Here's a tip for your next game. 2 Tips. It is best not to align the Axis Minors in 1939 (I think you are in Nov/Dec '39 still?), unless you need their forces for something ... it is only a 30% chance, but if the alignment triggers drawing a US Entry chit, this could be bad for the Axis in 1939, when there are some very high chits in the pool. The average value goes down a whole lot in 1940. Same calculus for the Soviets entering the Baltic States actually, which might cost the Allies one of the US Entry chits.

But for Finland I would wait until 1941 to align them. As long as they aren't aligned yet, the Russians can't know where the Finnish forces will set up. Once you align them, the Russians can plan their defense of the Kola peninsula quite easily. Also, each passing year the Axis Minors have more units available. At alignment, you receive all of their current forces, but the ones arriving in future years have to be built.

I was surprised you didn't have the Finns fight it out, with a let's-see-what-happens-in-an-historical-game plan. Or perhaps you prefer the gamey-ier approach of shipping the Finns to western Europe for a winter time attack on France? I doubt this, but it has been done in the game by those ever nefarious gamers.

Anyhow, thanks for posting. Now why do you have to go and quit posting when you go off to work? Don't you have priorities?

warspite1 -> RE: Bob Flemin's MWIF AARse (11/14/2013 7:19:13 PM)

China too has no idle resource so that's good.

Now the CW. I have all factories producing but I do not think I have enough oil. I try and save a Venezuelan oil but again, it won't let me.

France has plenty of spare factories but no resources - at least none that I have enough convoy points to bring back to Metropolitan France.

The US have 38 out of 40 factories producing and I manage to save another oil - making 6 in total.

All of the Soviet Union's resources are being put to good use and am saving 5 Oil per turn.

Thanks for the tips.

Firstly, why the hell didn't you and Orm tell me about Finland beforehand eh? eh? I am not looking to do anything gamey and so an historical approach would have been good.

Noted re aligning - I will remember that in future and also for this game leave Hungary Bulgaria and Romania.

Secondly, yes sorry about work an' all - a real bind when there's a war to fight [&:]

warspite1 -> RE: Bob Flemin's MWIF AARse (11/14/2013 7:29:32 PM)

Reorganisation phase now and France has no oil [&:]

Germany has no trouble reorganising all her units with 2.85 oil to spare.

Japan too has a 1.4 surplus

warspite1 -> RE: Bob Flemin's MWIF AARse (11/14/2013 7:32:55 PM)

China's Oil situation is easily under control

The CW has 9 oil, 4 saved and another 5. She needs 3.55 for reorganisation so that's okay.

brian brian -> RE: Bob Flemin's MWIF AARse (11/14/2013 7:36:11 PM)

Nice to see the Reorganize Oil unit form, thanks!

Did the Russians really save 5 oil, or did the screen show 5 surplus available but only one saved (I hope).

warspite1 -> RE: Bob Flemin's MWIF AARse (11/14/2013 7:37:20 PM)

I choose to scrap the Belgian 3-5 Cavalry and the Dutch and Belgian 4-3 Infantry, and the two Dutch cruisers Tromp and De Ruyter, I suspect I won't be able to build new RN cruisers, and if I can, I do not want to run the risk I get one of these [X(]

warspite1 -> RE: Bob Flemin's MWIF AARse (11/14/2013 7:56:11 PM)

That's weird.

I am told that there is a Conquered Naval Unit - Jacob van Heemskerck in Greenland??
There is a throw for it and it is destroyed.

Why? Does anyone know what the hell that was all about?

warspite1 -> RE: Bob Flemin's MWIF AARse (11/14/2013 7:59:18 PM)

I am now being asked to choose a new Home Country for the Netherlands. I choose the United Kingdom, although could have chosen the NEI, Dutch Guyana or any of the CW home countries. Not sure what the best decision is here.

Same for Belgium and I choose the UK again.

warspite1 -> RE: Bob Flemin's MWIF AARse (11/14/2013 8:05:07 PM)

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

Its Jan/Feb 1940 and its scrapping time. Plenty of stuff for the CW to get rid of:

Anson
Wellesley
Nimrod
Gladiator

warspite1 -> RE: Bob Flemin's MWIF AARse (11/14/2013 8:08:50 PM)

Commonwealth

I get another pilot and bring another Hurricane - the MkIIA - into the game.

Duke of York and Anson have been placed into the construction pool along with a submarine.

I get a Dutch militia that I place in Batavia

The 1st South African Infantry Corps is put into Durban

The newly arrived Hurricane (see above) goes into Southampton.

warspite1 -> RE: Bob Flemin's MWIF AARse (11/14/2013 8:12:56 PM)

France

I scrap the French Carrier Air and two rubbish Land Bombers

I am asked if I want to swap the light cruiser De Grasse (which is in the force pool) for a CVL. For the reason please see the write-up for the CVL below. I say no - I am not going to be building either anyway....

I get a pilot and gratefully put him into an MS406 fighter.

warspite1 -> RE: Bob Flemin's MWIF AARse (11/14/2013 8:22:33 PM)

Not much happening elsewhere

The Soviets get two Infantry and the Chinese Communists get one.

warspite1 -> RE: Bob Flemin's MWIF AARse (11/14/2013 8:32:05 PM)

The Germans have some naval air to scrap.

I also receive a message asking if I want to swap Gneisenau for another version. I say yes as this was something Hitler wanted to do (although the replacement arrives in the construction pool and will take a while to be ready). The reason for the replacement is given below.

I get an He-112 fighter for a newly arrived pilot and a white print 7-4 Infantry. The Finns get a couple more units - and are looking quite strong!

The Italians scrap nothing - and receive no reinforcements.

The Japanese scrap some low quality Naval Air and get one Infantry replacement.

warspite1 -> RE: Bob Flemin's MWIF AARse (11/14/2013 8:35:57 PM)

I do not know if this will work but I try setting up a loan of 1 oil to France from the CW. Let's see what happens. I must remember to put a convoy in the North Sea.

warspite1 -> RE: Bob Flemin's MWIF AARse (11/14/2013 8:39:01 PM)

We now have the initiative roll. The Axis win this one and have the first impulse.

Snow? That's reasonable good weather for the attacking side. Snow is much, much better than rain...

I just came across this stonking AAR of yours warspite1. Jolly good show! Almost as riveting as your AAR about brushing your teeth or your AAR about trimming your nails. Keep up the good work!

Oh, do be so kind as to let us know if you actually start an AAR about...um...you know...WiF. Cheerio.
warspite1

Thank-you sir. Yes you can check out my Brushing Teeth AAR - being English, its a very short work. The Nails AAR is a little more expansive - here are some Minions I painted on my little warspite in the summer holidays:

warspite1 -> RE: Bob Flemin's MWIF AARse (11/15/2013 5:48:43 PM)

Okay its Impulse 1 Jan /Feb 1940. I have not had an air battle yet so lets give that a go. I fly a Ju88A1 to the hex northwest of Rheims. A Bf109E2 flies in support.

Two MS406's then fly to intercept; and so the Germans bring in another Bf109. There's going to be a big fight!!

warspite1 -> RE: Bob Flemin's MWIF AARse (11/15/2013 5:51:34 PM)

This is the Air to Air Combat sequence chart. Two 5-quality Luftwaffe aircraft against two 4-quality French. Its a gamble for the French but they are tired of sitting around waiting to be attacked.

[image]local://upfiles/28156/5A157CC6732849DD86BCF1DB92609EF3.jpg[/image]

warspite1 -> RE: Bob Flemin's MWIF AARse (11/15/2013 5:57:38 PM)

The French Air Combat roll is 11. This is a DC result (Defender Cleared) which means the Bomber gets through the fighter screen.

The Germans roll a 16. This is a DX. Defender destroyed. The pilot is saved as the battle took place over French territory.

[image]local://upfiles/28156/A8670C6959B6402DA0E4D1ABD3F71E23.jpg[/image]

warspite1 -> RE: Bob Flemin's MWIF AARse (11/15/2013 6:06:50 PM)

The Germans are asked whether they want to stay or abort. They choose to stay not surprisingly. The French feel lucky and decide to stay....

The French roll a 16 (AA - Attacker Aborts). The German fighter returns to base - except I cannot move the fighter??

I advance the turn and the two remaining fighters battle it out. A dice roll of 3 from the German is another AX - the French fighter strength is no more, but the pilot survives again [8|]

warspite1 -> RE: Bob Flemin's MWIF AARse (11/15/2013 6:08:47 PM)

To rub salt into an already festering open wound, the German ground strike then succeeds... what a hideous turn for les blues...

Meanwhile in China, the Japanese get ready to attack a couple of Nationalist units southwest of Hengyang.
