Does anyone know the ship size limit to be able to sail into/from Saigon? It seems to be nothing bigger than a DD, is that based on class or tonage?

If I remember right the port is 25-30'. Should be good enough for your heavy cruisers and smaller. Probably not any of your carriers even though they might have been able to get their draft shallow enough with a reduced load. The game doesn't get that deep (no pun intended).

Search CVE Saigon Attack and you'll get an interesting read. Whether the port was dredged sometime between WWII and 1964 is another question.

Thanks. I never knew that about the Card. I was familiar with her ww2 service but not her history after.
That's why i love this forum, i learn something new here every day.

CamRanh bay is a pretty good port for the early phase, stick in a few AR ships
to help repair stuff

Since the French CL Lamotte Piquette was actually there - along with Aramis - an AP that enters Japanese service
as Teia Maru - clearly cruiser sized vessels and ships bigger than AKLs can go there. I sailed up the Mekong far
beyond Saigon on a 4200 ton "destroyer" in the Vietnam war.

Embellishing . . .

Note that section relates the rules for navigable river hexes, of which there are a number. I don't have a comprehensive list, but I believe it includes Palembang, Rangoon, Saigon, and Portland, Oregon at least. If you're playing the Japanese you need to plan well when invading Palembang and when bringing supply convoys into Rangoon. Rangoon can better be invaded IMO from Pegu which is not on a river.
