A revolution in the VVS is coming next month. Production focus changes from fighter-bomber aircraft to fighter aircraft. This will allow to fight the Luftwaffe more effectively and gain total air supremacy. List of changes:
- fighter-bomber Yak-1B: 3x17 per week, production ends
- fighter-bomber La-5F: 3x19 per week, production ends
- fighter Yak-3: 5x25 per week (initially 53), production starts
- fighter Yak-9M: 3x25 per week, production starts
- fighter-bomber La-7: 3x22 per week, production starts

Total fighter production changes from 94 to 300 per week, while total fighter-bomber production changes from 325 to 280 per week.

40th Army (Transcaucasus Front) was renamed to 1st Guards Army. 23rd Army commander, Ivan Bagramyan, was promoted to the rank of General-Leytenant. Ten light SU regiments and two separate tank regiments were disbanded.

Morvael, is it really true as you said that GD is enough to stop an entire Soviet front?

In a sense yes. I rely on hasty attacks from my Tank Armies to make reasonable gains, otherwise I am left to making deliberate attacks and advancing one hex per turn. The number of reserve activations these guys (GD) get is amazing, sometimes 4-5 times per turn, even the SS guys doesn't do that. Usually, after a failed hasty I repeat it, since I don't want to waste MP on moving somewhere else or going the deliberate way. So I attack and attack. And they activate and activate. And I get held after held result. I guess that over half of my failed attacks along the entire front are in the GD sector. I need to do some stats on that. Their defiance costs me 4-5 morale points per corps and the tank % falls down to 30% of TOE. This means I need 2+ turns to get such tank army back into action. Meanwhile the front grinds slowly and the Germans withdraw in order.

Weather on the central part of the front finally improves. Thanks to all-cavalry 3rd Shock Army, 66th Army is able to cross Dnepr south of Chernobyl:

Even in the swamps of Polesie, Red Army prevails. First Polish unit, 2nd Infantry Division, enters combat and ensures that Vasilevichi falls into Soviet hands. To the north, units of 1st Ukrainian Front cross Berezina:

Huge tank battles near Minsk, heavy IS-2s enter combat for the first time and the effect is noticeable, as hundreds of tanks on both sides burn. Enemy has at least 10 panzer divisions in the region used to plug the gaps and counterattack, but still the German 31st Infantry Division is surrounded. Near Molodechno the leading tank elements of the Red Army trample the HQ of German XIIth Corps under their tracks:

to steal a phrase from professional cycling, you really are putting the hammer down on the good Cpt. Be interesting to see if you can push him to actual breaking point or if he can carry on just absorbing your offensive and falling back in some order

Turn 153 (May 18th, 1944)

Good progress in the "Rumanian" sector. Sometimes even hasty attacks are enough to force German units to withdraw. Smaller mountain and airborne divisions man the Dnestr line, where the river is wide, to allow mighty rifle corps formations move west to cross the river, where it's no longer a serious obstacle:

Fatal turn of events in the center... With Red Army fully commited to the attack in the Minsk region and it's hand revealed - mud strikes back! STAVKA's meteorological officers are immediately stripped of rank and sent to Siberia to count the trees. Even the capture of Kiev, that the Axis had evacuated without offering resistance, is not celebrated in Moscow:

German 31st Infantry Division surrenders after bravely resisting several attacks of 2nd Tank Army, whose commander made a mistake of commiting tanks in bad ground conditions. With the offensive plans thwarted by weather, it's better to regroup quickly and hit the Wehrmacht where it doesn't expect it. Surely, the Minsk region is now being heavily reinforced and fighting here will be reduced to a brutal slog, and so three tank armies begin their travel south:

Leningrad Front advances slowly, while the 2nd Baltic Front stops on the Dvina river and expands it's frontage, to allow 1st Baltic Front move south. This will strengthen the right flank of the attack on Minsk, where the terrain is difficult - full of lakes, rivers, swamps and forests:

16th Army is renamed to 2nd Guards Army. 30th Army commander, Ivan Fedyuninsky, is promoted to the rank of General-Polkovnik. 41st Army commander, Filipp Gorelenko, improves his mech skills (4). Five light SU brigades, fourteen heavy tank regiments, a flame tank regiment, a mortar regiment, a light rocket regiment and a flamethrower battalion are formed. Fifteen separate tank regiments and one mortar battalion are disbanded.

Production of LaGG-3 '66 series' (18/week) and lend-lease shipments of Hurricane IIC (12/week) were ended. Lend-lease shipments of P-63A (35/week) started.
