lightheart -> Colony Ship stuck at 96% build (8/20/2012 10:17:39 AM)

I have just started playing this awesome game, having alot of fun now that I get the basics (mostly just control fleets and defense atm).

However my third Colony ship is stuck at 96%, a single component waiting to be built, for a long time.

I am not sure why it won't complete the build. I have checked components, construction and resources in Galactopedia (sp?) to see if I am missing a component or something ...but am unsure how to get a missing component (if this is the problem) without a Colony ship to expand and attain said resource.

I really cannot find the answer, can anyone give me some advice?

Might be the construction is missing a resource that would be provided by a cargo ship... But how to check for what is missing I dont know.

I will have to defer to knowledgeable DWers.

This is a common question. You should search the forum history for the answer as their are many good posts explaining the possible causes and solutions.

^ok, sorry and thanks.

I worked-out how to check components, I don't have any polymer.

How would I aquire polymer if I don't have a colony ship to colonise a new planet ...I don't think I could build mining stations either.

I cannot trade with the only other colony I have met.

So is that it, is the only option to hope they find polymer on an existing colony?

Pipewrench -> RE: Colony Ship stuck at 96% build (8/22/2012 5:06:12 AM)

no , there are many options so take heart.

Explore as fast as you can and see if you find another empire that has polymer. Trade should start flowing if they are not too far away. You will pay a cost for that trade but it will get you going again.

The other option is independent freighters. If an independent colony knows where you are it might just start to trade with you.

Sorry to hear about the stoppage in your building program. Everyone has gone thru that lesson and it hurts when it happens.

I suspect it only hurts when you're a newb, once you get into the game it shouldn't be a problem but simply an aspect ofgameplay.

^Thanks for the advice.

If you got a Polymer income from your colony or Mining station or somewhere close for a mining ship, just wait.

If you dont got any income, you should cancel the the build and try to deploy a mining station on a polymer source by our own. You better control the Constr. ship and dont give just the queue order to build.

feelotraveller -> RE: Colony Ship stuck at 96% build (8/22/2012 4:24:16 PM)

One possible emergency solution to your problem is the retire a ship(s) which contains polymer (look in it's construction summary) at your spaceport.  The resources used in the construction of your ship will be added to your spaceport reserves.  If you are close to finishing you colony ship it might be enough polymer to finish the job and get your colonizer on the way to a polymer source.

Or you could raid a Romulan dance party. They have enough polymer in their pants to build two spaceships.

MartialDoctor -> RE: Colony Ship stuck at 96% build (8/22/2012 10:02:54 PM)

Due to the way resources are managed by the AI, I find the best thing to do is to build construction ships and colony ships at your home planet, or at another busy port planet.

More resources flow through them and, as long as you have the available resources, they will be constructed more quickly there.

I've tried building ships at other planets, some even close to my home planet, and they won't finish building or they go very, very slowly. However, if I build them at my home planet, they finish very quickly.
