Mgellis-Just for my info, are you having any trouble with downloading either the scenario files located at:
https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B205vpZC1pGmMUZTVGJzeXl6bFE/edit?pli=1

or the description files located at:
https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B205vpZC1pGmdTVnTEY4RU1va2s/edit?pli=1

If you can download those without any problems, it may indicate that the issue is the size of the download. Possibly you are timing out, or some other issue.

One other idea: sometimes, security software is pretty quiet about blocking downloads. Because the image file is going to have a low reputation score, it might be blocked by your security software. Are you getting any messages at the bottom of your browser screen suggesting this might be the case?

I'm really beginning to hate Google Docs. :) I tried downloading the archive with Firefox. It tells me the download failed. I tried downloading the archive with a dedicated file download manager (Free Download Manager). It does not recognize the link as a .zip file. I tried another dedicated file downloader (Flashget). Zippo. I tried downloading the archive with a Firefox add-on designed to read Google Docs...INCLUDING .zip archives. The add-on tells me it cannot read that file. Look, I know I'm not the most brilliant person when it comes to computers, but it's one freakin' .zip file. It should not be this hard to download. There has got to be a better way.

Mgellis -> RE: Updated DB image packs are available! (2/1/2014 2:04:15 PM)

Yes, I'm pretty sure it is the size issue. I don't have problems downloading the smaller files. I think the "critical mass" is somewhere around 400 megabytes, at least with Google Docs.

Mgellis -> RE: Updated DB image packs are available! (2/1/2014 2:17:23 PM)

Would there be any possibility of just posting the archive as one large file AND as a set of smaller files (e.g., four or five of about 200 megabytes each)? Since the whole thing is just an archive of image files, it would not be hard to combine them once you download them all. Anyway, it's just a thought.

SSN754planker -> RE: Updated DB image packs are available! (2/1/2014 4:29:36 PM)

I have no issue with downloading from there.

Have you tried this...

Click this link then go to the top right, click File>Download.

Works everytime for me.

guanotwozero -> RE: Updated DB image packs are available! (2/1/2014 5:15:51 PM)

I've had good results using jdownloader to grab google doc files, including resuming if dropped.

I'm trying it now. (Actually, I'm not sure how I got it to start working...I THINK it was by getting the download dialogue in Firefox and instead of using one of the Save File options, I "opened" the .zip file with Jdownloader.) We'll see what happens...

I still think the easiest solution would be to just have a series of shorter files--e.g., about 200 megabytes each--and then combine them when you download them all. It certainly would have been easier for me. :)

Mgellis -> RE: Updated DB image packs are available! (2/1/2014 9:14:33 PM)

Jdownloader finally worked. Many cool pictures. Thanks to the people maintaining the archive and also to everyone else who helped me out when I was trying to download it.

Yes, that was the date that the pack was put together. The delay on gettting it uploaded is on us [:)]

ExNusquam -> RE: Updated DB image & description packs are available! (6/4/2014 12:30:43 AM)

I can't seem to get the download to start from the current host. Any chance of a mirror?

mercho -> RE: Updated DB image & description packs are available! (6/4/2014 1:05:36 AM)

Had the same problem with firefox. But using google chrome the download started without problems.

Yes, can we please get some link that will work with IE?

apoll -> RE: Updated DB image & description packs are available! (6/4/2014 9:05:59 AM)

Agreed. I can't download the images either; using Firefox.

Dimitris -> RE: Updated DB image & description packs are available! (6/4/2014 9:37:05 AM)

Added a second mirror link on the DL page.

pzjagd1 -> RE: Updated DB image & description packs are available! (6/5/2014 7:31:28 PM)

I tried the first Mirror site and the DL kept hanging. Tried the second and DLed the file in about 6 minutes.

I'm using Windows 8.1 and IE 11.

Jdegani -> RE: Updated DB image & description packs are available! (6/21/2014 3:25:20 PM)

Is it possible to get the files as a regular ZIP file rather than 7z? I'm just trying to minimize the amount of extra software on my machine, but if there's a reason that 7z is preferable I can download the extraction software.

Awesome work, thanks for all your hard work!

Sardaukar -> RE: Updated DB image & description packs are available! (6/21/2014 3:29:44 PM)

Reason for using 7z is massively better compression rate, e.g. 1.1 Gb -> 45 Mb. Makes downloading and hosting less of a chore.

Thanks. I've had a lot of help from the community with this project.

Sardaukar -> RE: Updated DB image & description packs are available! (6/21/2014 4:44:22 PM)

Would it be beneficial to have future updates as separate smaller downloads? It can be bit of chore to download whole packages after each image package update. [8D]

Gunner98 -> RE: Updated DB image & description packs are available! (8/7/2014 10:12:55 PM)

I'm a bit of a numpty when it comes to some of this but I have been able to download directly into a windows folder before and then simply extract from there. When I downloaded the latest image pack, successfully (took a couple hours but it is big) - now Firefox or Windows 8 dumps the file into a program called 'Metro Commander' which I have never seen before - and it won't let me do anything unless I buy the bloody program that I never wanted and don't think I need. Any ideas?

Thanks

B

I just tried downloading from Mirror #1, and didn't get the same result as you did. Is it possible you accidentally clicked on an adware site?

Quite possible [:(] Grrrr

KewDok -> RE: Updated DB image & description packs are available! (8/11/2014 8:13:41 AM)

Hi, buddy!
Metro Commander seems to be some kind of file explorer replacement. Try going to the normal desktop, instead of opening the files from the browser. Then you press WIN+E. If this opens the regular explorer, instead of Metro, you can navigate to your "Downloads" folder. The files you downloaded should be there. If this does not work, I recommend you google for tutorials on how to revert to default file explorer and get rid of Metro.

Good luck!

Gunner98 -> RE: Updated DB image & description packs are available! (8/12/2014 2:13:13 AM)

Thanks KriB

My solution was to download it on a Win 7 machine - stamp out the add-ware with Norton and share it. I do dispise Windows 8!

Hi Folks,

First off - thanks to the guys donating their time to make the image packs - what a vast improvement...

I think I have a problem with the "Description Pack" though... I installed it to the directory it mentions - under DB - and the files overwrote the existing placeholder directories - the files all seem to be there - but - I don't see any "Descriptions" listed in the DB unit display... Has anyone else had this issue or do I misunderstand something - this should put brief little blurbs about the platform being viewed - on the units display page - right ?

Regards,
Scott

CV60 -> RE: Updated DB image & description packs are available! (8/13/2014 12:38:51 AM)

That is probably because that is one of the less developed parts of the downloads, ie, there aren't many written yet. I think they are over 5000systems in the DB3000 database, but considerably fewer text files written. (I can always use help writing these, hint, hint) Once I get done with some of the BASPM work, I'll get back to this project. (Did I mention that I'm always looking for help?)
Here's what you can do to make sure you've loaded it correctly: Look up the KIROV battlecruiser in the database. You should see the image below. If you don't, the description files didn't get installed. Make sure they in the Description/DB3000 or Description/CWDB folder.
