my short haul routes. That I can handle, but I want to keep them off my med/long haul routes as long as possible.

Major shakeups occur across the board. 800 senior managers are hung from the flag poles upon taking control of airlines. They must conform to Air France way of doing things and they balked. No more slack time. Aircraft must perform to the correct mission. Maximum dollar must be made. New aircraft are ordered to bring this air fleet into the 20th Century. Aging aircraft are to be scrapped as soon as new aircraft arrive. Daily profit on arrival was 15 mil a day, currently 24 mil a day. 4 mil was made by cleaning up the routing system to maximize aircraft usage. The extra was from exploiting routes at airports where gates were already owned.

No major expansions are planned, we will exploit markets as needed. but overall day to day operations will be left to current managers that have been scared straight. The threat of the guillotine looms large for any mismanagement.

This is the reason I resigned. I could no longer operate at any level of competence. So I retired rather than face the guillotine.[:D]

Update TL-Lines

The company is doing better and better.
Reports as of Oct.30th 1972;
Assets : 4.790.000.000$
Daily Operating Profit : 32.000.000$
Airline Rank : 62
Number of AC : 219 of which 22 are leased.
Average Fleet Utilization : 19hrs (out of 20).

The only slight concern is;
Average AC age : 10.4 years.
This is largely due to the fact that the CL44 and An10 are the backbone of our company, and these planes are getting old. We might have to start to look for alternatives, and we might also consider abandoning the 707series. That will be costly..

Plans:
1. We have a total of 15 aircrafts arriving from the factory, models being 747-200Bs and DC 10-30s. These boys will need routes, and should increase DoP by aproxomately 7.000.000$.
2. Look at possible substitutions for the CL44, An10 and 707s
3. Keep looking for "bargains" in the used AC marked
4. Keep looking for new profitable routes.
5. Try to keep the big dogs from squeezing us out of the marked.

Use the DC10-30 to replace your 707-320 series.....range about the same but larger pax........No good substitute for the CL44 profit wise. The only a/c that I can find to replace the AN series is the IL86D......takes 3 dang weeks per delivery, but pax load is bigger, longer range, but profit wise the same.

707-120 series is hard to replace. Real hard. DC10-15 is much bigger but can slide in on 6200 foot runway. But we have a year or 2 to go.

Until the 767-200 and 757-200 arrive, there is no direct replacement for any 707 series a/c. I just ordered 10 707-320B to replace aging a/c. All 727-200 are phasing out for Trident 3B. Even though a lot of my 727-200 are less than 3 years old. I am trying to cut down fuel cost and maint costs.

Unless you count the IL62M.......pax load and range about the same as 707-320B/C models, but runway longer and fuel usage higher. I am going to avoid that puppy.

Correction, we do have the DC8-72 and DC8-73 a/c that could be used to replace the 707-320 fleet......but it's arrival is almost the same time frame as the 767 and 757.

A problem with alot of my routes is that larger pax is a no go as I am allready over max. Guess I could fly fewer trips, and see if I can use the excess hrs for something else. Needs some consideration.

You can go over a certain amount and still fill the a/c. Just adjust ticket price down a little. Or set up a seat configuration that meets your need of pax but has great leg room. I got a few F27 that carry 2F 4C 25Y pax on them. I can keep them full no matter what do to the legroom rating. These hit my smaller routes with 2 a day service. I really try not to hit any route just once a day, I like that frequency rating. But sometimes it just cannot be helped.

Either way, seat config or less cycles, we have almost 10 years before any decent a/c that even approach our needs is built. I try not to set up too many routes on different a/c though, makes upgrading harder. I have a few a/c with 50 hours left on them. I just let them sit. The habit will come in handy if/when they release a version that ties this into maint cost and such.

LOL.....Well, take my 747-200B config......I have 10F 30C 400Y......I could have 405 or 406Y but I give them all an extra 4 inches of leg room. I even had to upgrade from the cheap soda and peanuts to brand sodas and cashews. I got tired of not being able to just match the rates of the bigger opponents. Now I can though. The little guys, I am 75 bucks over them on Y pax prices and stay 100% full.....they have to go way way down on price to really effect me. I got one route that is running 35,000 in the red each day just because the newbie irritated me. I don't even notice the money loss anymore. It has to be a big number for me to even notice someone is messing with my load factor.

I even resorted to better TV's on a 4 per 100 seat and best quality on every new a/c entering my fleet. Note I said new a/c.....I use my old config on used a/c I pick up unless the a/c is 0 years old.

But the void will be a killer.....I am already trying to figure out what I will use to replace my Trident fleet with.

I have not been adding any sort of refreshment or TV/video systems. Tried it a few times early on but didn't seem to benefit (at least at the time).

Key pickup this month:
Popped into the used aircraft bin; saw 8 747-200Cs. Managed to buy three of them before they disappeared. I had 747-200Cs on order but these newly acquired, slightly used, ones are the first in my fleet.

Goal now:
1) Go through routes and swap planes for efficiency,
2) Add flights were possible to maximize passengers.
3) Attempt to increase the fleet utilization rate
3) Deploy scheduled arriving 747s and DC-30-10s as they arrive.
4) Continue checking the used plane market for any 747s, CL-44s, TU-114s and IL-18Ds.

I agree with 2ACR that we are 10 yrs off from worthy upgrades (757 & 767).
Have been picking up the random 707-320B/C when they are aged 5yrs or less. Swapping them in for my 10+ yr old versions. May end up scrapping them for the reasons 2ACR mentioned. Am considering ordering some brand new 707-320Cs so that I can use them to replace the more aging models.

The in flight service can very useful when your routes are invaded. Money wise, they will cost you a lot. Last month I spent 361 mil on in flight service. But I can also match or keep my prices higher than anyone lower ranked than me with these. It keeps the fleeced peons, i mean the paying passengers happy. Best use for them overall is to help out your rating. Gotta keep the fleeced coming back for more and all that.

So far I have spent 121.9 mil on food and drinks for the fleeced.

Air France

Upgrading a/c on existing routes continues. 747-200B, L1011, DC10 family are all arriving in numbers now. Multiple routes have been upgraded with the previous a/c. Fuel savings are starting to show. Small upstart airlines are being annoying along my European routes. The orders have gone out to park 3 Trident 3B off current routes, the search is on for new routes, and smaller jets have been placed on the offending routes. Prices are driven to near rock bottom with high numbers of flights per day. I am taking a loss now on 3 routes. But if they think they can flood my routes with DC7 and run me off, they are crazy. I am also searching for their other routes and will hammer them there too. They will not make a buck off my precious fleeced pax.

Crash and Burn

Things progress smoothly here. The new Guillotine has been installed in the corporate lobby as a reminder to those who fail to deliver. New routes are exploited in the US much to the demise of enemy airlines. Profit is holding strong. 2.7 billion in cash on hand. The US market is a blood bath. There are hundreds of empty routes but they are all very low capacity routes. So we have gone on the offensive and decided to bull our way into several more profitable routes.

New a/c start coming online in the form of DC10-10 and others. At this time, no future orders are planned once existing orders are filled.

European Alliance update

The night owls of the Alliance scored another major coup this early morning when another airline decided to end it's opposition to us. Air France spent roughly 3 billion dollars scarfing up a/c. Seinberg (damn name) spent roughly a billion. Air France scored 4 747-200B and 5 747-100 along with roughly 40 Tu114 that are 4 years or less. Just replacing a/c on routes, daily profit went from 148 mil a day to 153 mil a day. Not a single new route was begun.

Now the search is on for the empty routes.

Yes, that was me. At least our alliance managed to pick up them all up. I know that I quickly put mine to good use on filling out 747 routes that I had previously established but had not been able to "maximise" due to lack of available aircraft.

I have not really noticed that issue......I might have to play with it some.......are you charging money for the meals? I have seen that if you try to charge for the meals, the little people revolt. Unless you have all slots filled in so they have selections and some of them are free.

I found a couple that work for me and never modified them further. Now you do realize that the money for IFS is subtracted from your daily numbers. Lat month I spent 372 mil on IFS. The pax spent 400,000 on the better meals.

It seems there is some sort of issue with the auto update of routes. Either it does not take into account the airline reputation, or it forgets to use "hub-passengers". All routes I resaved manually did fone, those that was done automatically I had to drop prices on 50% of them.

Nah I do not charge, was aiming at increasing myrating, so have three different setups (Norm, Lux, Lux2). But I will not reset them this late again.

Well, when looking ay the main route display, did it have an hour glass? If so, go into manage and hit the research button to do the calculation right then.

yeah, it is the ones you let the game "auto save" (hourglass function) that gets messed up. But on the other side, manually saving for all routes is a severe PITA!

Yes it is......it will slowly do all the calculations and things go back in line. I did the upgrade thing like that a long time ago when I had like 500 routes. It cleaned itself up in about an hour or so.

Good (flyable) routes are getting difficult to find. Some will open up when someone goes bankrupt.
Ordered some new 707-320C's to replace some of my aging models. WIll swap those in as they arrive, swap out the old planes and scrap them. No sense in making them available to someone that will turn around and use them against me.

I think for a period I will take a pause, simply continue to go through the steps above and wait for the next player crash which will bring planes, and newly opened routes.

ALmost forgot, had picked up a crapload of planes earlies as 2ACR had mentioned. Spent hours after that finding a place for them.

Just finished a feeding frenzy of plane purchasing and route grabbing.

Someone crashed (forgot the name).

I lost track of how many planes I bought but my report above had me owning 406 planes. Now on April 15 I own 468...so 62 planes purchased. Managed to find a place for every dang one of them.

My daily profit went from 106,156,162 to $121,429,284.

I cannot hit another keystroke........
