Turn: May/Jun 1942 Impulse: 3 The Germans launch two attacks - one in the north and one in the south. Rommel and von Bock provide HQ support to each respectively, while neither side can affect the outcome with aircraft. In the Ukraine the Germans choose Blitzkrieg and.... ....roll a 10 which shatters the defenders, but at a cost of one unit and half disorganised... Its just not anywhere near good enough... The Germans choose Blitz once more and ...... ..... its a 6. One loss for the defender and the Axis lose an armour unit + suffer all remaining disorganised. Turn: May/Jun 1942 Impulse: 4 The Royal Navy try and start a fight in the Italian Coast region once more. Admiral Somerville orders HMS Hawkins to sail to the area to bolster the search for the Italian Fleet. Not surprisingly the Italians do not want to initiate combat - they want to survive this impulse and get back to La Spezia. Unfortunately for the CW, neither side finds the other.... Four Lancaster/Hampden units fly to Bavaria to attack the capital, Munich and the home of the luxury car makers - Stuttgart. A total of two production points are lost. Turn: May/Jun 1942 Impulse: 5 The Italian fleet (less one disorganised cruiser) makes good its escape back to La Spezia. In the Soviet Union, there is no flying allowed in the northern temperate zone and so no ground strike possible. The Germans decide to target the hex northeast of Minsk as this already has a disorganised unit within. A Stuka is brought in to try and get 2:1 odds. The Soviets do not contest this. Looks like I mis-calculated again - the Soviets have choice of combat table (turns out the anti-tank unit counts as Armour... Oh well. The Soviet chooses the Assault table. They will be sorry when the Germans throw a ...er ...really high score... ...but they didn't, it was a 7 and the German must lose 3 units.. I think the fat lady is warming up for the Axis. Some bad luck and very heavy losses in China and France with no better success in Russia seem to have doomed them to a point. It has been very enjoyable to follow the AAR. :)

Turn: May/Jun 1942 Impulse: 7 The Royal Navy sails Force H from Gibraltar in another attempt to find the elusive Italian convoy. The Italians - needless to say - do not try and intercept the moving British Fleet. When it comes to the search rolls, the RM find the RN but not the other way around. Furthermore, the RM has sufficient surprise points to avoid combat... Cunningham and Somerville are getting mighty frustrated.....

The Luftwaffe are too strong to allow ground strikes, but Manstein is already disorganised anyway and besides, its important not to get too cocky and end up giving the Germans an opportunity they can exploit. EDIT: Well the attack Manstein needs to be cancelled... Supply is an issue for the armoured column that was to have moved into Minsk, while one cavalry unit in the hex northwest is already disorganised. Instead, the Soviets decide to apply pressure in the south, and once again its the hapless Romanians that the trouble descends upon... The Romanian is destroyed for the loss of one Soviet and all units disorganised. Koniev is quite happy with that thank-you very much. Turn: Jul/Aug 1942 Impulse: 1 First things first. The Germans need to extinguish the bridgehead over the Dneister gained by the 50th Infantry Army. A Stuka and a Ju-88 are ordered to the two hexes north of Odessa in order to try and stop any Soviet counter. The Soviet air force counter with their two fighters in Odessa flying in defence of the units northwest of the city. The Germans bring in their only two fighters in the region in response. The Germans have a very slight advantage... There is no action intended in the north - the Germans have simply run out of units....
