Lowpe -> RE: Disaster! (7/6/2016 10:07:20 PM)

A fair amount of VP hiding out in ships up river.

They are all gone, but can I use them to get some VP back somehow?

Four E's that made the long, and often high speed, run from Tokyo. Amazing.

Lowpe -> RE: Disaster! (7/7/2016 2:50:19 AM)

Turn is away, and I am beat...I will delay Jockes turn till first thing in the morning.

Pretty hot here today...

Anyway, I am worried about Allied destroyers coming up the river. I have one good base force, which might do so damage with their CD and DP guns, also a 2 ship DD task force looking to ambush his destroyers and as many divebombers from Sian and Ankang as I can spare. Even a squadron of Helens flying low naval.

Search is a little weak on the river, and the CD guns have two ML patrolling the hex, hopefully they will trigger the guns. I forgot to examine the Commander of the CD unit...

Other than that, I have two other ambushes up. They are small...

I am still draining the last dregs of my planes from the pools, and still making Oscar IVs...

Trying to build up some troop strength at Changsha...especially some AT strength there.

Oct 22, 1944

As expected the Allied ships surge up river. Fire those CD guns, boys! Or run into the mines. Something.

Japanese flak concentrations force even the vaunted B29 to fly high.

The sub war in the SRA is hard on both sides...

Lowpe -> RE: Disaster! (7/7/2016 12:52:56 PM)

Defying all expectations, Matsumaya holds for another day.

It is being swept heavily now, and no opportunity to ambush the bombers has occurred recently.

Tuyun is holding...for now. Can't hurt the tanks...[:(]

Lowpe -> RE: Disaster! (7/7/2016 1:01:17 PM)

Can't stop the tanks...

I may send a force to Changsha, I can probably buy out a fair bit of ART from Manchuko, but lack of supply makes it questionable...

My fault for losing all my artillery in Vietnam...

No reserves other than around Hong Kong/Canton and the Allies don't seem to be pushing in strength that way.

Lowpe -> RE: Disaster! (7/7/2016 1:03:47 PM)

Three Allied Carrier Task Forces are two hexes east of Shanghai...

Allies have 6 destroyers headed up river in China...CD guns, mines, are ineffective so far.

Plane losses for the day...under reports losses to AA.

Lowpe -> RE: Disaster! (7/7/2016 1:09:13 PM)

VP Ratio is no 2.343 to 1; climbing up .003 for the day.

I've just started a game (23 Dec 41) as Japan playing RHS. I've only made it to about April '44 before as Japan and that was years ago. While there is good insight by you and other Japanese players on aircraft production, what wisdom can you pass on concerning supply generation and building up a surplus? It seems that your forces are just being overwhelmed due to little or no supplies in a hex/base.

Your normal advice: don't go crazy with plane builds, expanding your economy or industry or facilities.

Watch what you rebuild.

Watch for spoilage.

You need to build supply hubs. Stockpile supply in large numbers for future combat especially along rail lines.

Moulmein area. Bangkok/Singers area. Cam Ranh Bay line.

Don't lose the air war...protect those supply hubs from bombing.

Stockpile some devices of questionable use.

Don't build runways, ports, forts without good reasons.

Protect your industry...and don't give the Allies a free meal with no AA guns at ports, industrial centers, big airways etc. Extract a cost for every Allied bombing raid.

I though I had ample supply on the HI, but between rebuilding a few too many divisions and Allied runway bombing it goes really fast...

I seriously underestimated Chinese supply needs when active fighting (and bombing) reached here.

Lowpe -> RE: Disaster! (7/8/2016 12:54:50 AM)

Turn is away...

I scrounged up a whole bunch of troops, and even bought a 1/3rd of a division and sent them to Wuchang, and from there to Changsha. I have been doing this for a few days now, but today I really picked up the pace.
I will have infantry (plentiful), artillery and AA. Very little armor.

My normal traps up this turn...

BB repairing...I did halt E production since the Allies now have 6 Fletchers due south of Tokyo waiting to catch my escaping E's--he caught two yesterday. I will hold off for awhile, and then wait for the full moon and go PT boat hunting with some.

I released the spare supply stockpile at Shanghai and Hong Kong.

It doesn't help that he really outnumbers me everywhere now...and I have no anti-tank capability north of Canton.

Oh, one other thing...I calculated my supply needs several months back, and decided to rebuild quite a few troops after the Vietnam losses. However, I did not take into account the inability of shipping more supply to China or the effect of the runway bombing on Honshu. I did try to skate on thin ice by planning on running out of supplies Jan 1, 1945. Cut it too close.

Lowpe -> RE: Disaster! (7/8/2016 11:24:24 AM)

Oct 23, 1944

Allies bombard Honshu heavily, bomb Honshu and China.

A handful of Lillies actually make a strike on the destroyers heading up river.

Lowpe -> RE: Disaster! (7/8/2016 11:25:46 AM)

I have never pulled off a Helen strike on ships...70 skill lowNav pilots striking at 1000 feet.

Miss...miss...and miss.

[image]local://upfiles/44178/10517E9B1CCC4F1FA57F9C2A56FD3B29.jpg[/image]

Are the Allies sweeping, preparing for a river invasion? Or just after the ships?

Lowpe -> RE: Disaster! (7/8/2016 11:29:05 AM)

Plane losses...got careless with my fighters on the ground I guess.

Lowpe -> RE: Disaster! (7/8/2016 11:30:14 AM)

VP ratio climbs .004 to 2.347 to 1.

Lowpe -> RE: Disaster! (7/8/2016 11:34:48 AM)

China...

Freeing up the last of the very small supply stockpiles here.

Situation grim.

Not too good.

Lowpe -> RE: Disaster! (7/9/2016 8:43:40 PM)

Turn is away...

I have a bout a 1 week with only one game so I hope to really put out the turns here & perhaps I will fail when Chungking falls.

I will try my best, but it is getting very hard to fight back.

I have a few surprises up my sleeve...yet!

Lowpe -> RE: Disaster! (7/10/2016 12:32:47 PM)

Oct 24, 1944

Allies do a better job catching my fleets...I lose a LST in the Sea of Japan and 2 E's that were within 20 hexes of Luzon. Naval search has really blanketed the area.

Here, finally the DP guns fire...but I need them to catch the ships as they pass thru....but they haven't as of yet.

Lowpe -> RE: Disaster! (7/10/2016 12:39:27 PM)

No joy here...excellently trained pilots dropping bombs from 2000 feet.

I have been totally ineffective in using Helen's versus ships.

Lowpe -> RE: Disaster! (7/10/2016 12:42:25 PM)

The end comes for Matsumaya...

Frees up 4 bombardment task forces, 3+ divisions for use elsewhere.

Not to mention the VP swing.[:(]

Tuyun falls...

[image]local://upfiles/44178/1520ED8287B54E72AC1A66528E42439C.jpg[/image]

Lowpe -> RE: Disaster! (7/10/2016 1:23:02 PM)

The loss of Matsumaya allows the Allies to climb their VP total to 171,605.

However, my release of supply from some stockpile bases garners me a 1,400 increase in VP, to 74,253 and a pickup of 710 for the day.

Victory point ratio back down tow 2.311.

A one day blip only as the Allies are on the march...

Lowpe -> RE: Disaster! (7/10/2016 1:27:53 PM)

Turn is away....I have one good CAP Trap set up with, shocker of all shockers, a full 49 plane fighter Squadron.

Oscar IVs, but hey, the Allies haven't seen a full Sentai in a long, long time. I threw in some Zekes too.

A smaller trap is set up with Tonies.

About 50 units on Honshu are in SR mode, waiting for the north coast invasion that I deem most likely. We will fight on the beaches, suffer the hideous bombardments and die there.

Allies haven't cut the railway from Osaka to the east, when they do I know the invasion is close.

ny59giants -> RE: Disaster! (7/10/2016 1:51:21 PM)

Kobe & Osaka - As Allies, isolate, place two divisions in each base, move units across to gain control of all hexsides, move on....

Garrison requirements - how many troops do the Allies have to keep in Home Island bases??
