I really don't think Bombay can be taken unless he can a)run you out of supplies, or b) win the air war so completely that in heavy urban terrain he can inflict enough airfield damage to keep you from rebuilding level 1 or 2 forts (even then, I would be skeptical). You've got a lot of engineers there, and even if he can rotate out divisions freely, I just don't see him breaking that in heavy urban while you have supplies. The disruption will just be so high, and level 2 forts build so quickly with that kind of engineering staff.

Gotta say, GJ. You are getting pretty darn good at this game. [&o]

Thanks guys. Here's the screenshot of the present China situation. You can see the sites of the most recent battles where, so far, we've been able to stop the japanese advance

Junyo is down, i'm shocked you didn't see her sink outright with that sort of damage.

Also taking Fulmars into battle... you're a brave man!

I'm surprised too! I even didn't see anything in the intel report that can confirm her sinking... but with 4 torps she cannot survive

Fulmar are bad, we all know it, but they are just pretty adequate for escorting slow biplanes into battles

I am playing MrKane as the Japanese against his allies and he definitely is beating me ... I havent crashed the Japanese economy yet and I do have some things going for me. But its almost July 1942 and I am behind on the conquests by far. I do have the advantage of having caught him napping in Ceylon where I sank a carrier in port (game claims it was an American CV but I am pretty sure it was British) and I caught all of the British reinforcement battleships at sea with the KB but have no confirmation of them sinking (45 hits on one and no sinking stupid Val bombs) and I just got a US carrier for the loss of one of the mini KB light carriers.

He will forget to check some things (dont we all) but he does get turns around extremely fast. I feel like I am the slow one and we usually can get at minimum 2 turns a day.

Good luck GJ and I will be following this to try to get even more feel of his play style.

MrKane is a very good player imho. He seems to have a very clear strategic view as Japan. I think i've surprised him in some cases just because he didn't expect me to be so aggressive with my carriers so early.

By now we've got: 2 CVEs, 1 CV, the BB Yamashiro and some 5 CLs. The Ise and the Yamato both ate 2 torps each, so they should need yard time.

I think the best way to deal with the allied inferiority in 1942 in terms of CVs is to divide them early on. With 3 different groups of 3 CVs each you can do a lot of simultaneus operations and the KB cannot be everywhere. Keeping all your CVs togheder will possibly mean losing them all, while if you keep on playing cat&mouse game with several CVTFs you minimize the risk and you force him to burn a lot of fuel, hunting shadows all around the world.
This is what i've learnt from QBall[&o]

Me neither, but i have to say i've been surprised to see him dropping two forts so fast...so i may be surprised again...
However the Heavy Hurban is a great bonus, even without forts and my supplies are pretty in good shape. The arrival in India of the XII Corp may be a game changer...even if he can conquer Bombay, he will need quite a lot of time imho...and during that time the rescue army can arrive to threaten the flanks of his indian conquests

Great, a new GJ AAR! Now, who's your opponent?

Don't think i'll do a complete AAR. For sure I wanted to skip the first boring months... but the match against QBall (which will be resumed on July 16th) has the priority, also for what concerns the AAR...and I don't have that much time lately (well, until august anyway).

My opponent is Mr.Kane. I can tell you: he may not be that well known on the forums but he's a damned good Japanese opponent who knows its job far better than me

+1

Encircled -> RE: India again??...why always me?!!? (7/9/2013 7:02:53 AM)

Surely with your tanks units and the wide open spaces (and it applies to him as well), there are going to be some real chances for some encirclements that are going to rival Vyazma?

He can't possibly take Bombay before you can put him into real trouble

Once the tanks start to roll in, i think the situation will already be in allied favour. His tanks are good, sure, but cannot compete with mine and my Emergency reinforcements divisions have enough AT guns to really ruin his day.
The fact is that the more he lingers in India, the more problematic will get his situation in the Pacific. As far as i can tell, only the 53rd division , recently bought out from Tokyo, may be around in the pacific... and that is not enough without the Kb guarding his lines.

If he moves the Kb back, i'll be able to send more reinforcements to Karachi from Aden and from Diego, using 3 US CVs and the RN CVs in order to provide air cover.

His Netties may be a problem but he doesn't have enough sentais to both cover Socodra, Bombay, Colombo and the Whole Pacific at the same time

GreyJoy -> RE: India again??...why always me?!!? (7/9/2013 11:16:26 PM)

June 2, 1942

Synch bug strikes again :-(((((( Seems that the last 4/5 days have all been a fake!!!! [:@][:@][:@] Guess that's why we didn't have any report of the sinking of the enemy CV...and that's why the Yamato (who ate, in MY world, 3 torps in two days) was still able to perform 27 knots

From what i can understand, the situation doesn't look good at Bombay.

3 days of constant (unopposed) naval bombings have wrecked my air force, Killing more than 100 planes on the ground and shutting down the AF. Then his tojo sweeps did the rest... i had to evacuate the AF...:-( He then attacked after the last 2 naval bombardments, dropping the forts to 3 [X(], even if suffering more than 20,000 casualities in the process... but man! 6 forts really lasted NOT long!!!

However my INF units are still in good shape and i have plenty of supplies... his adjusted AV rario is still less than 1-10 so he's still long way from getting it, but forts are really dropping fast and now the airspace is his...

However, we're moving forward. The allies continue to assemble their forces in the pacific, while the KB remains at Colombo, leaving the dirty job to his BB/CAs at Bombay.

Thaiti has been garrisoned and now we're unloading 50k supplies and 50k fuel...i need a port half way from Oz to US.

The 53rd Division is unloading at Guam...while the 54th is been moving around in the DEI AFAIK from signin reports... that means he has already bought out 2 Divisions....gotta keep track of them

GreyJoy -> RE: India again??...why always me?!!? (7/9/2013 11:20:25 PM)

Mr.Kane just told me that one of his CV got, IN REALITY, 2 torps in his belly during the last turn...i guess it was near Colombo, where we spotted the KB last time...

Schlemiel -> RE: India again??...why always me?!!? (7/9/2013 11:23:40 PM)

I still don't think forts are at all necessary in heavy urban so long as he can't shut off the supplies completely. You have a lot of engineering units there, and he can't afford to even DA every day due to disruption (even with heavy unit rotation). I'm not sure the Japanese army can capture a well defended heavy urban city in a stacking limits game unless they can get the supply down to 0. Even late game allies might struggle with that proposition.

Well, supplies aren't really a problem. at least for now. Still have 550k of them. I'm pretty curious to see what happens. For sure i will try to free the sieged city. Sooner or later the KB will have to move out of that theatre and i'll be able to move my Navy again. For the moment being, tough, those brave guys will have to stand alone

Schlemiel -> RE: India again??...why always me?!!? (7/10/2013 1:28:55 AM)

I think one of the beta changes along the way (last official release, even?) changed it so supply dump hits do supply damage based on their ratings rather than a % like it used to be. That should make it much harder to wear down that stockpile.

Been that way since at least 2010. Possibly earlier.

As you can see, forts don't mean a great deal under these circumstances.  He's wearing out his army.  The game is giving him little tidbits of optimism that are flattering only to deceive.  Bombay = Stalingrad.

Think it's been left behind when Madras fell... the unit fought bravely but the odds were against it. But we'll remember those great men[:)]

As you can see, forts don't mean a great deal under these circumstances.  He's wearing out his army.  The game is giving him little tidbits of optimism that are flattering only to deceive.  Bombay = Stalingrad.

Yes, and binding down a great deal of units far far away from the important places.

From what i can say, the only divisions not involved in India are the 5th (At timor), the 13th (bought out recently) and moving to Palembang, the 53th at Guam and the 54th moving around in the DEI....

We'll do our best to get into the best positions for a future counterattack. His strategy is clear: invest everything in India and forget about the pacific.

But we're not giving up India guys! I still have 540k supplies at Bombay and the Infantry units remain in great shape. It's still a long way to conquer it

Look how much HI he's burned in the attack already. He's basically lost a full division in destroyed squads already (probably at least 80k HI worth of stuff), and forts won't start below 1 on any attack, I'm sure. The DMS probable kills are nice for you too.

The forts will stay down cause, between Air and Naval bombings he's keeping the AF and Port damaged every day. However you're right, he's lost more than 600 squads so far during this siege and he's still far from overcoming my Odds. The fact is that the naval bombings rarely hit the Infantry troops, which have grown a lot in terms of Morale and Experience.
...and the day of the counterattack isn't that far....

Encircled -> RE: India again??...why always me?!!? (7/11/2013 11:11:15 PM)

Massive Japanese casualties, and a position that gets exposed more and more as time goes on.

Whats not to like as a AFB?

The losses in squads are big, but what of the disabled squads? How many divisions-worth have been disabled??? [X(]

Schlemiel -> RE: India again??...why always me?!!? (7/12/2013 1:24:32 AM)

At least 5 divisions worth of combat squads have been disabled since the resync.
