I chose the theater option to combine the separate units into one Brigade. It looked good on paper.

Here's the T48 front lines. Supply is the biggest problem. I'm having to rotate units in and out of active service and rest them when
they get below 50% supply. But we're pushing north and resistance is light so far.

Here's how the air war is going in T48:

Hmm ... since this version is designed for a German PO, I suppose it might be nice if I marked the locations on the map. As you point out, it is kind of important.

Maybe in the off-map area we could put a much smaller map with the locations marked somehow. Like the Campaign for South Vietnam
did w/ it's province map. Curt did a masterful job on that scenario. It's one of my favorites. THIS scenario ( Sicily to Brenner Pass ) is
getting to be fun now that I'm making some progress again. I've got Italian partisans in northern Italy that are tearing up roads and
blowing bridges and converting the road hexes. It's just a lot of fun. Thanks for talking me into playing this scenario.

Wow, much respect to Curt for putting that solution together ! I love that idea, but I started fiddling with it and it quickly became complex, so I decided on a simplier solution for this scenario, see below.

sPzAbt653 -> RE: Sicily to Brenner Pass Revised (12/29/2013 6:22:57 PM)

Maybe a little subtle, but as I scrolled around I found them easy to spot.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Sicily to Brenner Pass Revised (12/29/2013 9:07:37 PM)

That solution works nicely. I like it.

Here's the T49 front lines:

larryfulkerson -> RE: Sicily to Brenner Pass Revised (12/29/2013 11:13:05 PM)

OK. It's T50 and I see this screen. I'm pretty sure it's a British squadron that's being withdrawn. There's no notation about the
nationality of the unit so I'll have to look it up and set it aside.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Sicily to Brenner Pass Revised (12/29/2013 11:18:48 PM)

Here's the T50 front lines. I'm moving north in a couple of places and I have reason to believe I can overcome the resistsance near
Napoli

larryfulkerson -> RE: Sicily to Brenner Pass Revised (12/29/2013 11:48:36 PM)

I'm starting to run into massive resistance in the Cassino area.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Sicily to Brenner Pass Revised (12/30/2013 12:02:14 AM)

I was going to try to outflank the Cassino crowd by going around the north end but I'm running into resistance there too. It must be
some kind of Gustav line or something.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Sicily to Brenner Pass Revised (12/30/2013 12:14:33 AM)

I'm running into resistance at the Gustav line on the north shore. I'm beginning to believe that there's Germans at or near this Gustav
line all the way across Italy at key spots intermittantly. I just need to find them and destroy them and Rome is mine. Or something like
that.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Sicily to Brenner Pass Revised (12/30/2013 12:51:00 AM)

This situation just cries out for a landing at Anzio to get some units behind the Gustav line Germans. Cut them off from supply and make
it easier to destroy them. I'll need at least two divisions to make this work and I've got one prepping now. They are almost all at 100%
supply and readiness and that's what they will need for the invasion. Now to find another division and get them to a port.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Sicily to Brenner Pass Revised (12/30/2013 1:01:42 AM)

I'm going to use the 1st Canadian Division for the first wave. I floated the HQ unit to Anzio to do some recon of the beaches and so far
they are all clear so it's just a walk ashore. I have about four objectives for the first wave: the two cities, a bridge over some creek or
other and of course Anzio for the supply point. This should be easy getting ashore and making some of the objectives unless there's
some German units there that don't show yet.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Sicily to Brenner Pass Revised (12/30/2013 1:23:26 AM)

I found a division of Free French that weren't doing anything important so I used them also. The invasion went off without a hitch. I've got
a good toehold and I expect Anzio to capitulate any time now. Then I'll ship some more divisions in next turn and take off going east and
west from there.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Sicily to Brenner Pass Revised (12/30/2013 2:15:23 AM)

I think I may have found a weak spot in the Gothic, no, Gustav line. It's not very big and I don't have the supply to shove anybody back
so I'm going to see how and to what extent I can develop this hole in the lines.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Sicily to Brenner Pass Revised (12/30/2013 2:44:09 AM)

I wrote an email to reply to Steve about the new graphics for the supply points etc. and here's what I said:

Hey Steve: Thanks for all the graphics for the scenario. I'm having a blast playing this thing. Of course I'm going to have to
"playtest" the new graphics. I can see me doing this more than once. I'm impressed w/ the number of invasions in this scenario. It's like D-Day to the Elbe but in Italy. The only thing missing are the CDA ( coastal defense guns ) and the ships.
But it would be hard to find the names of all the ships involved etc. I think it plays well enough w/o all that stuff. Those RR
engineer squads you added to some of the engineer units: I can't get much utility out of them. Sometimes they come through and repair a rail but not very often. They are frustrating units. The map is beautiful and I like to discover the names
of cities as I grab them.

Happy holidays and many more for you and your loved ones.

friends,
larry

Here's his reply:

Quisling left the CDA and Naval units out of this scenario, and after I played it a couple times, I think I saw why. They wouldn't have a great effect on the scenario, CDA and Naval stuff doesn't work properly (although Ralph and Bob are trying to get it proper for 3.6), and the invasion sites generally aren't defended so no need for Allied shore bombardment ships. Another aspect was the Germans had a lot of smaller vessels that harrassed the Allied ships, and that would be difficult to simulate and could even be annoying. So overall, I kind of agree with Quislings decision to leave them all out.

Rail Repair is a bugger, but there are two units that are pretty good (75% I think). Overall, its slow going and that only helps slow down the Allies a little. For example, at the point you are now, the Allies were stuck at the Gustav Line until May '44, even with the Anzio invasion. I don't think you'll have so much trouble. So while it is annoying, it should actually be worse.

Oh, and don't playtest it again until you get the latest version. I'm making changes based on what I see in your aar. Nothing major, but every little change helps. So if you do ever want to start it again, let me know.

Thanks,
Steve

I hope he doesn't mind my publishing this out of school ( without his permission ) but it bears on how the scenario plays and is there
fore evidence for the playtest and can be suppenioaed in a court of law. In other words, I could have asked him for his thoughts and
he could have said. So it's almost the same thing. And besides the readers need to know. They have a need to know.

EDIT: I guess the unsaid takeaway from this little episode is that anything you tell me that I think is important for the readers about
the scenario............I'll go all Edward Snowdon on you. Just so you know.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Sicily to Brenner Pass Revised (12/30/2013 2:51:13 AM)

Here's the Anzio beachead now. I'm expanding and importing more trooops and running into some resistance, light so far.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Sicily to Brenner Pass Revised (12/30/2013 3:10:20 AM)

So here's the condition of the air force now. I've devestated the Axis air force and there's only about a dozen JU-87's still left and I'm
going after them in the next combat round. So there's been no big furballs for a while now and the fighters are on INT missions and
there's plenty of planes for each type of mission........I'm happy w/ the situation. I can target what I want w/o any interference from the
Axis air now. No more INT interruptions. It's pretty knarley right now.

EDIT: Oh, yeah, I wanted to say that I noticed that none of the planes is resting, and they are all in the green. Those are two symptoms
that I'm not pushing them hard enough now. Maybe I should go for three-dot attacks for a while.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Sicily to Brenner Pass Revised (12/30/2013 3:18:53 AM)

Here's the attack result of an airfield attack on the JU-87's that were hiding way up in the NE corner of the map and probably represents
the last of the Axis air force for a while. I couldn't find any more Axis air units on the map anywhere. Maybe my recon isn't the best.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Sicily to Brenner Pass Revised (12/30/2013 3:27:34 AM)

Local German counterattacks have blunted my expansion from the beachead. I'm going to have to ship in more arty to help out. And it's
time to unleash the three-dot attacks by the bombers. Especially on HQ units and arty.

EDIT: This is before I've moved anybody. I'm planning on taking up the slack at the front and relocating the arty and so on. It's going
to look different in a turn or two.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Sicily to Brenner Pass Revised (12/30/2013 3:34:26 AM)

At least two more Axis squadrons have popped up in T53 further up the boot but I've got some airfield attacks scheduled to take care of
that. I haven't located any more Axis airplanes besides these.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Sicily to Brenner Pass Revised (12/30/2013 3:41:30 AM)

Same spot zoomed in a little bit: I'm going to try to breach the Gustav line where the hole is and maybe wrap around the ends of the
Axis units in the line.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Sicily to Brenner Pass Revised (12/30/2013 3:51:42 AM)

Here's the supply situation where all the action is happening. It's great coming away from Anzio but not so great coming from Napoli.

I've been moving units and now the Area Of Interest looks different. Compare this picture w/ the previous one.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Sicily to Brenner Pass Revised (12/30/2013 4:32:42 AM)

I've discovered that if you split up the partisans into parts you get greater utility from them. I only discovered this after an attack split my
partisan unit and then I had three. Pretty nifty.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Sicily to Brenner Pass Revised (12/30/2013 4:45:54 AM)

Here's the results of a two-dot airfield attack on some two Axis squadrons and I wiped out one but the other survives. Strike two is in the
works to get the rest of them.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Sicily to Brenner Pass Revised (12/30/2013 5:04:06 AM)

The British No. 13 Squadron has lost so many planes that it's yellow even though the readiness is relatively high. And the proficiency
is among the highest of any of the squadrons. In WITP-AE the squadron would be disbanded and the pilots would all be made
instructors at the flight school and so on. But there's no way to disband the squadron in TOAW so I'm thinking I need to base this bad
boy somewhere safe so it can sort of fill out some. There's about 6 or 7 squadrons of these things and there's only 10 planes on hand
so it's going to be a while before this unit will see any new planes. I'm going to park it at Malta. It's quiet there.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Sicily to Brenner Pass Revised (12/30/2013 5:20:40 AM)

Here's the condition of the planes after two combat rounds w/ three-dot attacks. Some of them have to rest because they are orange
but there's a lot of them that have a readiness of 80% or more. I'm putting them on INT missions. Lots of them.
