general_solomon -> close combat 3d (11/21/2012 11:22:10 PM)

I am very excited to hear matrix owns the full rights to cc. congrate on the panther. now its time for the 3d game.

I would love to see a 3d top down game with distribute environments sort of like men of war series.

any word on the 3d game yet?

Dowly -> RE: close combat 3d (11/21/2012 11:39:03 PM)

I'd be happy with Achtung Panzer + added multiplayer. [:)]

bairdlander2 -> RE: close combat 3d (11/21/2012 11:39:42 PM)

Yes its called Actung Panzer Operation Star,scroll down

wodin -> RE: close combat 3d (11/21/2012 11:47:41 PM)

CC 3D will be a different proposition to APOS as it will be topdown 3D only, and I'm all for new games at squad scale.

What I'd love though is if they decide to throw caution to the wind and create something not made yet..thats 3D topdown WEGO game.

Also get multilevel buildings in game..something that APOS doesn't really have..add explosives to blast through walls and cellars and sewers and we have something special. We would finally have a squad game that could do ciy fighting well.

SapperAstro_MatrixForum -> RE: close combat 3d (11/22/2012 4:00:37 PM)

I still cannot see the advantages in 3D to be honest, and nobody has yet outlined why it would be better.

helm123456789 -> RE: close combat 3d (11/22/2012 4:16:14 PM)

Sales would be the number one advantage. This would bring in more revenue which would in turn fuel more development. I'm not one that needs flashy graphics to enjoy a game. But I know that the reality of the issue is opposite. Many will base their purchase solely on the look of screen shots.

captskillet -> RE: close combat 3d (11/22/2012 6:22:33 PM)

I dunno about the 3d stuff but if they would give the South Pacific some love it would make my day................this engine is screaming for some Guadalcanal, New Guinea or Burma!

3D makes it easier to see hills and valleys, which is difficult in Close Combat. Even if you see the world from directly above I think it will be easier with 3D, because you can see how the picture changes slightly when you move around, and that gives a perception of depth.

general_solomon -> RE: close combat 3d (11/23/2012 3:50:00 PM)

I hope they build a cover system for the new game and action spots for units.

wodin -> RE: close combat 3d (11/23/2012 4:10:29 PM)

All remember it will be 3D top down only...not like CMx2 and APOS etc etc. It's going 3D top down as they can recreate higher fidelity LOS and terrain elevations\cover etc etc..also with the tools around it's alot easier to make a 3D game these days than a 2D one.

I never had this problem myself. The shadowing on any decently made map, along with the right click (which shows height of ground) was always sufficient for me.

Still, they are doing it in 3D no matter what I think or say, so we shall just have to wait and see what comes.

Tejszd -> RE: close combat 3d (11/24/2012 3:57:50 AM)

What I hope 3D brings is a more dynamic environment;
- Ground that gets ripped up by tank treads
- Water that moves and when units go through it gets dirty
- Wind that blows smoke
- Sun that moves based on the time of day and affects/changes the shadowns

SapperAstro_MatrixForum -> RE: close combat 3d (11/24/2012 4:04:14 AM)

Sounds nice Tejszd. I would love all that.

For myself, I will start off with;

- not be a complete FU like every other 3D knockoff of the series.
- not look like a graphical downgrade due to the devs being unable to create decent looking 3D images/maps (anyone remember the initial Europa Universalis 3 compared to its 2D predecessor?)

general_solomon -> RE: close combat 3d (11/24/2012 4:35:30 AM)

I am all for the 3d top down, this way i dont have to worry too much with camera angles. this is going to be a super game. hope it doesn't take 4 years to make.

I do like the cm games and apos but they are not cc.

In addition to scroll wheel zoom and better visualization of elevation/LOS, Im hoping 3D CC provides multi-level buildings where all levels are playable.

z1812 -> RE: close combat 3d (11/24/2012 12:38:17 PM)

It is interesting that changing to a three dimensional engine seems to be such a focus when for such a long time poor vehicle pathing and computer A.I. have been the main complaints through the years.

The last 2 games I bought were COI and CCMT. Then I stopped. I have all the rest.The series has lots of potential but 3D is not high on my list.

Much improved Pathing and A.I. would be first. Then I would look for a wego turn based option so play by email could be part of the package.

3D game engines allow for leading edge AI middleware to achieve these rather than attempting to graft better AI/pathing into CC's creaky 20th century code base.

Thats good news. Matrix\Slitherine should talk that up a bit.

general_solomon -> RE: close combat 3d (11/25/2012 1:17:19 AM)

I think the key to the success of this game is the map / unit editor. let people be able to mod the hell out of the game and they will increase their base. also, pricing oft the games should be decreased so that those folks that may not buy it at 50 may opt for it at 20.

wodin -> RE: close combat 3d (11/25/2012 4:03:37 AM)

general we all know we wont see them selling at $20;)

Also give out mod tools that will cut into any future expansions.

Finally lets be overly cautious...if this is an in house Matrix development then looking around apart from quick fan led\based touch ups of old games any big new development either takes a very long time (World in Flames) or never see the light of day (Combat leader, Battlefields,Close Assault). Slitherine do have a better pedigree though.

Real and Simulated Wars -> RE: close combat 3d (11/26/2012 2:02:00 AM)

There is a Close Combat 3D series out there already. Eric Young's Squad Assault series! No kidding :P
Gameplay Video
Cheers,

junk2drive -> RE: close combat 3d (11/26/2012 2:30:23 AM)

Eric used to hang around here but I haven't seen him post in a while.

general_solomon -> RE: close combat 3d (11/26/2012 2:51:01 AM)

I have both versions of the game. it could have gone somewhere but i received no support. even back then, eric supplies customers with a map editor.

matrix should outsource the game to a russian company like 1C. they have the experience in the squad level 3d world.

Real and Simulated Wars -> RE: close combat 3d (11/26/2012 5:26:54 AM)

Hi,

Last thing I know from him is that he was working as a security consultant somewhere in the US East Coast. This was some years back ...
