Tomcat84 -> New Scenario: Frisian Flag (12/8/2013 11:41:19 AM)

27 Feb 15 Latest now below.

Scenario has been undergoing testing on the closed side for some time but now should be pretty much done. So before I submit it to the community pack one last public round of testing.

All feedback and criticism etc is welcome! So not just bugs but also if you enjoyed it, suggestions etc.

Also I'd like to see expenditure and score logs if you could post them. Thanks!

Here's the description:

Frisian Flag

Date/Time: 25th April 2012 / 11:00:00 Zulu
Location: North Western Europe
Playable Sides: Blue
Designer: Tomcat84

Introduction
Frisian Flag is an annual multinational exercise hosted by the Royal Netherlands Air Force at Leeuwarden AFB. It focuses primarily on fighter aircraft working together in COMAO packages. Over the years it has seen a variety of participants from various countries, leading to an interesting mix of airplanes. Two missions are flown each day for two weeks, with various assignments, such as Defensive Counter Air, Air Interdiction, Escort, Dynamic Targeting, combinations of the above and more.

[image]http://bmetz2.home.xs4all.nl/images/command/briefetc/FF/descrpt1.jpg[/image]

This scenario puts you in charge of an afternoon Blue package with AI and DT tasking in the second week of the exercise, and it is up to you to make it work.
To give you an idea of the scope, airplanes scheduled to fly out of Leeuwarden today are as follows:

Blue Air:
• Byte Flight - Royal Air Force Typhoons x 4 - SEAD tasking
• Shock Flight - German Air Force Typhoons x 4 - OCA tasking
• Stingray Flight - Finland Air Force F-18s x 4 - OCA tasking
• Archer/Killer Flights - Dutch F-16s x 8 - AI tasking
• Norman Flight - Norwegian F-16s x 4 - AI tasking
• Hunter Flight - Swedish Gripens x 4 - DT tasking
• King Flight - Polish F-16s x 4 - AI tasking
• Grim Flight - USAFE F-15s x 4 - OCA tasking

Red Air:
• Ivan Flight - Dutch F-16s x 4
• Dalton Flight - Belgian F-16s x 4
• Poker Flight - Swedish Gripens x 2
• Skimmer Flight - Norwegian F-16s x 4
• Player Flight - Norwegian DA-20 Jammer
These aircraft will replicate certain threat types, as will be discussed in the Blue brief. Red Air will be able to regenerate several times in order to provide proper opposition. You will not have to worry about managing that part though, Ivan 1 has it under control :)

Scenario Designer's notes
I hope you enjoy this scenario. Some advice to give you the optimum experience:
Overlays should now load automatically (Feb 2015 update)
- You can load six included custom overlays to make the playing area and in particular your target areas come alive a bit more. I recommend you put the files in the folder Command Modern Air Naval Operations\Overlay\Frisian Flag\ and load them from there. The filenames start with numbers and they should be loaded in order. This is because the more detailed target areas need to be on top of the less detailed larger area ones. So 1-Coastline.png, 2-NE-Coast.png, 3-Cuxhaven.png, 4-Flensburg.png, 5-Helgoland.png and 6-Busum.png

- Additionally I recommend that you turn off the "Scenario Events" notifications in the Game Options -> Message log menu. Otherwise you will see when certain events are fired and it will give you unrealistic SA about who is scrambling etc.

- However, be sure to turn on "Special Messages" as this will help with any DT tasking.

- Enemy proficiency is set to "novice" to generate slightly more realistic missile PH. When future software updates change the way PH%s are calculated this may change. Blue proficiency was set to Novice initially as well for the same reason but with addition of proficiency affecting OODA loop has been adjusted to Regular. If you want more of a challenge you can manually change the Proficiency levels in the Sceneditor.

- Make sure you check your side doctrine/EMCON at start to see if it is to your liking. For example I play with Manual Evasion set to no, so that is how this scenario starts. Feel free to adjust as needed.

- I recommend you turn off "RTB when winchester" doctrine and also do not just order units to RTB in the middle of the fighting area but guide them most of the way home first. Otherwise they may get themselves stuck on the inaccessible German airspace.

Of course feel free to do as you wish, same goes for the intended airspace restrictions (which you will read in the briefing), I cannot force you to follow them, only present them as an intended bit of realism. Have fun and please let me know what you think in the Matrixgames Command forums where you can find me under the name Tomcat84.

Also, an internet connection is useful in order to get all the images in the briefing. (and the atmospheric ones like below :) )

Have fun and let me know what you think!

27 Feb 15 Latest version now up, see my reply of feb 27 below for details.

File can be downloaded here. (35 megabyte download)

renders -> RE: New scenario: Frisian Flag (12/8/2013 4:59:44 PM)

finished it... fantastic!

Tomcat84 -> RE: New scenario: Frisian Flag (12/18/2013 9:21:31 AM)

Thanks! Anyone else?

Maromak -> RE: New scenario: Frisian Flag (12/18/2013 10:29:57 AM)

Probably played this one the most of all the scenarios. Short timeframe with enough replayability. Thanks TC!

Gunner98 -> RE: New scenario: Frisian Flag (12/19/2013 8:21:25 AM)

Good scenario, more targets than bombs, lots of decisions. Played it once and got waxed, will do another run of it tonight.

BG

Tomcat84 -> RE: New scenario: Frisian Flag (6/3/2014 3:32:18 PM)

27 Feb 15 Latest now below.

It's been a while but with the new options with prosecution areas etc I've given this one a few little tweaks on the AI side. Probably not worth replaying it for if you already played it and didn't feel like trying it again, but if you havent played this scenario yet now is a good time! I would appreciate any feedback on this.

And if you felt like giving this one a go again anyway, go for it! :)

If nothing substantial comes up then this revised one can go into the community scens pack to overwrite the current one.

edit 18 dec 2014: see first or last post for latest version

Maromak -> RE: New scenario: Frisian Flag (6/4/2014 10:11:58 AM)

Ok so this is playing significantly harder now...I like it.[:D]

Tomcat84 -> RE: New scenario: Frisian Flag (6/4/2014 10:47:53 AM)

Why is that? Is it the change of SEAD from typhoons to JDAM F-16s? Or what is more difficult? :)

Maromak -> RE: New scenario: Frisian Flag (6/4/2014 11:41:03 AM)

Counter air seems much more effective than before. I noticed that you changed the loadout of the EF2000 on the SEAD mission.

Tomcat84 -> RE: New scenario: Frisian Flag (6/4/2014 12:05:55 PM)

Yeah I got a comment (correctly) that alarm was out if service. Plus now that stationary mobile targets can be attached with JDAM I switched the roles.

Not sure why counter air would be more effective. Are they regening faster or just flying more effectively? If the firer: maybe the tweaks to the airfield "air boss" has made the launching more efficient

Maromak -> RE: New scenario: Frisian Flag (6/4/2014 8:48:35 PM)

I think just flying more effectively even though they appear to be less proficient (I think) than the Blue team. Also since you mentioned regening, there did seem to be more than before.

Gunner98 -> RE: New scenario: Frisian Flag (6/5/2014 1:03:33 PM)

Very tough - but also very fun.

I got my butt kicked again - Average 45 points. I think the threshold for Minor Victory is about 47 or so because I was bouncing around it quite a bit. I have some screenshots and I'll try and do an AAR later when I have a bit of time.

Scenario plays well but the Sov's DCA is a bugger.

There were about 4 or 5 targets left standing but in flames. Only one target not struck. 21 A/C lost [:-] vs 30 shot down.

Tomcat84 -> RE: New scenario: Frisian Flag (6/5/2014 2:53:54 PM)

Do you guys think I should slightly tweak the enemy air component to be easier (slower regens with maybe slightly fewer numbers?) or are you happy with it?

Sardaukar -> RE: New scenario: Frisian Flag (6/5/2014 3:07:51 PM)

Gunner, how did you dare lose Finnish Hornets! [:D]

Tomcat84 -> RE: New scenario: Frisian Flag (6/5/2014 3:10:16 PM)

I think pretty much everyone got hit [:D]

Nah, I like them tough.

Gunner98 -> RE: New scenario: Frisian Flag (6/5/2014 4:35:45 PM)

Yeah it was a bit of a massacre![8|] Sorry about the Finn's but I'm sure if there were Canuk's up there they would have been splatted as well!

I don't think you need to tinker with it - I just need to get better at dodging missiles![X(]

I tend to play 'big hand little map', set up missions and let the pilots do their thing - need more practice on the finesse side of things. I guess that's the difference between Gunners and Pilots [:D][:D]

I agree. Please leave things as they are.[:)]

Gunner98 -> RE: New scenario: Frisian Flag (6/6/2014 1:44:05 AM)

Put an AAR up to describe the massacre[:'(]

taffthomas -> RE: New scenario: Frisian Flag (6/7/2014 10:10:27 AM)

Great scenario sets a benchmark for me on how to set up a scenario
Gunner98 if you think gunners are bad you should see the pigs ear an ex submariner made of it<G>
Picky point there is a typo in the brief Asset Killer task is DEAD javascript:void(AddText('[;)]'))

Tomcat84 -> RE: New scenario: Frisian Flag (6/7/2014 1:23:19 PM)

Not a typo [:)] Their role is Destruction of Enemy Air Defenses (DEAD). They have JDAMs only so there isnt much suppressing they can do, only destructing :)

Thanks for the comments though and I am glad you liked it [:)][8D]

Tomcat84 -> RE: New scenario: Frisian Flag (12/17/2014 9:20:02 PM)

27 Feb 15 Latest now below.

Latest version attached to thread start and this post. Minor update for 1.06 with latest DB and some tweaks to patrol altitudes, numbers behavior etc. Basic function remains mostly the same though :)

Tomcat84 -> RE: New scenario: Frisian Flag (2/27/2015 11:30:40 AM)

You can now find the latest version here. (35 megabyte download)

I am also submitting it for the Scenpack.

Whats changed? Not a whole lot but:
- Overlays are now loaded automatically via new 1.07 functionality
- Running latest Database
- NATO AWACS now part of the blue side, gives more fidelity especially when it classifies new contacts. Recommended to leave its mission as is though but you can mess with it if you want at your own risk :)
- Some minor WRA settings for the AI

How to install:
- Download the linked .zip file
- Extract the included .scen and the attachments folder to a scenario folder of your choosing in the Command scenarios directory.
- Play the scen, overlays should load automatically and look something like this:

[image]http://bmetz2.home.xs4all.nl/images/command/ffoverlay.jpg[/image]

- If you need help, let me know!

Feel free to give it a go. Hopefully theres no gamebreaking issues so I am going to submit it to the pack right away as an update, but if you do see a problem please post!
I am no longer offering an overlayless scen since the download size should not be a big deal these days and install shouldnt be a problem either.
