hewwo -> cruisers found through exploration misbehaving during combat (8/25/2013 3:53:11 PM)

So I found an awesome cruiser during exploration. I'm using it as my main defence unit in one of my two wars, but the stupid thing will jump out of the system all the time! As soon as 1 component is damaged it will run from anything, even a lowly escort. Even though an entire fleet would have a hard time scratching its shields...

How do I prevent this?

The only things I can think of is to go into empire policy, under 'War & Attacks' the bottom option is the default stance for when a ship should flee, default is 20%, change it to never. Warning though, this will affect all your ships. The other one is to edit the design and change the flee stance on there, would be the safer option just not sure you can do it as I have never attempted it as I tend to find them and retire them for the tech advance.

Yeah, but the flee stance in the design is also 20%.. I guess I could try never but that probably does more harm than good to my overall war effort :)

They jump out when their shields fall and they start taking damage, but will jump back into the fight when the auto-repairs are complete and the shield has recharged some.

no, I'm talking about my awesome cruiser having 3 components damaged, but 99% shields at the moment of cowardice!

Think that has something to do with the 'Ship Battle Caution Factor' in the empire policy, right above the default flee stance.

I've noticed ships with full shields but damaged components tend to run away. This has made pirates using gravity weapons particularly annoying. Battle caution shouldn't factor in a couple of damaged components (especially given these are usually all armour). I think the only thing to do about it is to set the ships design to never flee. As it's a unique ship it will only affect that specific one and from the sounds of it, it can take care of itself. Just make sure you don't let it bite off more than it can chew.

It also happens when the enemy has rail guns or graviton beams, as those completely bypass the shields.

No you can't realy avoid that a ship want to repair. The only way are set flee to Never. But even after fight the ship will head for repair.

But you can use this behavior for your own Station defence.
Use Gravition or Rail gun weapons they can bypass shield and damage the ship. The attacking damaged ship will stop the attack and head for repairs.

Fenrisfil -> RE: cruisers found through exploration misbehaving during combat (8/26/2013 1:39:58 PM)

Graviton beams are probably overpowered due to this effect. All it requires is one of these weapons on a ship/base and it becomes a defensive beast. 10000 shields? oh but I put a small dent int your hull so you better run off back to a friendly system. Bye!

Numdydar -> RE: cruisers found through exploration misbehaving during combat (8/26/2013 3:54:45 PM)

Well if I was a ship/fleet commander and had large shields and not much armor, I sure would run away once I was getting shot at by these weapons. Why on earth would I stick around knowing my shields were useless and I did not think i had enough armor to counter the damage I could take? Do I REALLY know I could kill you before all my armor was pentrated and my ships started dying? Or would the losses I could take exceed the value of the target? Sure seems like the game is working as designed to me [:)]

hmmm battle caution factor.. never looked at that before.

Yeah I also think that this makes graviton and rail guns really annoying. Sure, run away when its useful, but for my awesome cruiser to flee from a pathetic escort... Oh, and repairing is also an annoying habit when it has to fly halfway across the universe because somebody took out my space station. A space station not defended because my cruiser abandoned post in the first place. Bad cruiser! No cookie!

Hopefully something that can be looked at in the next patch :D

True... but you first have to research them! It's funny, every time they fix my Most Annoying Bug another one crops up.
