SailingGuy -> Pentagon [CLOSED] (5/1/2012 3:44:37 PM)

Pentagon: An ATG scenario for five players.

Each player sits on one side of an imaginary five sided table (Pentagon). A player's place at the "table" is determined randomly.

You win the game when the two players opposite you (ie not adjacent) at the "table" are eliminated. They are considered to be your enemies. Players adjacent to you at the "table" are not necessarily your friends, as your goal will conflict with theirs.

Your position at the "table" has no bearing on your actual position on the game map.

Example - Players are sitting around the "table" in the following order: Adam, Barry, Clyde, Daniel, and Edward.

Adam wins if Clyde and Daniel are eliminated.
Barry wins if Daniel and Edward are eliminated.
Clyde wins if Adam and Edward are eliminated.
Daniel wins if Adam and Barry are eliminated.
Edward wins if Barry and Clyde are eliminated.

The game is over when one player acheives his victory condition.

You may NOT enter into an ATG alliance, but you may help or hinder other players as you see fit. Even though players adjacent to you at the "table" are not your enemies, you may declare war on them. (Sometimes sham wars are a great way to exchange cities. Or you may want to slow someone down who is close to winning.)

Why I like the idea of Pentagon...
1) Five players usually means I get to do one turn every other day.
2) No pointless negotiations, NAPs, and alliances - you know who your enemies are from the beginning.
3) Some cooperation is possible.

No formal alliances, and thus no tech or resource sharing. Informal alliances and non-aggression pacts are allowed.

Turn order randomly determined.

DropBox used for file transfer. You should check the DropBox daily to see if it is your turn. Some of us check the DropBox hourly. [X(]

Note: Pentagon is not fair. You may be placed far from your enemies, or right on top of them. You may be alone in a resource rich area, or not have any for miles around. You will have no real "friends" to help you out in this game. You are on your own.

Gesh, you got this right! You'd think that if they are going to put your capitol on an eight hex island, that they would at least make it a port city! [sm=00000018.gif]

Greetings, All!

I really enjoy ATG. I love strategy. I like being challenged to think "Outside The Box". But really, what the heck do I do with this!?!? [sm=Crazy-1271.gif] (My favorite part is the six trains I have to work with...)

Krafty -> RE: Pentagon [CLOSED] (5/4/2012 7:31:17 PM)

Trains can be shipped.

You actually have a decent start, I like those little islands. Wether you have land around you or not is the question.

First thing you need, 1000 supply, 4 cargo ships, and PPs. Split yer 60 guys into 4 groups of 10 and leave 20 in capital. Load each 10 onto a cargoship and head out in a different direction. Drop them on cities then immediately pick them back up and head somewhere else.

Next turn you need engineers to build ports. You need the supply to fill the cargo ships with 200 supply each btw.

If you dont find cities that are your people type, you got the engineers to build some factories in your new lands. If the cities arent coastal, you have the engineers to build ports and roads.

Pretty certain youll find good lands. With an oceania map type, were all going to have varying degrees of your same problems. My island is 13 hexes large, and has 1 oil.

Krafty -> RE: Pentagon [CLOSED] (5/4/2012 7:38:21 PM)

Also youre going to learn to love naval transport capacity. Remember you can pick up whole units in a port and transfer them to new ports with the strategic move option. It destroys readiness, and EPs for engineers, but its far more effective than manual shipping. It also doesnt expose yer transports to enemy fire as much if at all.

I put the turn to hatemf90 in the dropbox on the afternoon of May 6th. I posted it in the forum and e-mailed him twice. Hopefully everything is alright...

hadley -> RE: Pentagon [CLOSED] (5/9/2012 3:49:25 PM)

Greetings, All!

I took the liberty of compiling our e-mails into a PDF document. It should be in your dropbox. Hopefully this helps to improve our communication and speeds up the game a bit.

Happy Hunting! ~ Doug

P.S. ~ Thanks for the help, Phil!

SailingGuy -> RE: Pentagon [CLOSED] (5/10/2012 7:52:32 PM)

Absent any communication from the player about RL issues, how long do we wait before a restart or finding a replacement?

hadley -> RE: Pentagon [CLOSED] (5/10/2012 9:52:57 PM)

My two cents worth...

When I began AT it was explained to me that the house rules were that you complete a turn within 48 hours, unless you notify the game otherwise. Without notification, I vote for finding a replacement after five days. Under this guideline, the game gives the player 150% of the doubt. That would be at 5:00 p.m. U.S. Eastern Daylight Time on Friday, May 11th. I'm willing to concede that my subconscious reasoning may have more to do with the fact that tomorrow would be five days, rather than the five day argument itself. (i.e. ~ Let's get the game moving, again!)

I'm currently in four different games. The last time that a turn was played in any of them was 18 1/2 hours ago. Prior to that, 3 days, 6 hours, 44 minutes ago. Kind of disappointing. I know that this is just a game and that life happens, but every evening that I come home and don't have a turn to play is another evening that I have no other alternative but to spend time with my wife! Come on guys, help me out! [:D]

Happy Hunting! ~ Doug
