Klydon -> RE: A musical global war AAR... (3/5/2015 9:23:26 PM)

Well, just how lucky can the Axis get this game? Decent weather again, followed by a turn end, followed by Axis winning initiative with good weather? Pretty much curtains for the Russians to a point. The Russian lines, especially in the north, looked pretty thinned out. To be sure, they likely have a lot coming in and at least in the north, have the cities to stage the troops out of.

Zhukov has temporarily stopped the Germans, but that area is still a mess to a point for the Russians. With Baku as the only nearby city and unable to rail in re-enforcements except 1 to the HQ unit there, the Russian prospects still don't look good. Fortunately for them, the Germans are pretty much at the end of their logistical reach for the moment and can't extend in much further, although it appears some additional troops are in the way for the Germans.

Centuur -> RE: A musical global war AAR... (3/6/2015 6:50:56 PM)

I'm thinking on attacking Zhukov in a 1-2 attack now. Together with the +2 of Zhukov being disorganised, the chance that he will be killed is about 45% on the assault table (and if the Blitzkrieg table is used, the chance that the hex is emptied is more than 50%). Any thoughts on sacrificing the best INF Germany has got against Zhukov? If it succeeds, the USSR can't prevent the Germans from aligning the Turks anymore. I think Germany can stand the loss of the INF. Otherwise, Germany might end up in bad weather fighting a larger stack in the mountains. And there is the supply situation which makes that very difficult too (even if Balbo spends the supply unit)...

A 45% chance to trade a 3 BP unit for an 8 BP unit and align Turkey soon after? [&o]

What are you waiting for? [:)]

November/December 1941, Axis impulse number 9:

All Axis powers take land actions.

The Italian naval command in Rome suddenly realizes that a Spanish TRS is sitting alone in a port within range of one of their NAV in Mogadishu and no FTR's or CVP are present to intercept. Orders go out to attack the port:

Centuur -> RE: A musical global war AAR... (3/7/2015 1:44:52 PM)

The Italian pilots, after a long flight in the hot sun, are not capable of damaging the TRS.

The Japanese enter Port Moresby and keep moving units towards the Siamese-Birmese border.

The Luftwaffe, is slowly getting short on fuel and ammo. Goering didn't expect that so late in the year, the aircraft would still be very usefull in the war. So there is only one ground strike:

Movement to improve positions is done along several frontlines.. However, due to the rain and the fact that a lot of German units are now disorganised (who expects 2 good weather and one reasonable weather turn in Nov/Dec in a row) there are only two battles. The first is in the Ukraine, where von Rundstedt orders his forces to attack. Since he doesn't want to lost the ARM involved, he chooses the Assault table:

Apparently the mud makes it impossible for the German tanks to move properly on the battlefield. The Ukrainian front stalls for the remainder of this turn...

Next, Guderian carries out his orders from the Führer. Zhukov decides he wants to improve his chances on survival, chooses the Blitzkrieg table.

November/December 1941, Allied impulse number 11:

Now, if all nations pass, the chance of the turn ending is 70%. However, the USSR is in deep trouble if the turn doesn't end if they pass, since then Baku will be taken by the German MECH. Also, the convoy line from the US to the UK needs to be repaired. Therefore, the Allies don't pass:

CW takes a naval, the USSR a land and the French and the US take combined actions.

Listen to: Walkin’ By The River - Una Mae Carlisle

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W7DmNTZzWBA

The US sends 4 CP into the North Atlantic. The British send a lot of cruisers into the 4, 1 and the 0 boxes of the same sea area, together with 8 CP. Some other naval movement is made too. Of course, the CW doesn't want a fight in the North Atlantic, but the Italian admiral is coninually searching for enemy shipping. He hasn't seen a lot of that, in the last couple of weeks, but the orders from Rome are clear: stay in the sea area and search for enemy shipping for as long as you have fuel available for the return to Lisbon...

And again, the Italians find the Allied merchantmen:

However, this time, the CW cruisers are able to damage the Littorio:

Centuur -> RE: A musical global war AAR... (3/8/2015 1:04:06 PM)

Both sides decide to stay in the sea area. The Allied convoys disappear in the rain (search rolls fail to find eachother).

And here is: Blitzkrieg Baby (You Can't Bomb Me), by Una Mae Carlisle

Bomber Command takes off again. Target: Brussels, and there are no Axis fighters available to intercept:

STAVKA receives word of Zhukov getting wounded in the battles in the south. He is currently in hospital and the Comrade doctor estimates it will be a long time, before he can get back into action again. Another factory is railmoved into Siberia. Baku is within reach of the German mobile spearhead and needs to be defended. Some minor movement is made along the frontlines to improve positions. Here is the Persian front:

The turn doesn't end (roll: 9, chance 50%). And here is the weather report for the next couple of impulses:

November/December 1941, Axis impulse number 13

The chance that the turn will end is now 70%. The Luftwaffe is all but exhausted, das Heer almost completely disorganised and not in the position to do more than move some units at the Turkish-Persian-Soviet border and make one last attack this turn. That leaves the German fleet.

So listen to: Unsere Marine Marsch

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1-PjGLaq_DU

Germany takes a combined impulse, Italy and Japan naval action. A fast taks force, consiting of the ugly sisters and 4 cruisers sails into the 4 box of the North Atlantic. The Germans wants to initiate combat in the North Atlantic.

Just as the Gneisenau spots the merchantmen, the Italians also enter the scene of the battle. Trapped between the two forces, the CW cruisers don't stand a chance:

Centuur -> RE: A musical global war AAR... (3/9/2015 8:41:28 PM)

Of course, the Axis fleet stays in the sea area. Now, this gives the CW some thinking. Aborting means that the CW production will be almost nothing this turn. Staying runs the risk of getting more losses on the convoys in the sea area. Difficult decision. The CW decides to stay and hopes for the best. A wise decision, since both sides don't find eachother anymore (search rolls 8 and 6)...

Italian Flying boats appear above the city of Glasgow. They target the industrial area. There are no CW FTR's to protect the factories:

Guderian orders his forces to take positions at the Turkish borders. In Ankara and Istanbul the Turkish population goes on the street to force the government to join the Axis and retake territory which is now part of the USSR. The Turkish government calls for a full mobilization of the military forces.

Von Bock orders an attack in the Ukraine to see if he can get a beachhead across the Dniepr. The remaining Luftwaffe FTR's give ground support. The Soviets choose the Assault table:
