aztez -> RE: aztez vs katsuragi (DaBabes mod december 7th start) (1/3/2014 10:06:15 AM)

July 11th - 26th 1942

The "Alamo" at Batavia is finally over. The last remaining defenders surrendered on 23rd of July. These troops really put up an good fight!

In China an full scale offensive seems to be on it's way. Several ground units spotted around central China region.

Near Changhsa IJA 116th/A Division gets routed and pushed back.

At Hengyang IJA 58th Infantry Regiment crosses the river and troops gets butchered.

Allied LBA bombers are moved into region to provide firepower againts these assaults. No doubt that the China affiar will pick up even more pace...

The submarine SS 021 lauches 6 torpedoes towards BB Nagato (pic). Touche that only 1 are reported to hit the target. This encounter happened near Toboali.

aztez -> RE: aztez vs katsuragi (DaBabes mod december 7th start) (1/5/2014 5:23:53 AM)

July 27th - August 13th 1942

Japanese continue to mop up minor bases around DEI, Philippines and Southern Pacific.

Allied submarines have been busy firing torpedoes with minimal amount of hits reported. The highlight definately being CL Kuma being hit near Torishima.

In China the stalemate continues around Hengyang. Both sides flying in bomber raids but no ground assaults being reported.

Around the map allied reinforcements pour in and new fresh troops are ready for action.

Bases captured by Japan: Waingapoe, Larantoeka and Sampit

aztez -> RE: aztez vs katsuragi (DaBabes mod december 7th start) (1/7/2014 7:50:26 AM)

August 14th - 23rd 1942

Japanese submarines hit a couple of allied tankers near San Francisco. Thus I need to improve the ASW efforts there.

Allied submarines continue their torpedo barrage campaign with pretty no hits reported.

Btw, what is the minium port size etc required to have ability to rearm tordoes for subs?

Chinese troops launch counter offensives near Ichang.

The operation is succesfull. The IJA 34th Division & 13th RGC Temp Division are routed and forced to retreat.

Elsewhere things remain somewhat "peaceful"...

Bases captured by Japan: None

aztez -> RE: aztez vs katsuragi (DaBabes mod december 7th start) (1/12/2014 4:17:49 PM)

August 24th - September 13th 1942

Intresting days to say at least. I can now confirm that the main offensive in central china seems to be coming through Hengyang sector.

This armoured advance is supported by large scale LBA bomber groupings. After considering my options I have decieded to move out from Hengyang in good order. There is no sense to fight in his terms.

Well.. you would think this is all the big news. Well.. guess again since nothing less than Hawaji is under assault.

In early september I spotted some transports and carriers heading east. These ships arrived into Johnston Island and managed to seize the base.

Now.. next turn still showed movement towards east and well it seems japanese forces are trying to invade Hawaji. Yes.. there are landings reported near Kona.

I usually post some old WW2 pics but this time around it is more proper to take an screenshot from the game itself.

Here are some glimpses from After action Report from 11th - 12th Sep 1942...

I can confirm that the following IJN carriers are conducting operations: Hosho, Soryu, Akagi, Kaga, Shokaku, Zuikaku, Ryujo, Junyo, Hiyo, Shoho, Zuiho and Hiryu.

Add the whole Japanese battleship fleet and there you have.

What will happen here... only safe bet seems a lot sunken ships and dead sailors. Whether the allied have the power to defeat IJN... I would say 50/50 odds here.

Battle of Hawaji / September 13th - 14th 1942

What a carnage in many ways. Very suprised to see this offensive in the first place but have to admit a bold move that could have succeeded!

Thus hats off to the brave emperor of Tokyo.

All hell broke loose on early part of september 13th.... best way to describe the events is a copy of AAR report.

Very interesting gambit by him. I would have thought that it was maybe too late to try an attack on Pearl by this date.

stuman: Welcome aboard. Yes, that was an huge gamble and things did not pay out for him.

I doubt he could have conquered the whole island chain if things had gone smoother. Than again who knows...

This was the first time anyone has attempted to assault Hawaji in my PBEM games.

That is how the turn played out. This definately was an massacre.

I have not done the turn yet but all of the allied carriers are at least semi-operational.

My opponent states that his losses have been severe.. "I have lost every carrier but 1 in the Japanese fleet".

Whether that is absolute truth well maybe. I have spotted some ships fleeing south and recon indicates at least couple of carriers there.

I might give them a chase next turn... not decieded on that yet. The sunken ships list shows just 2 carriers and 1 Battleship sunk but we all know how accurate that list can be...

Thanks! I have to say that it was biggest naval battles I have witnessed in any of my PHEM games.

This time around it was a "wet dream" but no going to say that it is impossible to isolate Hawaji.

The bad thing for him was that I had bulk of my naval assets at Pearl Harbour plus a lot of LBA aircraft.

If these were operating somewhere else this time around than things could have been very diffrent... [:)]

JocMeister -> RE: aztez vs katsuragi (DaBabes mod december 7th start) (1/13/2014 6:13:40 AM)

How are you going to react to this victory? This gives you complete CV superiority for the rest of the game. CENTPAC route towards Luzon?

Good question and to be honest I haven't locked down what approach is the "way to go".

I have been following your campaign and that is not bad approach you got ongoing there. Thus the CenPac route is very much possibility.

I do actually have Tarawa and Tabiteua "secured". My opponent did not invade them and have been busy building those bases up. Both are atolls thus now invading them means massive blood bath. This favours the CenPac route for sure.

Than again my opponent has not made substantial gains in southern pacific either so that route is very much open as well. Either towards DEI and Luzon. I still hold Port Moresby but have not bothered to build it up.

We have an HR that no strategic bombings until 1943 and once that is unlocked things might look a bit diffrent.

Decisions.. decisions.. decisions. One thing for sure though. I'am not going to throw away naval / ground assets for nothing.

Some of the ships needs upgrades and repairs after this battle is over.

I definately now hold the initiave so we will start pushing the japanese back very soon.

JocMeister -> RE: aztez vs katsuragi (DaBabes mod december 7th start) (1/13/2014 7:30:07 AM)

Its never a bad thing to have many options available. [:)]

Perhaps you could go both ways? Doing a CENTPAC route doesnīt require big LCUs with the atolls and stacking limits. You could then send most of the LCUs down to SOPAC and start advancing there?

I donīt know if you have noticed but ship upgrades are golden in DBB. Look at the increase in AAA with some upgrades. Some of the old BBs require hundreds of days to upgrade but go from something like 900 AAA to 2500! [:)]

Hah.. no.. definately not a bad thing! [:)] ...I'am tempted to secucre the Okinawa "island chain" as you have done in order to get full LBA force in action.

Yeah. That is definately an option. Also one problem with the CenPac advance is that I still don't have APA's, LST,AKA ships available. The first ones arrive in the spring of 1943 and we are not even close to that timeline.

As said I have Tarawa and Tabiteua secured and supplied. I think this is an mistake to let the allies have these bases for "free". I was suprised for sure and moved the troops in there once this became obvious. Both have nice airfields to support advances.

The southern route seems the safest.. and definately will do some operations there. Whether this is the main axis for the advance remains to be seen.

I was not expecting this battle of Hawaji to happen since thought he was baiting me. If that were the case I would not have moved in for the kill.

The upgrades are massive. I'am definately paying attention to them and have many ships AA values tripled from the start numbers. I don't know whether IJN gets the sama "boost" but these make big diffrence for the allied side as you said.

aztez -> RE: aztez vs katsuragi (DaBabes mod december 7th start) (1/13/2014 3:02:12 PM)

Here is the situation pic after 4 days of battles around Hawaji.

A lot ofIJN ships scattered in southern sectors. I know my opponent stated that he has 1 operational carrier left but the recon planes indicate 4-5 "carrier" ships floating around.

Quite a few battleships are also "spotted" so who knows what the actual carnarge is but these sightings might have something to do with poor quality recon.

Only thing safe to say is that damage levels are high among IJN ships since they are not organized at all in formations.

Lets see if we can gather better intel once the next turn arrives...

aztez -> RE: aztez vs katsuragi (DaBabes mod december 7th start) (1/15/2014 8:23:20 AM)

I haven't recieved a turn from Chris thus nothing to update until that happens.

We shall see whether this game continues but can't complain if he needs couple of days to sort things out.

If this is the end than I think I'am done with AE for now. It just takes too much time and effort to reach even this stage of war.

As said it is all about journey and one cannot be bothered to start from page 1...

Oh well.. I will check with my opponent in a day or two if no turns are forthcoming.

JocMeister -> RE: aztez vs katsuragi (DaBabes mod december 7th start) (1/15/2014 9:21:07 AM)

Fully understandable if his moral is drained after something like that. But I do hope the game continues.

True! Than again it was his gamble and operation that caused the drain.

Thus you must be prepared for the possible results of such offensives... good or bad. That is the price you must be willing to do.

Well.. we shall see and hopefully we continue. There plenty of battles to be fought,.

Sardaukar -> RE: aztez vs katsuragi (DaBabes mod december 7th start) (1/15/2014 11:36:01 AM)

It was quite a long shot to try to invade Hawaii! Even in 1941 that'd been quite a task. Late 1942...that's what happens.

But, it was certainly lively when it was going on! [:D]

aztez -> RE: aztez vs katsuragi (DaBabes mod december 7th start) (1/15/2014 6:51:08 PM)

Sardaukar: Yeah! I'am definately shell shocked myself! "Lively" is definately good word to describe the carnage! [:D]

Oh.. Israel??? What on earth are doing there? Next Bahamas?

JocMeister: I just got an email from Chris stating that we are definately back on business with this one. He is just busy with work and I think good think to think things through.

Another reminder that you must respect your opponents and have been very lucky with most of the people I have been playing PBEM games.

...and that is how the dust settled. At least Battleship Haruna seems to sailing near Palmyra currently.

I'am very curious on what kind carrier fleet you guys think he has available after this massacre???

It would seems that bulk of those ships might actually be sunk! Chris said that he has 1 operational carrier left but whether that is propaganda remains to be seen.

DOUBLE POST

aztez -> RE: aztez vs katsuragi (DaBabes mod december 7th start) (1/17/2014 5:17:53 PM)

Battle of Hawaji / September 19th - 20th 1942

The enemy ships are definately retreating and we are still hunting them down.

There are still only 2 carriers shown as sunk near Hawaji but it has to be a lot worse than that for the IJN.

The good news in overall terms that my opponent has still a lot banzai in him! Have to respect that fully!

We actually talked about this Hawaji campaign and he had his sights set on this for months...

* He had never assaulted the Hawajian island chain
* He left the Southern Pacific route less aggressive so that I would move forces there.
* He thought I had the carrier fleet elsewhere and would not have committed them here anyways.
* IJN Battleships should have take the burden out of allied LBA's
* A lot of his troops where prepping for Port Moresby and other regions in the south.

...all things considered that is an good plan. Luckily for me the allied signit sucked big time and I was not even aware of this decoy.

Bulk of my fleet where are refitting in Pearl Harbour and so on... that is how things go in this game. Sometimes you win big and sometimes you lose big.

Now for the last two days of action.. here is the AFTER ACTION SUMMARY for last turn...

...and that is how things ended. I will pursue enemy ships at least next two days maybe even more.

The IJA troops at Hilo (on the pic) will be wiped out starting next turn.

In China I'am reorganizing troops in the central plains thus giving japanese a couple of bases for free. Those were not worth fighting with odds they would have given me.

Yeah! A good opponent is weight worth in gold as you have also noticed in your PBEM games.

My opponent promised to make me bleed as much as possible and have no doubts he will do his utmost to achieve that goal! [:D]

I will hunt ships with carriers a turn or two than need to repair and refit some of those ships.

JocMeister -> RE: aztez vs katsuragi (DaBabes mod december 7th start) (1/17/2014 6:23:37 PM)

Him losing his CVs might actually make it harder for you! He is going to start digging like crazy all over the map now! [:)]

Yup! ...and I'am nowhere ready yet either nor have the type of ships I need for massive offensives.

No need to rush things too much though... first allied side needs more/better aircraft and landing ships... and yes I do not want to screw up big time in China.

aztez -> RE: aztez vs katsuragi (DaBabes mod december 7th start) (1/17/2014 7:02:47 PM)

A couple of pictures from the game.. first the intel screen 21st September 1942 and second screen showing IJN ships "sunk"...
