aztez -> aztez vs katsuragi (DaBabes mod december 7th start) (8/31/2013 5:34:29 PM)

Hello,

It is time to "dance again" after taking some weeks off from the game.

I will go head to head vs katsuragi for our rematch.

This time around we have opted to use DaBabes mod with dec 7th start.

Particulary looking forward for those AA and ASW tweaks the team has done.

This should be fun ride all over again.

I haven't decieded what format I will use in this AAR but will definately do an AAR.

Houserules:

* 1 port assault on turn 1
* PP points for untis moving out of Manchuko or China
* No industrial bombing in China
* Allied don't do industrial bombing until 1/1943
* Max. alltitude for aircraft 30 000 feet.

Stay tuned for more information....

Previously completed AAR's:

witpqs -> RE: aztez vs katsuragi (DaBabes mod december 7th start) (8/31/2013 5:46:22 PM)

If you want a greater challenge, use the -C variant of DaBabes scenario 28. The additional difference is that all cargo capacities are cut ~30%. It makes hauling supply more troublesome for both sides (yes, the Allies too!).

I think you will also find the changes in/around Burma greatly increase the challenge there for the Allies. And of course you are using stacking limits, right?

aztez -> RE: aztez vs katsuragi (DaBabes mod december 7th start) (8/31/2013 5:58:19 PM)

I did let my opponent choose the exact scenario and what I gather we will be doing the scenario 1 variant. I would have no problems going with -C variant either.

As for the stacking limits well this time around without them. I haven't played with them at all so prefered not to use them.

Hmmmm.. Burma is always an mess and I take your word for it that it will be even greater one this time around! [:D]

All in all.. this should be fun game coming up. My opponent is reliable, skilled and aggressive!

witpqs -> RE: aztez vs katsuragi (DaBabes mod december 7th start) (8/31/2013 6:12:14 PM)

The first time you do play with stacking limits you will find the need to make some major adjustments to tactics, and even strategy. BTW, it is only a pwhex files change (pwhex is a set of three files in AE) so you can change back and forth in-game. But if you do, you really have to plan ahead or you risk suddenly having many places over stacked and seeing tons of supply (as penalties) go into the bit bucket.

aztez -> RE: aztez vs katsuragi (DaBabes mod december 7th start) (8/31/2013 6:23:51 PM)

Ok. That is useful information regarding the PWHEX file. I thought it was more complicated to change.

We will move forward w/o them though. There is an good chance that I will use them in future though.

Intresting to see how rusty I'am since haven't touched the game for about 2 months now.

This show is officially on the road... [sm=00000613.gif]

December 7th-8th 1941

Japanese aircraft hit Pearl Harbour hard on both days.

Only BB California is officially sunk and rest of the battle fleet should be ok. Allthough several of them need extended navalyard time.

The good thing is that we down quite a few KB bombers. All in all Japanese are reported to have nearly 150 aircraft in total.

We keep that ratio up and empire will lose 25000 planes in the first year! [:D]

Japanese midget submarines SSX Ha-24 and SSX HA-14 are reported to have hit BB West Virginia and BB Pennsylvania.

Empire seems to have big focus on the Malaya peninsula. There are reported landings at Batu Pahat, Mersing and Malacca.

Hmmm, thus he is trying to cut the peninsula in 1/2. Whether he succeeds in this remains to be seen.

Hopefully the Singapore coastal guns will fire upon the enemy vessels when they are leaving the area. (NOTE to myself: Should included this in future games HR)

Forze Z is also assaulted near Singkawang by enemy land based aircraft and CVL Ruyjo carrier TF. The damage levels remains undisclosed.

In the Philippines there are reported landings at San Fernando, Vigan and Aparri.

He did not manage to shutdown the airfields at Pearl Harbour.

Thus paid heavy price for it. Also the 2nd day strikes were not as heavily escorted by fighters.

The luck factor heavily favoured me on that turn! [:D]

koniu -> RE: aztez vs katsuragi (DaBabes mod december 7th start) (9/19/2013 8:03:48 AM)

Congrats. In one turn You manage to kill something like ~100 elite Japanese navy bomber pilots.
Plus it not will be easy to replace those planes.

aztez -> RE: aztez vs katsuragi (DaBabes mod december 7th start) (9/19/2013 12:52:30 PM)

koniu: Thanks. I concur and hopefully those results were not FOW. Personally feel that those were pretty accurate.

JocMeister: Yeah. Two day turns sometimes bite hard and no doubt what goes around comes around.

aztez -> RE: aztez vs katsuragi (DaBabes mod december 7th start) (9/24/2013 7:15:38 AM)

December 9th - 10th 1941

The japanese blitzkrieg continues in Malay peninsula. Enemy forces capture Batu Pahat, Mersing, Malacca and Kota Bharu.

It now seems that by bypassing the Singapore fortress on turn one give the japanese easy run at Malaya.

I doubt I can fight through his troops thus meaning the peninsula is cut in half.

RN and RAF engage enemy shipping around the peninsula and manage to sunk some transports. However as the saying goes "too little, too late..".

RAF manage to shoot down some 10-20 K-48-lb Lily bombers and 10-20 G3M2 Nell / G4N1 Betty bombers.

SS Skipjack launches 4 torpedoes at CVL Zuiho near Laoag. Unfortunately all of them miss the target.

Japanese launch large airstrikes againts Clark Field. The allied pilots manage to keep the airfield open for business.

The old US destroyers and PT boats engage enemy forces but come up empty.

There are new amphibitious landings at Legaspi and San Fernando.

In further south in the Pacific japanese seize Nauru Island and Kavieng.

Overall happy how the allied fighters have fought but not happy how to Malaya campaign is ongoing since that spells trouble in the future.

No invasion behind Singapore? Totally agree but maybe you can catch these ships before leave the area.

You are doing a good job!

Good luck and have fun [:)]

aztez -> RE: aztez vs katsuragi (DaBabes mod december 7th start) (9/24/2013 10:15:09 AM)

Sardaukar: Thank you! Always good to see familiar "faces" reading the AAR.

I took couple of months off after finishing those two PBEM games.

It now time get back into action and see how rusty I'am! [:D]

Blind Sniper: Welcome. Yeah, very pleased how the airwar has started.

Buffalo fighters did fine job last turn as well!

I did actually hit those invasion fleets last turn with RN destroyers.

Unfortunately they had solid escorts but managed damage/hit quite a few of them.

That is too little too late though since I think he off loaded most of men and supplies already.

I'am thinking maybe airlifting some troops that are cut off in the peninsula to safety.

Not sure though if I have available assets to pull that off.

...and thank you. We most certainly will see this to the end and have fun journey.

Uncivil Engineer -> RE: aztez vs katsuragi (DaBabes mod december 7th start) (9/24/2013 10:46:26 AM)

His Kate production for the first 3 months of the war will be consumed making up the PH losses. He might as well park some of the CV's rather than waste fuel driving around with under strength units. That may give you some early opportunities.

If you could, try to highlight in your AAR where 2 day turns affects the battles. Like the second day strike at PH. This should be very interesting to watch!

Maybe you can use small ships and transfer them to Sumatra (or Ceylon), single ship TFs squad after squad.

aztez -> RE: aztez vs katsuragi (DaBabes mod december 7th start) (9/25/2013 5:04:43 PM)

Uncivil Engineer: Lets hope those losses very not too heavily FOW.

The patrol planes spotted KB near Midway last turn and hard to say how accurate the amount of planes available is in the picture.

Blind Sniper: Not a bad idea at all but first we need to deal with those IJN destroyers patrolling the Malacca strait.

The game pics from last turn...

Again we managed to shoot down quite a few bombers assaulting Luzon and Malaya. Whether actual losses are that high is uncertain.

However good reminder on how things play out with 2 day turns.

You cannot recall missions until the turn is run. No doubt some of those bombers would have been rested.

Oh.. and we have first bunch of IJN ships in the sunk list. It could have been better and it could have been worse.

KB is spotted cruising near Midway atoll. No sign off any invasion TF's but those might be coming soon...

aztez -> RE: aztez vs katsuragi (DaBabes mod december 7th start) (9/29/2013 10:22:30 AM)

December 11th - 12th 1941

Japanese forces land at Wake Island. Maizuru 2nd SNLF swiftly overruns the US troops defending the atoll.

SS I-157 launches 6 torpedoes againts BB Prince of Wales near Oosthaven. Luckily all of the torpedoes miss the target.

In Luzon Clark Field receives another large scale airstrike. The US pilots keep the airfield open for business.

RAF bombers hit few enemy transports near Kota Bharu and Tandjoengpinang. None of those transports are confirmed sunk.

The dutch SS KXII becomes the first allied submarine to hit enemy ships. The crew sinks xAKL Tatibana Maru and enemy vessel is confirmed sunk.

The following bases were seized by the enemy last turn: Wake Island, Tuguegarao, Vigan, San Fernando, Kweiteh and Cabanatuan.

Overall not so action packed turn. The allied signit indicates that japanese are moving more troops into Malaya to conduct that blitzkrieg offensive.

Thus far a bit suprised to see so little action at Luzon.

Japanese carriers are parked north of Wake Island. Intresting to see whether he will move againts Midway as well...

December 13th - 14th 1941

Royal Navy destroyer TF engages enemy near Mersing.

Allied ships manage to damage / sunk several enemy transport ships. Suprisingly no escorts with these ships are spotted.

RAF Vilderbeast bombers land 500kg bomb on CVE Taiyo near Kuantan. No confirmation how much damage was actually dealt.

Touche that the other bombers failed to hit any carrier targets.

1st Tank Regiment launches first ground offensive at Alor Star but the inial assault is repulsed ny 15th Indian Brigade.

IJA bombers launch yet another large airstrike againts Clark Field. This time around allied fighters are overwhelmed.

Japanese land troops at Batangas near Manila. This was definately an suprise move by my opponent.

The first ground assault is made againts Hong Kong. The base wohn't hold for long.

Allied recon aircraft lost contact with KB. The force is most likely heading towards home islands or Truk.

Japanese submarines sunk couple of transports and tankers fleeing towards Oz.

Bases captured by Japanese: Jolo and Miri.

Japanese ongoing invasion: Wewak, Aitape, Singkawang and Batangas.
