Ahh what might have happened was I saw that each of the race dialog files wasn't using separate text and so I didn't go ahead and do it for the new races either. Which means they will all use the base dialog.

Regarding the ship sets most of them were made by others. I have made some before for the BSG mod. You need some base images from somewhere and I use a free graphics tool called Gimp that I use to create an alpha channel and transparency on the files as you can see in them using the eraser tool and a steady hand. With ship sets keep the files small, the size of ship images in my mod are about right.

@PWOFalcon what virus protection do you use? I use Avira and it has never flagged any issues from mediafire and I have never had a virus on this PC from using it.

dostillevi -> RE: Distant Worlds Extended (5/25/2013 6:37:38 AM)

Ah that's mostly what I do now. I use paint.net, a bit less powerful than GIMP but I like the interface better.

eroots -> RE: Distant Worlds Extended 2.0.2 released 38 races (5/26/2013 5:14:11 AM)

This mod is the best. Thanks for updating it for Shadows!

Solarius Scorch -> RE: Distant Worlds Extended Shadows 3.0.0 released 38 races (5/26/2013 11:58:06 AM)

I have a quick question: when upgrading to the Shadows verion, do I need to update the biases file? The reason I'm asking is that mine is a heavily modified DS Extended's and I'd hate to do it again from scratch. :)

Haree78 -> RE: Distant Worlds Extended Shadows 3.0.0 released 38 races (5/26/2013 12:16:04 PM)

Not at all. Unless you have changed the amount of races in your mod.

Yes I have. That's why I'm asking: I took the DE Extended file and added some more races (mainly the Mass Effect ones from another mod made by Kalthaniell and Quadro7F). Now if I download the new DE Extended version, do I need to use the new version of biases.txt that is included in it, or can I stick to the old biases.txt from the previous version of DE Extended? In other words, was biases.txt updated between the old version and the Shadows version of the DE Extended mod? Because if it was, I'll need to edit biases.txt to add all the new races again and that's quite a bit of work.
I wouldn't bother you so much about this if it weren't for the fact that most other members of the community probably have the same problem. :)

On a different note, for those who haven't noticed: I made a character set for XHumans, it can be downloaded here: [can't post links yet, it's in the modding section under XHumans characters - beta version]. It's still WIP, but it's perfectly playable.

Haree78 -> RE: Distant Worlds Extended Shadows 3.0.0 released 38 races (5/26/2013 6:14:03 PM)

Ok so if you want to use your extra races and update to the Shadows version of Extended then take everything from the new version of extended without the bias file, use your old one. However the ship families have changed to fit the new Shadows ship families in so you may have to bump any ship families you use down the list and update their race files to point to the new ship family.

Of course your extra races wont work that wonderful in the ship design department unless you update them to Shadows as well. See what's changed to see what I mean.

Solarius Scorch -> RE: Distant Worlds Extended Shadows 3.0.0 released 38 races (5/26/2013 6:19:34 PM)

Ah, that's exactly what I wanted to know. Thanks!

FireStarterXoX69 -> RE: Distant Worlds Extended Shadows 3.0.0 released 38 races (5/27/2013 10:37:54 AM)

I made an account on here to specially tell the creator(s) of this mod they did a great job. This is my favorite mod (and the only mod I use for this game). Keep up the good work.

I only have one concern. When you look up the default races in the galactopedia, they all have at least 3 resources that helps boost their race in some kind of way. Is that not implemented in this mod?

Haree78 -> RE: Distant Worlds Extended Shadows 3.0.0 released 38 races (5/27/2013 10:47:23 AM)

Thanks a lot Firestarter, I couldn't done it without the people credited in the original post, a lot of talented people's work has helped me create this.

BigWolfChris -> RE: Distant Worlds Extended Shadows 3.0.0 released 38 races (5/28/2013 12:27:14 AM)

Defiantly using some of those portraits to replace the stock ones, very well done

Haree78 -> RE: Distant Worlds Extended (5/28/2013 12:12:32 PM)

Updated to 3.0.1 to include the updated Gizureans from patch 1.9.0.2.

If you don't want to download 64MB again and you have 3.0.0 version of the mod then once you have updated Shadows to patch 1.9.0.2 then go to:
Matrix Games/Distant Worlds/races/
and copy gizurean.txt

Now go to:
/Matrix Games/Distant Worlds/Customization/Distant Worlds Extended/races/
and paste and overwrite.

Tiberiumkyle -> RE: Distant Worlds Extended (5/29/2013 10:25:17 AM)

Loving the mod, many thanks for this. I've always enjoyed maxxing out the map sizes, and with all the extra races, things get so much more interesting :D

Seraph86 -> RE: Distant Worlds Extended Shadows 3.0.1 released 38 races (5/29/2013 5:55:55 PM)

YES...the more the merrier, thank you Haree78!

now i will try to conquer them all [:D][:D][:D]

Haree78 -> RE: Distant Worlds Extended Shadows 3.0.1 released 38 races (5/30/2013 10:27:17 AM)

Updated to 3.0.2.

This incorporates changes from the latest patch update.
I have also improved the flavour of each pirate faction of the extended races and made changes as per the latest patch update.

DasTactic -> RE: Distant Worlds Extended Shadows 3.0.1 released 38 races (5/30/2013 8:15:55 PM)

Just wanted to thank you Haree for the work you do on this mod. It adds so much flavour to the DW universe and I love how you re-think each of the existing races. I've starting a new Let's Play series using the mod.

Only thingI would love to see added (and I'm not sure if this can be handled as part of the mod or if would need to overwrite the core files) would be to remake the racial help files. Syrian did this with his resources mod and it helps a lot but he didn't need to add any extra files. I'm also not sure how .mht files are structured or built.

Haree78 -> RE: Distant Worlds Extended Shadows 3.0.1 released 38 races (5/31/2013 12:17:15 AM)

You're welcome Das and thanks a lot for the kind words, really looking forward to how this plays out :)

Regarding the help files, it's something I have wished for for a long time, and have requested several times for modding changes. I have attempted to make changes but I'm really not that chuffed about making changes to the Galactipedia if it is just half a job, just changing the current race images and not being able to add the new races. Is just changing the images of the current races desired though? If so I can look in to how to do that and sort it out, let me know if you would want that.

dostillevi -> RE: Distant Worlds Extended Shadows 3.0.1 released 38 races (5/31/2013 6:27:11 AM)

Hopefully its full steam on into the modding expansion and then on into DW2!

Mansen -> RE: Distant Worlds Extended Shadows 3.0.1 released 38 races (5/31/2013 9:09:39 AM)

Editing the existing help files is very easy - it's the new files that is the problem. Hopefully Codeforge listens to our pleas soon. [:(]

Constantine XI -> RE: Distant Worlds Extended Shadows 3.0.1 released 38 races (5/31/2013 3:47:55 PM)

Next game I am going to try this, it will likely be the first mod I try. I really like that each faction has interesting information associated with it, and also interesting gameplay and strategy considerations.

I thought I read that this includes shipsets...is that correct? And is it just assigning some of the default shipsets to each faction, or does it actually include new shipsets? Also, how does the mod handle existing factions?

Might be useful to update the OP with a little more detail.

Really looking forward to trying this! Thanks!

Mansen -> RE: Distant Worlds Extended Shadows 3.0.1 released 38 races (5/31/2013 3:58:09 PM)

Yes - Extended includes shipsets for the new races. Pretty sure they're all (Sirians?) shipsets taken from Gratuitous Space Battles. :)

Ah, I see what you and Mansen mean. Hardly any point if new pages can't be added. That's a shame. Funny choice of the devs to use an html system to display the information but then not to use the same system to index the html files. Even an xml index file would have been cool to allow additions.

fiju -> RE: Distant Worlds Extended Shadows 3.0.1 released 38 races (6/4/2013 8:45:05 PM)

just wanted to say THANK YOU for this BEAUTIFUL MOD..[&o] and i wonder.. is last version 3.0.2 compatible with new update 1.9.0.4??

Tiberiumkyle -> RE: Distant Worlds Extended Shadows 3.0.1 released 38 races (6/5/2013 12:25:05 AM)

Works fine for me.

Azuran -> RE: Distant Worlds Extended Shadows 3.0.1 released 38 races (6/5/2013 2:58:48 AM)

Works in 1.9.0.4

Haree78 -> RE: Distant Worlds Extended Shadows 3.0.1 released 38 races (6/5/2013 3:54:17 AM)

Thank you :)

And yep this mod should always be kept up to date, just check on new versions if I have updated it for it, otherwise it will be compatible.

Azuran -> RE: Distant Worlds Extended Shadows 3.0.1 released 38 races (6/5/2013 8:09:42 AM)

Have you tested if you can load more than 39 Empire races in Shadows?

Also if you use Notepad++ its way easier to edit Biases.txt files because all the columns line up nicely. Here is a screenshot below of what I mean.

You can also hold ALT and highlight to select vertical text. Makes it alot faster to add a new race biases.text column.

dostillevi -> RE: Distant Worlds Extended Shadows 3.0.1 released 38 races (6/5/2013 8:56:28 AM)

@Azuran I recommend a program called winmerge for editing. It isn't as powerful as notepad++ but it does a direct comparison between two text files and highlights differences. Very useful if you're trying to find where you made an error, or where changes were made between updates.

Haree78 -> RE: Distant Worlds Extended Shadows 3.0.1 released 38 races (6/5/2013 2:15:05 PM)

Should be able to make 39 races no problem.

I was limited by the amount of available ship sets out there and also the amount of stuff I could do through modding to really make the races unique and play differently than the 38 we have now ;)

dostillevi -> RE: Distant Worlds Extended Shadows 3.0.1 released 38 races (6/5/2013 5:13:34 PM)

Haree78, did you ever experiment with very high birthrate races? I was thinking of adding or modifying one insect and one rodent race to essentially overrun the galaxy. They wouldn't be very strong troop or spaceship wise, but they would expand quickly and have a strong economy due to high population. Any thoughts?
