dak41 -> dak41_vs_ketza (8/23/2013 1:55:47 AM)

Well here it goes my first AAR. I saw Ketza posted a server game recently and I jumped at it to have second bite at the Apple. Ketza was my first server game opponent and I was pretty well clueless on alot things about WITE. So this kind of a reality check for me to see how bad I still am :)

so away we go dak41 (axis) versus ketza (soviets)

Pre-Turn1 activites:
Set Air Doctrine
Changed all FB to Bombers.
Changed all NM aircraft to DM.

Axis Turn1
Recon all Airfields.Actually maxed out/used all my recon missions in an attempt to draw out some of his fighters before I bombed his airfields.
Bombed his airfields concetrating on ones with large numeber of fighters.

Combat

I decided to send the 18th army up the Baltic coast.
4th Panzer Group went in the direction of Riga and halfway around the pocket forming in Lithuania.
16th Army has blown a hole open to Kaunas and Vilinius.
9th Army mans the North side of Bialystok pocket and lines the south side of the kaunas gap.
3rd Panzer group sends one corps to like up with 4th Panzer and the rest head to Minsk to link up with 2nd Panzer Group.
4th Army mans the sothern side of the Bilaystok pocket
Brest-Litovsk has assaulted and taken on the first turn to clear the way for 2nd panzer groups armor,
17th Army pushes toward LVOV and helps man widen a panzer corredor south of Kovel.
6th Army helps in the Kovel Pocket.
1st Panzer group opts for a pocket around Kovel. Running down to the Rumanian border may make a bigger pocket, but it is a illusion, it just creates a leaky pocket that has to keep being resealed.

Turn2. In the Baltic 4th Panzer Group reaches Parnu, bypassing Riga to be mopped up by the 18th army. The pocket in Lithuania was able to link up with the outside world so the Germans had to reseal the pocket and will have to wait till turn3 to liquidate the pocket.

The Bialystok pocket is slowly squeezed in. 3rd Panzer Group crosses the Dvina on the way to Vitebsk.The smaller pocket in Belarussia is wiped out. 2nd Panzer Group crosses the Berezina near the marshes. Tutn4:AGN: 4th Panzer Group reaches the Narva Line. Finland joins the axis cause! 18th army is breathing hard to catch up with the Panzers.
AGC: Same infantry catcing up. Some fighting around Vitebsk last pockets in Belorussia cleared out.
AGS: Soviets fail back again, but leave a flank open in the south, 1st Panzer attacks!. Will see how he reacts, probably will have to rescue some of these Panzer units next turn.

dak41 -> RE: dak41_vs_ketza (8/28/2013 4:05:44 PM)

Turn 5:
AGN:Soviets retreat back to the bolt hole above Lake Ladoga. Looks Like some Soviet units are lingering too long at Vyborg, but they will probably bug out next turn. 4th Panzer Group pushs on the front door to Petrograd at Narva, infantry catching up. One SS unit motors over to the Baltic islands to clear them out. Normally I would just send a low level security division, but since things at Narva are bogged down till the Landsers arrive, I think it okay to detach this SS unit to quickly clean out the islands.
AGC: Remaining Soviet hold outs from pockets in Belorussa are marched off to POW camps. 2nd & 3rd Panzer Groups inch forward making offensive preparations whil also waiting for the infantry to catch up. Kind of correlates with the needed "Logistical Pause" forecasted by Barbarossa planners.Will see how things go in the next couple of turns.
AGS: 4th Panzer Groups outflanking move is parried. Some Panzer units had to fight there way back, to avoid capture. His lines look strong, I didn't go for the Lvov pocket on turn1 but still where is he getting all these guys? Rundstedt probably was asking the same question 1941, his AG had only the small Uman pocket before the large Kiev pocket occured in Sept.
