As LiquidSky said: In your game you very early started to get defensive goals because your modded starting strategic position allowed for this.

I see but did Vic not make a change in one of the Patch's and set Strategic rating at 6 which stops giving offensive missions and defensive missions till the trigger cities have been taken ? But you may be right I have lost track with what mods we are using lol. Regardless I do agree that regarding trappenjagd the dismissal rule needs attention.

No..he changed it so that it doesn't give Major missions until level 5.

We're playing the normal supply rules, so isnt the supply out request to cover all troops including those in the Crimea? Does that supply still count in the supply out request even though it is not received?

You can see the UNIT DETAILS tab under Supply Stats the supply that is lost...under Supply Lost. You will have to check every unit, since under normal supply rules, STAVKA is the HQ that supplies every unit for the Russians.

Reconvet -> RE: May 22 1942 / Turn 6 (11/23/2012 7:37:14 PM)

The Stavka numbers somehow don't add up for me, there are discrepancies that don't make sense to me. To use my Stavka example from my post 58 on the previous page (numbers quoted from the Stavka basic detail view):

A) Supply Stock ---------- 5587 --> supply reserves in Stavka warehouses/bunkers
B) Supply in -------------14619 --> sent to Stavka from Moscow
C) Supply Out Req -------15203 --> supply needs reported by all units on the map = total supply needs
D) Supply Out ----------- 14227 --> ???

If D) is the amount of supplies sent out by Stavka then why does Stavka not send out some more to cover the lacking supply (in this example 15203-14227) from its supply reserves? Why do units have to live with a shortage of toothpaste if Stavka bunkers have spare stuff to be handed out?

But D) might also include a deduction of transport losses due to Axis air interdiction of my supply lanes. So Stavka sends out the full supply tonnage as requested by the units (15203), and the discrepancy to the arriving supplies (14227) could be explained as the sum of the interdicted supplies? If so then "Supply out" maybe should be renamed with something like "Supplies delivered" to reduce headaches for us poor players.

I could also live without discrepancy between B) and C). Probably C) will be delivered by Moscow in the following turn, needing some time to count beans before they are sent out one by one, God forbid front troops receive more than they request... Supply reserves really might be a bit more generous, as I haven't seen Stavka supply stock go above 11'000 yet.

Ah well, after the Crimea is gone my supply headaches should hopefully be gone too. No more sealane interdiction losses...

Soviet starting situation on turn 7:

Bonners has been busy assembling his armoured steamrollers south of Kharkow, while my time to grab my prestige objective is running out. I decide to start a last attempt to close in on the city center from the south. 28A north of Kharkow is stalled and is unlikely to gain ground again.

Soviet offensive moves

My attacks were not the success I had hoped for, so I give up on Kharkow. Heavy hearted I choose to fall back with an intact 6A instead of risking to get it cut off as it happened in real life in 1942, as Bonners has assembled a very potent force for a counter-offensive south of the city. I won't even play the "More time" card, I'll just blame my lame generals and bad luck with the weather for this failure. *g*

Reconvet -> RE: May 26 1942 / Turn 8 (11/24/2012 10:51:26 PM)

Soviet situation on turn 8:

The first time in this game that I welcome muddy weather. Bonners only moved very few units north of the Crimea. Probably didn't want to polish muddy tanks before he unleashes them on my diggers again.

The term diggers suggests I didn't move on land a lot either. But my transport ships in and out of Kerch were very busy. As previously announced I'm evacuating valuable stuff to the mainland. And bringing one or the other fully fed garrison unit into Kerch to delay him some more, if possible. Each "more time" card Bonners has to use is a fighter/stuka/panzer/infantry card he won't buy...

Logistics:

Stavka still does not get all the supplies from Moscow that my armies need…

No other interesting developments or insights this turn, so to finish this turn report just a quick glance at overall casualties. I'm quite satisfied with this kill ratio. Don't know if Axis can sustain this attrition rate for long. And his Stukas have suffered badly, he only has two thirds of his top tank killers left (down to 250 from 350).

To be precise from v1.04 onwards you dont get major missions as soviets until level 6.

I am following most AARs and am very happy to read them. Its great to evaluate balance issues.

I am going to look into reducing the minor orders for the Soviets at level 5 as well.

best,
Vic

Thanks for your efforts. I'm looking forward to what you come up with regarding orders from Berlin/Moscow. [:)]

Reconvet -> RE: May 28 1942 / Turn 9 (11/27/2012 2:39:42 PM)

Soviet situation at start of turn 9:

The battle for Kharkow is over, the struggle to keep Axis from crossing the Donetz is about to start.

After giving up on Kharkow I continue to pull back there. I have better plans for my 6A than leaving it stranded behind a blown bridge for no return on investment. Being able to immediately repair this Kharkow bridge again is kind of helpful for my retreat over this major river called Donetz.

I decide to test my Sturmoviks after seeing Bonners use most of his fighter groups as airbase raiders. I figured he couldn't have much CAP capacity left. Result: 30 of my escorting fighters and 5 IL-2 lost for a handful of his tanks, bad deal (my screenshot of this combat report was too shocked to be saved properly). It's still too early for guerilla tactics in the air, this attack throws back my buildup for contesting air superiority for several turns…

North of Kharkow I see the opportunity to maul two german regiments in a 3-hex attack. One of those breaks right away, while my tanks have to pursue the other one after it panicks and retreats, and kill it on the neighbouring hex.

By the way Stalin was not happy that Kharkow was not liberated. Showing his outstanding situational awareness he immediately orders me to take Feodosiyia on the Crimea by june 7th. No problem for him that Axis 11A has utterly shattered my Crimean Front and that the Crimea is a supply blackhole. He also forgot to add transport planes, an airborne infantry army and 1000 well piloted fighter planes to my forces, so I'll just pretend I never got this brilliant order.

Soviet situation on turn 10:

Not much to do for me other than finetuning my defensive lines and keep digging in. Nice entrenchments behind rivers and on forest/hill/urban hexes is the only way to prevent/limit axis breakthroughs at this stage of the game. I want to keep my divisions as intact as possible to slowly fall back from one defendable position to the next, without getting forced into an uncontrolled full retreat. Time is on my side as long as I can prevent large encirclements.

New general in town: Smirnov. With his org-skill of 65 he's destined to take up a front command. He only gets 1 command point per turn with which to train up subordinate army HQ's, but I'll have to use what I get.

The idea was to attack your units before they reached the river and take it at the rush. I should've given up and moved them elsewhere at the point the AAR has reached...C'est la Vie[:D]

Some things we just have to try out. If they don't work as intended then we try something else next time. I've made my share of mistakes and just hope to avoid them in future. *g*
