Urban fighting is rather poorly modeled, but even if that got improved, Leningrad would still be extremely difficult to hold. It's the crossing of the Neva and seizure of the isthmus port that kills it. (Or, alternately, taking the Ladoga ports, but that is easier to stop imo.) The city then starves and no real fighting is done for it, it's just a mop up operation.

It is basically impossible to prevent a major river crossing in a light forest hex, even if well fortified, in 1941 if the Axis deploy all his assets correctly. As soon as the Soviet fails a reserve roll, it's game over Leningrad. You'd have to put swamp or heavy forest there to make it really defensible.

I think this game is just about kaput. My patience is just about up. No turn for over 2 weeks and very litttle correspondence from Glenn. I will give it a couple more days and then I will be seeking a new opponent.

Michael T -> RE: Rhine or Ruin (8/7/2012 10:19:15 PM)

Glenn has not completed a move in over 3 weeks now (I last completed a move on the 17/7). He sent an email on the 29/7 saying he would do a turn the next day. I have emailed him since then on 3 occasions. I have not received a reply. I do not know what his situation is but our dealings have been of a cordial nature. But with no move for so long and now no contact I am left with no alternative other than to assume he has quit the game or for some reason can't continue. I will leave the game open in case he returns. Time for me to find another opponent.

Peltonx -> RE: Rhine or Ruin (8/7/2012 10:21:58 PM)

I generally givem 30 days if they can't atleast email I would call it a win ( in most cases).

Pelton

He did the same thing with me and offered to resume the game a long time after he disappeared. Doesn't make him a bad person, but if I were you, I wouldn't be expecting a response any day now.

So yeah, find yourself a new opponent.

Michael T -> RE: Rhine or Ruin (8/10/2012 1:01:20 AM)

Bad person no. But it only takes a few seconds to write an email.

Anyhow Pelton and I will play each other. First game he is German. Then game 2 me German.

Agreed, looking forward to the AAR, the clash of the Titans!

It appears this game is going to be resumed.

Good luck.

Michael T -> RE: Rhine or Ruin (2/5/2013 10:13:32 PM)

This game is on the move again. I have received Glenn's T11. No disasters. He is pushing on to Tula. I have completely lost track of 4th Pz Gp and a Pz Gp 1 detachment. No idea where they are. No doubt they will turn up at the most inconveinient location. Just trying to get my head back into a survival mode for this game after the constant offensive mode in the Pelton game. Anyway full map report at the conclusion of my T12.

Michael T -> RE: Rhine or Ruin (2/6/2013 9:22:17 PM)

T11 done.

Some eye candy for the good guys. 3 Divisions of Hitlerites are sent scurryinng to the west…...

Well as it turns Glenn can't keep playing after all due to other gaming commitments.

He has offered to resign. He said he may be able to play again in 6 months but I am just going to accept the resignation this time around.

I will be looking for another game as German.
