Epic effort but doomed to fail. If he had months to burn up your supply and recover squads, maybe. But he does not. Stalingrad indeed.

Is there a path to work your counterattack cross country in a way that avoids being spotted until it's too late and you use fast moving armor to race into Bombay over all exposed hex sides? He loses the whole IJA and Bombay won't be Stalingrad, it will be Barad Dur about five minutes after the ring took a lava bath!

These attacks at Bombay are just crazy, can't believe an experienced player is doing them at all. No chance to take an urban heavy hex against 2000+ enemy av with that force, he would need 5 or more times as many attacking units and still would shred 3/4 of them. Crazy, nothing but crazy.

njp72 -> RE: India again??...why always me?!!? (7/12/2013 7:56:54 AM)

Yep, in the end he got there too late.

I would argue you have to blockade Karachi before the Aussies roll up.

The Japanese lack the firepower and the staying power for sieges.

Heroic but doomed, very Japanese :-)

No, i don't think there's a path to arrive there unseen... but, actually, if i manage to keep my flanks safe and use those 3000 AVs now massing at Karachi to threaten his flanks i think he'll be forced to abbandon the effort... but i still need some time

Cribtop -> RE: India again??...why always me?!!? (7/12/2013 6:12:59 PM)

IMHO the next attack will show the future. Forts at 0 but it was still 1:6. If the next attack is still bad odds you should be ok. If it moves up to 1:3 or 1:2 you may have to sweat a bit. I still think your counter will force withdrawal before Bombay is seriously threatened, however.

Schlemiel -> RE: India again??...why always me?!!? (7/12/2013 6:59:21 PM)

Does he have any ports close enough to keep up that bombardment pace either? I assume he's got AKEs to resupply, but that's a lot of bombardments.

witpqs -> RE: India again??...why always me?!!? (7/12/2013 7:01:50 PM)

It looks like the key factor on his side is now: does he have enough battle worthy troops to replace the casualties? On your side the key factor is, if he does have enough troops, can your relief forces get there quickly enough?

GreyJoy -> RE: India again??...why always me?!!? (7/13/2013 9:41:08 AM)

Jun 14, 1942

Two quiet days. The 3 american Carriers managed to accomplish their operation near Scoodra, drawing the attention of the KB who sprinted North (burning fuel) from Colombo, just to find empty seas... kind of a psyco op[:D].
In the meanwhile the Wasp has arrived and now i have 3 CVs and 1 CVE operating in the pacific....
At Bombay he's resting...
yes, he has Goa, with lots of AKEs to be used as a replenishment port.... very close... but consider that my INF units do not get touched by his BBs...
And i'm not that far away from orchestrating the counterattack

The 27th US Division arrived at Cape Town, along with many american support units. The Whole RN is there with them.

In China he's stopped his Attacks...we may have statlemated him there...maybe!

GreyJoy -> RE: India again??...why always me?!!? (7/13/2013 3:21:24 PM)

June 15-16, 1942

8 Japanese CAs just bombed Bombay, causing a lot of damage, but the BBs didn't come and the regular land attack didn't happen. nstead, 28 units moved out of Bombay![X(], leaving behind 6 units for 150,000 men... i think he got way overstacked and is trying to reform his armies in the right way, under the SL rule...
However the americans, even if they aren't helping directly their british cousins in their struggle to keep India alive, aren't sitting on their hands (is this an understandable english?):
the 40th Division, along with a Marine Def unit, a base force and a marine air HQ, just landed at Tabiutea, supported by 2 SAGs, a CVTF formed around 2 CVs and several support ships. 150 mines have been already placed and the ACMs are already coming. 20 subs are screening, along with 10 PTs.

occupying the right positions.

In the North, Addak has been built up a lot, and now Attu will be transformed into a big base for subs.

At Horn Island just arrived a recon unit. Will start look around the eastern NG...

ny59giants -> RE: India again??...why always me?!!? (7/13/2013 4:20:24 PM)

Don't forget there is a difference between English and American. I speak American and had trouble understanding some English years ago when I was up in northern England.

GreyJoy -> RE: India again??...why always me?!!? (7/13/2013 4:22:40 PM)

:-) Well, yes, i'd be happy if i could speak like a 5 years old american, english or australian child :-)

Guys... June 17.... Bombay is abbandoned! The siege is left! 200,000 japanese are moving back to Poona!!!! GOD!

Tomorrow we'll be Landing at Tarawa...

Ha he really abbandoned the idea of taking Bombay? Now that the forts are down to zero!?!?!? Is it a trap?!!?!?!?

GreyJoy -> RE: India again??...why always me?!!? (7/13/2013 4:28:53 PM)

The KB is still at Bombay...so i have to fear only the LBA in the pacific for the moment... and if the KB moves back... well...i have many units waiting to get back to India and be used against him in Burma etc....

Just one uneducated thought GreyJoy ...it might be that the units at Bombay have become disrupted/disabled to the point where 2:1 cannot be achieved and there is not enough forces to continue the siege/exchange bad units for good .. and thus an abandonment and reset to a different plan rather than stalemate leading to eventual destruction when your reinforcements arrive... and eventually they will arrive ..

Cribtop -> RE: India again??...why always me?!!? (7/13/2013 6:06:15 PM)

What a fight! Did he bail out too soon? I doubt it. I bet his army is a mess. Is he still bombing to suppress forts? If so, maybe he's coming back, but I doubt it.

GreyJoy -> RE: India again??...why always me?!!? (7/13/2013 7:04:41 PM)

June 18, 1942

The allies landed at Tarawa against the 83rd naval guard unit. There was no fight to be called a fight. The 24th division, supported by tanks and combat eng destroyed it immediately.

Now the Gilberts are in danger. Good.

Now we need yo be carefull in india. He will be fighting in the continent i guess.... Time for a war of manouvre...

crsutton -> RE: India again??...why always me?!!? (7/14/2013 3:31:13 AM)

A nice fight GJ. But if he does not crack you in India, and I don't think he will, he will be in the same position as Rader. Over extended and he should lose the war fairly quickly. A failed attack such as India or Oz just burns through so much fuel and resources for Japan.

GreyJoy -> RE: India again??...why always me?!!? (7/14/2013 1:20:21 PM)

June 19, 1942

While Bombay breathes again (forts up to 2 in 4 days!) and while the main body of the combined Fleet seems to be deploying at Colombo, the allies are consolidating in CENTPAC. We're sending lots of base forces, Engineers, tanks etc to the islands around Tarawa and Tabiutea. The idea is to occupy strongly this area of the pacific, so to start threatening the overextended left flank of the Japanese penetration at Suva.
From what i can tell, the positions held by the allies at Horn Island, Noumea, Pago Pago and now tarawa-Tabiutea can really put in danger the japanese conquests in the Solomons.

In China i think he's redeploying again, probably trying for the North another time. However i do think he cannot keep all those divisions bound in India foreever without conquering China... really too little units will be available for garrisoning the pacific and the DEI.

Don't really know what he wants to do now with India. In an email he said that the campaign isn't over again... probably he may want to attack Dehli area and so to threaten Karachi's flank... but without taking Bombay and with an army of 2000 AVs ready to get out of there i don't know how that strategy would be doable. The Kb remains necessary in India...as soon as the KB moves away i don't think he has the strenght to keep the naval Embargo...and if the sealanes are open, the masses i can send to India may really be a problem for him...

Will be really interesting!

GreyJoy -> RE: India again??...why always me?!!? (7/14/2013 1:31:43 PM)

This is the strategic map, with the allied strongpoints and the most recent offensive operation (SOPAC and CENTPAC), threatening the overxtended japanese conquests in the Fijii

Kudos for your opponent for doing something big and fun on an epic scale! Now, though, he's going to have to pay the piper. He's going to have big problems everywhere.

How much did it help you to go through with the previous experience vs. Rader under your belt?

How much?
A LOT!
but the thing that really thought me the most has been my ongoing game against QBall... untill you play the other side you don't really know the exact strenght of the japanese forces, their weak spots and their true abilities. Then, a thing that really changes the game is SL. With a stacking limited map, the Whole thing changes prespective and the land war assumes a completely different flavour.
Brad, however, has taught me how to be able to do something offensive even in early 1942... the allies should never simply sir Robin... there's a lot your forces can do in 1942...the japs are strong but only in a single vector (basically where the KB is)...is you let that vector consumes its own energy, you'll find weak spots everywhere else

ny59giants -> RE: India again??...why always me?!!? (7/14/2013 2:14:21 PM)

The Gilberts are yours now and the Marshalls will fall soon afterwards. Its just a matter of time. Tabiteuea is the key with its stacking limit (40k) and base potential. A nice place to send your newly arriving SeaBees.

Yes, already sent there some of engineer units. And am building cairns, coocktown and portland roads... Soon we're gonna make Suva unholdable.

June 20, 1942

Despite what he said in his mail, i think he's abbandoning India. The KB is still at Colombo but seems that most of the combined fleet is getting back to Singa....

GreyJoy -> RE: India again??...why always me?!!? (7/14/2013 11:04:35 PM)

June 21, 1942

I do think the japanese army is really retreating from India. No more air units are present on the front (Surat, Poona or anything near our lines). We've saved Dehli moving there the 5th Indian Division, who repulsed an attack of the enemy tanks and destroyed a Whole regiment in the counterattack.

Anyway, the main AP/AKs are already moving back to PH, leaving back only the xAP and xAKs...things i can lose.

Tarawa should be secure now. 1 full division, 2 Tank Bns, 1 Artillery unit, 1 Marine CD guns unit, some combat engineers and 200 mines. Enough.

Now it's time to move units, supplies and fuel to Oz...

paullus99 -> RE: India again??...why always me?!!? (7/14/2013 11:38:51 PM)

Keep moving, hitting and moving - if you can keep him reacting to you, all the better.....
