Last turn I landed troops in southern China in order to build up for an attack against the Nationalists

Re: forgetting to reorganize CW. That is one difference on the computer. In the past, when I forgot something, I would rectify the mistake. For example, the Germans declared on Denmark last night, and I forgot to move them. Unless I wanted to reload, I could not fix the mistake. This is not a bad thing, however.

But if I don't peek around the tree, I'll never see her... Which means I probably AM the dumbest person in the world... which explains why I'm standing in a batch of poison oak.” -- Charlie Brown

In the Low Countries I attack Rotterdam and the Belgian cavalry southwest of Liege.

While in China I go for an attack on the Communist Chinese Army in Tungkwan. Both Mao and Umezu provide defensive/offensive HQ support. The Chinese choose the assault table to maximise casualties on the Japanese.

The roll was a hugely disappointing 4. The Chinese Army was untouched while all attackers were disorganised. There will be a lot of Hari Kiri going down tonight...

My favourite was when Charlie was plucking up the courage to speak to a girl. He kept saying over and over "don't blow it Charlie, don't blow it Charlie"... the final picture in the cartoon has Charlie standing facing the girl and the caption reads "Hi, I'm Brownie Charles"... bless [:(]

warspite1 -> RE: Bob Flemin's MWIF AARse (11/13/2013 8:17:16 PM)

The Germans are altogether a more slick war machine. The Belgian cavalry meets its Waterloo, while in Holland, Rotterdam is easily taken. There are the usual rolls to see who gets the naval units:

6 Convoy Counters escape
1 is captured by the Germans
HMNLS Java escapes
HMNLS Sumatra escapes
HMNLS De Ruyter is destroyed (damn that's the best Dutch ship [:(])
HMNLS Tromp is destroyed
The Transport escapes
Submarine escapes

warspite1 -> RE: Bob Flemin's MWIF AARse (11/13/2013 8:21:05 PM)

After the air rebase phase its looking ominous for the Belgians, who pray that the weather god comes to their aid next impulse....

warspite1 -> RE: Bob Flemin's MWIF AARse (11/13/2013 8:25:07 PM)

And so ends another evening of World War II fun and frolics.

So I do not forget, the Soviets have claimed the Finnish Borderland and Bessarabia. The Germans have contested neither. I will see what happens in the next session.

I also need to check the Germans got their convoy counter.

warspite1 -> RE: Bob Flemin's MWIF AARse (11/13/2013 8:42:55 PM)

Question: Apart from a manual count, is there a way to check combat odds before committing to the attack?

Ingtar -> RE: Bob Flemin's MWIF AARse (11/13/2013 8:56:35 PM)

Set up the attack. Move the mouse away. Hover back over the hex and the odds display on the bottom of the declare attacks form. If you don't like them, right click and cancel attack. (Assuming you mean land attacks.)

Thank-you Ingtar I will give that a go.

warspite1 -> RE: Bob Flemin's MWIF AARse (11/14/2013 3:28:26 AM)

In the meantime there is not much the Allies can do. I desperately want another CW Corps in France but failing to reorganise my TRS is hurting [:@].

In better news I looked at the Soviet Union and sure enough the Finnish borderlands and Bessarabia have been created on map - this is just one area where the computer can do so much more than paper maps [:)]

To celebrate their new found territory the 12th Infantry Army marches into Chisnau, while the 33rd Infantry Army goes on a tour of Viipuri and environs [:)]

warspite1 -> RE: Bob Flemin's MWIF AARse (11/14/2013 3:32:04 AM)

Aaggghhhh I should have sailed the Belgian convoy...[8|]

I could have sailed the Home Fleet to provide defensive shore bombardment [8|]

Well played warspite1 [:-]

With so few units the French and British cannot come to the aid of the Belgians..

At least I remember to debark the French 13th Infantry into Toulon - hussah!!

Chickenboy -> RE: Bob Flemin's MWIF AARse (11/14/2013 3:35:24 AM)

I just came across this stonking AAR of yours warspite1. Jolly good show! Almost as riveting as your AAR about brushing your teeth or your AAR about trimming your nails. Keep up the good work!

Oh, do be so kind as to let us know if you actually start an AAR about...um...you know...WiF. Cheerio.

warspite1 -> RE: Bob Flemin's MWIF AARse (11/14/2013 3:42:27 AM)

Onto the Axis impulse and I am greeted with this message. I (as Germany) am going to allow the claim. This gives the Germans benefits in terms of aligning Bulgaria and Hungary in due course.

warspite1

Thank-you sir. Yes you can check out my Brushing Teeth AAR - being English, its a very short work. The Nails AAR is a little more expansive - here are some Minions I painted on my little warspite in the summer holidays:

warspite1 -> RE: Bob Flemin's MWIF AARse (11/14/2013 3:55:49 AM)

...anyway - back to the war.

I take the opportunity to align Finland with Germany. Not sure what the effect is and whether this is the optimal time for so doing - I will have read up on that - but seems like a good idea - and it means I get to place more sexy units on the map [:)]

The navy goes into Turku, an Infantry corps is placed in Petsamo - I bet that's a fun posting - and the remaining units are placed in the south to guard Helsinki.

warspite1 -> RE: Bob Flemin's MWIF AARse (11/14/2013 4:07:11 AM)

Back to the Western Front and Ze Germans set about finishing off the Belgians.

A Ju-88A1 unit flies to Antwerp to Ground Strike the Infantry there..but fails in the attempt. But I suspect the forthcoming battles for the port and Brussels, one hex southeast, will be walkovers. The Anglo-French cannot afford to fly in defence given the German fighters close at hand..

[image]local://upfiles/28156/0C188BC472C747558D210803A78E8982.jpg[/image]

warspite1 -> RE: Bob Flemin's MWIF AARse (11/14/2013 4:12:23 AM)

Brussels is a walkover but Antwerp, although lost, inflicts some heavy casualties on the Germany Army. All units are disorganised and two units lost.

Should have kept von Leeb out of it as he cannot now reorganise anyone. So much to learn here...

warspite1 -> RE: Bob Flemin's MWIF AARse (11/14/2013 4:19:09 AM)

I meant to check that the Germans got the one Dutch Convoy point - and yes, here it is. And so ends another session.

Brian Brian - help!!!

End of turn and I get this screen. This is to do with the Nazi-Soviet neutrality pact and I am being asked to choose offensive/defensive markers...er...right. I put the markers into the offensive column - being offensive just sounds like the sort of thing the Nazi's do. EDIT: I also get to draw one for the Soviets and choose defensive but at this stage do not know what this means...

[image]local://upfiles/28156/A7F1B15BF7C343D594FCBAD5091C0525.jpg[/image]

These markers increases the garrison value needed to break the pact (if you put them as offensive) or to decrease the breaking of the pact (if you put them as defensive).

So, if Germany has 10 garrison points in units and 4 in offensive markers, he now has 14 as number to get against the 2-1 ratio needed to break the pact.
If he is calculating for defense, he has only 10 garrison points (he hasn't any defensive markers).

Hi

If the opportunity arises i would be interested in knowing more about how this PACT process works and your plan towards it.

Thanks

warspite1 -> RE: Bob Flemin's MWIF AARse (11/14/2013 6:40:00 AM)

Sure. I get this message every turn. It tells me what the garrison values are for Germany and the Soviet Union (although its not the easiest of reads). As I understand it, the neutrality pact can only be broken if the garrison value falls below a certain level e.g. if Germany decide to completely ignore Russia and go for other targets, then Stalin would be allowed to take advantage by declaring war on Germany. The calculation changes over time. At the end of the turn I will post something more detailed on this.

As far as my plan is concerned, AH is interested only in Lebensraum - that his is raison d'etre. The plan is to crush the Western powers and then head east - DRANG NACH OSTEN!!!

sanderz -> RE: Bob Flemin's MWIF AARse (11/14/2013 7:02:58 AM)

Hi Warspite, thanks for the update, a few more questions though

so if russia puts a large garrison force and extra chits then germany has to get 2:1 with their garrison/chits to be able to declare war

isn't there an optional rule for making PACT breaking easier (or just correcting?) and if so are you playing with it?

i get the impression that the chance of declaring war on russia before the much historical date is very difficult?

looking forward to seeing how this develops :)

wodin -> RE: Bob Flemin's MWIF AARse (11/14/2013 5:02:05 PM)

I wonder what the reason was not to fight the Finnish Winter War?

It seems to me that USSR was not prepared for a war with Finland so it might have been a fun campaign to fight.

Noted - will provide a full explanation at the end of the turn.

Orm how long have you known me? Don't go looking for some clever reason - I'm a thicky and didn't think of it....[&:]

warspite1 -> RE: Bob Flemin's MWIF AARse (11/14/2013 6:57:52 PM)

Well the Allies had their impulse... absolutely nothing to say. Its basically dig in and await the attack...

warspite1 -> RE: Bob Flemin's MWIF AARse (11/14/2013 7:00:47 PM)

But the attack won't come!!! Saviour - the turn has ended.

Damn I got a load of markers for garrison - but didn't realise it was end of turn - sorry Sanderz, I will do it next turn.

One bit of feedback Steve - It would be good to make clearer when the turn ends!

So what happens now?

There was a load of throws about Partisans [&:] Yeah whatever...

The US Entry has moved up:

Ge/It Entry Level - 17
Japan Entry Level - 7

Now onto Production Planning

warspite1 -> RE: Bob Flemin's MWIF AARse (11/14/2013 7:06:20 PM)

Right the Germans now have a resource from Finland, Holland and Belgium taking their total to 25. The third Swedish resource is still idle but the Finnish resource makes use of the 3rd convoy point. All German factories are thus producing.

No change to Italian Production.

With Japan I still don't understand this form. I tried saving two NEI oil but it looks like they've gone to Production instead???? Oh well, at least it looks like there is no idle Japanese resource so that's handy.
