Against as is usually reported, the Essex-class carriers converted in LPH, USS Boxer LPH-4, USS Valley Forge LPH-8 and USS Princeton LPH-5, get only a máximum speed of 25 knots (not 33 knots), as four of the eight boilers were removed, and the installed power fall from 150000 shp to 75000 shp, as stated in Norman Friedman's "US Aircraft Carriers, an Illustrated Design History", USNI 1983, page 369, or here:
http://www.navsource.org/archives/10/11/1104.htm
(the navysource page reports 33 knots speed, BUT cites only 75000 shp, and that motivated me to research about the issue).

I posted these in another thread, but another player's request for WWII scenarios made me think I should repost them here...

Japanese aircraft carrier Hōshō
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japanese_aircraft_carrier_H%C5%8Dsh%C5%8D

Ise-class battleship
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ise-class_battleship

Shimushu-class escort ship

Ukuru-class escort ship

Type C escort ship
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/C_Type_class_escort_ship

Type D escort ship <-- apparently, some of these were in commission as late as 1987
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Type_D_escort_ship

All of these survived World War II and could have appeared in early Cold War scenarios, or "The War Goes On: 1946" alternate history scenarios, or even just to give Command a limited ability to recreate actual World War II scenarios (plenty of American and British ships from the era are already in the database...one could have a duel between an American sub and some Japanese escorts in coastal waters in 1945, etc.)

Anyway, it's just a thought...

A few more for the "limited WWII/Alternate 1946" scenario possibilities (all Japanese classes)...

Ha-201-class submarine
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ha-201_class_submarine
http://www.combinedfleet.com/type_sts.htm
10 units built, but none deployed before Japanese surrender.

I-201-class submarine
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/I-201_class_submarine

Type L4 (Ro-60-class)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japanese_Type_L_submarine
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HMS_L52
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_L_class_submarine
Nine built and about half actually survived the war

Type B1 submarine
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Type_B1_submarine
20 built and only one survived the war

Thanks, .Sirius. No rush on the platforms. I know doing a complete WWII database is not feasible, so I'm trying to track down a few platforms that would make sense in terms of their potential for building scenarios. The CWDB already has quite a few Allied platforms, so it is just a matter of adding a few additional German and Japanese ones that would make sense. For example, the CWDB already has a Germany VII sub, so some WWII Atlantic missions could be done right now.

Speaking of that, another one that could be added would be the Type XXI u-boat...

Type XXI submarine

http://www.uboat.net/types/xxi.htm

...anyway, it's just a thought. There's no rush. Thanks for all your work on the CWDB.

Another request (I think I mentioned this in another thread but I thought I should re-post it here)...

Civilians – Generic
This is simply a platoon-sized group of unarmed people. It can move, it can be damaged or destroyed, but it only has eyeballs as sensors and it has no weapons (unless it is armed using the scenario editor). Basically, this lets the scenario designer add innocent bystanders, refugees, unwilling human shields, hostages, non-violent protesters, etc.

schroedi -> RE: US Battleship Conversion Projects 1942-1965 an illustrated technical reference (1/15/2014 5:09:05 PM)

two things.
SS-N-12 Sandbox (P500) have a land attack submode. They are not the most accurate missles for land targets but with the help of their INS navigation they are capable to do that.

In game many US cruisers have a Helipad capable of 24 large aircrafts.
Before several of them were modernized they usually had some seaplanes (for example four seaplanes on the Baltimore calss cruisers). After modernization with guided missles they lost their hangars due to the missle magazines and only have a pad for one helicopter.
There are several US cruisers with that 24 aircraft mistake heavy and even light cruisers.

trump -> RE: US Battleship Conversion Projects 1942-1965 an illustrated technical reference (1/22/2014 2:37:42 PM)

Completed some detail investigation for EM Skory Class (#1266), EM Skory Mod Class (#1267), EM Skory Mod [Pr.31 Besshumny](#1881).
This class was constructed as 70 ships, so it is an important to have in right sensor-weapons sets.
There are some corrections in database need. All corrections there as for deltas in comparision for existing database.
Ok, lets start.
1. EM Skory Class (#1266) – the early version before any upgrades.
a) Better change the name of the class to something like “EM Pr.30 bis”.
b) Displacement standard – 2300 instead of 2600, full – 3066 instead of 3260. Crew – 286 instead of 288.
c) Sensors:
B1) Actually navigation radar was “Rym-1” instead of “Don 2” – but I cant see it in database, so it can be OK. May be replace by “Don Key” (Volga) in game?
B2) Remove “2 x Watch Dog A” RWR – some RWR assets was in later modification – Pr.31 (#1881) – will described later.
B3) Change “Top Bow [Zalp-M2]” to “Half Bow [Zalp]” radar.
B4) Change “Stag Ear [Tamir-11/11M]” to “Stag Hoof [Tamir-5N/NS]” sonar.
B5) Actually instead of GUIS-2 was GUIS-1M, but it can be Ok, if impossible to change.
d) Weapons:
C1) Change 7x37mm/63 Twin DP to 4x37mm/63 Twin DP.
Note: There is a mess. Actually, it was 2 variants in serie: the standart (say, var A) with 4x2 37mm gun V-11, and 10 ships with 7x1 37 gun 70K (say, var B). Some of these was soon replaced by V-11 also (in the 1-2 year). May be it will be better to have both variants, with 4 “V-11” and 7 “70K” in the game. If it impossible, I think var A is more preferable. For both variants 8000 rounds total.
C2) Rounds: 130mm – 600; 85mm-600; 37mm-8000.
С3) Adjust depth charge for depth charge racks: it was 20 small depth charges (БМ-1 – (Bomb Small-1)) [25 kg explosive, 41 kg total, 252 mm caliber]
C4) Add 2 depth charge projectors (БМБ-1)with 8 big depth charges (ББ-1 – (Bomb Big-1)) 135 kg explosive, 165 kg total, 430 mm caliber]
C5) Add 5x1 - 12,7mm MG DSHK – by 2 for each side, 1 forward. Actually in the some of ships it was removed soon.
2. EM Skory Mod Class (#1267) – the later version after upgrade (1960-1970).
a) Better change the name of the class to something like “EM Pr.30 BA”. It is more natural for USSR standarts and looks more professional.
b) Sensors:
C1) Remove “2 x Watch Dog A” RWR – some RWR assets was in modification – Pr.31 (#1881) – will described later.
C2) Actually sonar was changed to GS-572 "Gerkules" but I cant find it in database. Instead there is a sonar GS-572 "Pegas", I think there is a mess.
C3) Add an observation radar “Slim Net (Fut-N)”
c) Weapons:
D1) Add a second torpedo mount, like in (#1266). Second torpedo mount was removed only in Pr.31(#1881)
D2) Remove 5x1 57/50 mount
D3) Add a 1x4 ZIF-75 Quad mount. ATTENTION: I found another error in database – ZIF-71 is not a Quad, but single gun!!
D4) Some of the ships got 2-3 25mm/60 2M-3M Twin mounts. I think 2 can be added for game.

3. EM Skory Mod [Pr.31 Besshumny] ](#1881). – ESM patrol upgrade .
a. Better change the name of the class to something like “EM Pr.31”.
b. Reduce speed from 35 to 32 knots
c. Sensors:
B1. Change sonar “Tamir-5” by “Gerkules”.
d.Weapons:
D1. ATTENTION: Error in database – ZIF-71 is not a Quad, but single gun!! So please adjust it.
D2. Change 533mm Triple TT to 533mm Quint TT with SET-53 torpedoes

The Tu-91 Boot AEW doesn't actually have an AEW radar-just the same surface search one as its ASW and strike cousins.

I noticed this in a scenario I'm making involving a hypothetical Soviet carrier force. Since this aircraft never existed (and I have found no project for an AEW one) there is no "accuracy" involved here of course, so they are free to do what they want, but I would suggest adding at least an aie-search radar.

But on the subject of the Tu-91:

It was designed to carry 3 RAT-52s Currently the loadouts only allow for 1, cutting its attack capability by 66%.

If you are to look at 0:46 of this video you will see the Tu-91 prototype flying with 3 RAT-52s and performing an attack with them.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BgrSFxCcSLc

It should also be able to carry mines. (1 in the "Lira" E class and 3 "AMP-500" type.)
