Any idea when this game could be ready? Also when can we expect a separate forum for discussion of this game?

Our goal is the 4th quarter of this year. As for when there will be a forum, not until this summer at the earliest.

We just met a major milestone today by being able to shift the map system over to a tile based system with an editor. The way it's built and the flexibility it has for custom tiles should allow the artists to produce a map that looks just about as good as a hand painted map but with the flexibility of a tile map. Since we have all our map data done for the entire European area from Ireland to east of the Urals and from Norway to North Africa, we will soon have not only the WitW map done, but 95% of the entire map done. That means once WitW is done, we can quickly put a WitE 2.0 into testing while also moving to WitW 1940 or 1941-43. Having the flexibility of a tile system with the ability to get a great looking map is a great thing for current and future development.

I have a suggestion about a follow-on game. What about a modern variant of a World War III in europe between Nato and Warsaw Pact medio eighties.

That's a good idea, as Gary did several games on that topic back in the 80s. However, it would probably have to be done with smaller turn lengths as everything is motorized and the action would be fast and furious. There would be a huge amount of data work to be done to get the data for all the units and weapons of the time.

Drool. I wouldn't argue!

The Guru -> RE: GG War In the West (3/23/2013 12:02:59 PM)

What are (for the moment) the major changes, or new features, of WitW compared to WitE?

Joel Billings -> RE: GG War In the West (3/23/2013 6:14:35 PM)

New Air Game
New Weather Model
New Logistics System/Depots
New Rail Rules/Rail Usage
Altered Combat Formulas
New Amphib/Paradrop Rules
New Victory Conditions
East Front (other fronts) Control Option
Multi-Role Units (can switch from support to on map)
...

The Guru -> RE: GG War In the West (4/7/2013 2:06:30 PM)

Any change planned for how recon works?
For the moment it is not very satisfactory. Aerial recon gives such a detailed picture of enemy positions that surprise is never achievable, which is really sad 'cause the "double blind" is one of the main advantages of computer wargames over cardboard ones . On the other hand, it is often a giveaway of your intentions (does Stalin have to be informed that the Germans flew a couple of Fieseler Storch over this or that hex?)
Regular intelligence operations ( radio traffic, prisoner interrogation, etc, spying, etc) is non existant
