GJK -> RE: 1962 Waterloo & Vassal Game Engine (9/11/2013 3:14:20 AM)

Welcome to VASSAL! I've been using VASSAL for several years now and have put together a number of modules. VASSAL brought me back to board wargaming and that is now my preferred way to wargame; either at a table face to face or via VASSAL in either live or pbem mode. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't Matrix Games have a vested interest in VASSAL? ISTR that they had acquired the rights to the engine or sumsuch. Ah yes, an old article from 2005: http://www.gamasutra.com/view/news/96999/Matrix_Games_Acquires_Vassal_BoardGame_Engine.php AFAIK, nothing has yet to really happen with that. VASSAL seems to still be community driven. Perhaps Mr. Rutkins could shed some light on what some future plans for VASSAL vis-a-vis Matrix Games are? Oh, and by the way, VASSAL v4 is in the works. As those that have followed VASSAL for some time may know, the game engine is slowly beginning to incorporate some levels of rules enforcement. Not with an AI mind you, but simple things like not being able to draw pieces or cards or to play them unless certain conditions (as defined by the actual boardgame) exist. Stuff like that. However, I could see in the future full or at least partial rules enforcement on some advanced modules; perhaps as early as with the next generation of the VASSAL engine.
