About two turns ago John's units got across the westmost river and I've been attempting to put the stopper back in the bottle and it's
not working. John is breaking through and has started making pockets and moving to the next river to the east, my next line of defense.
This has been the pattern followed so far in this game. The map is so big and this kind of event happens so often that it's difficult to
know which breakthrough to rush toward every time. And the position of units that you've just moved tends to blend into the position
of units you haven't moved yet and having a mental picture of the "battlefield situation" is really hard to keep clear and accurate.Lots of
little things are falling through the cracks and are becoming big things. I'm losing control of the general fall-back going on. Units are
being rounded up and destroyed all over the map. We're descending into chaos here.

I'm wondering what the yellow diamonds are supposed to signify to the north of Leningrad. I'm guessing they are a national border
symbol.

John has Panzers up to Pskov already. My defenders might not last very long if he gets serious with them. And there's no backup in
the AO either. A breakthrough here would open the path to Leningrad.

Larry, all is not that bad. You did stop me from taking 2 of the 3 objectives that I HAD to take by the end of turn 12. And the way things are going at present I do not think I will be able to take the next lot by turn 18.

A lot of my units are now starting to run on "red". I have kept 1 tank 1 mech inf and 7 inf divs in reserve which I am now starting to feed into the battle. One of the principles of war is to maintain a reserve at all times and when you commit the reserve to form another one ASAP. My big problem will be the state of the reserve and how long it will take to get back to strength and thus be suitable to use.

And you are moving into recently conquered areas where the supply is lower than nominal and your RR engineers won't be able to
keep up with the front, probably, so maybe my front lines might eventually start to hold their own. I've got reinforcements resting behind
the lines and they will be ready to move in a turn or three and then fresh men will start to show up at the front and then toward the middle
of the winter I might be able to make limited counterattacks. And one thing will lead to another and eventually I'll own Berlin.

larryfulkerson -> RE: FITE2.......Fogger......Fulkerson (4/30/2014 9:21:09 PM)

Here's the Soviet view of the area where John dropped some Axis paratroopers. He's captured crossings over the river which are one of
the things keeping my front lines from collapsing so it's important that I take 'em back before the Axis main body reaches that position so
it's really fortunate that I have two divisions and some arty within movement range to try to put the stopper back in the bottle.

fogger -> RE: FITE2.......Fogger......Fulkerson (4/30/2014 9:46:19 PM)

"I have two divisions and some arty within movement range" Pluck a duck. How I am going to have to mount a relief operation before I lose them. I was hoping that they would hold until the main body got to them. It is a good thing I did not drop them on the east side of the river. Starting singing that tune larry as I am off to work now.

larryfulkerson -> RE: FITE2.......Fogger......Fulkerson (4/30/2014 9:54:07 PM)

John is starting to run into my front lines to the west of Smolensk. I've gotten a rudimentary front line set up but I don't think I should hold
my breath to think that it might hold more than a turn or two. I've got units headed to a spot to the east of here to form another line.

larryfulkerson -> RE: FITE2.......Fogger......Fulkerson (5/1/2014 4:42:17 AM)

I've found another FITE2 bug. There's a unit that must travel on rails only and it's respawning on a hex that hex that has no rail.

fogger -> RE: FITE2.......Fogger......Fulkerson (5/2/2014 11:48:03 AM)

Rybnitsa bridgehead.
I was not too sure if I should have reinforced my paratroopers or try and keep Larry off balanced. I decided to try and take another bridge just to the south. My thinking is that even if Larry could mount a strong counter attack it is unlikely that he would take all 3 bridgeheads. Mean while back at the Rybnitsa bridgehead I am in the process of breaking out. It is only 42kms to the paratroopers and I should be able to make it them next turn.

larryfulkerson -> RE: FITE2.......Fogger......Fulkerson (5/2/2014 7:50:46 PM)

OKay........I've gotten some more moves from John and I'm moving my units and I've come upon another one of those armoured train
units that has to run on the rail and here's a case, again, of where it's respawning on a non-rail hex. So I guess I'll just disband it too.

Here's what's left of my Stalin Line. It's really confused and getting out of control.

Josh -> RE: FITE2.......Fogger......Fulkerson (5/3/2014 6:31:41 AM)

"...It's really confused and getting out of control..."

Well it *is* 1941 still, so historically quite correct. I agree with you that looking at that map ... [X(]
Remember that Stalin and his generals at the time mostly didn't even know where their troops were...only way to find out was actually visit them.

fogger -> RE: FITE2.......Fogger......Fulkerson (5/4/2014 1:06:44 AM)

It has taken almost the entire turn to break out of the bridgehead. Depending on what is front I should make contact with the paratroopers next turn

The southern front just before the end of turn 15. My recon units are now racing down south east to see what forces I can trap on the west side of the river

larryfulkerson -> RE: FITE2.......Fogger......Fulkerson (5/4/2014 5:50:16 AM)

John is breaking through at Pskov. My defenders weren't ready and the defense was make shift and obviously wasn't adequate so I'm
not surprised at this turn of events. Now I'll have to depend on the close-in defenders and I'll bet they aren't ready either.

I suspect the yellow diamonds are the houserule "No-Go Line" for the Finns. Sound right?

Has anyone ever actually completed this scenario PBEM more than once? I wonder how players have experienced the flow of events. Do the German players typically win or are they ascendant in 41-42 before the Russians start getting a leg up from 43 on-ward, with or without some big Stalingrad-like disaster. Or something different.

I'm not sure FITE2 has been played PBEM before. It's not being played PBEM now. John Fogger and I are sending a hot-seat file
back and forth because the scenario couldn't find it's equipment file.

I'm not sure how I'm doing strategically but tactically I'm losing I think. John is beating me to the best terrain to defend in and it's starting
to show. We haven't seen any mega-pockets yet but John is working on making one I bet. It's only T15 and thus may be too early to
get a grip on the strategic situation yet. Here's how the air war is going right now.

This is the 1st game of FITE2 to have an AAR. It is my understanding that the developers also have a test game going.

This current game between Larry and myself is also a test game. It would be a real pain in the butt if the game was released and you get turn 299 and it makes a left hand turn and crashes into a blue screen because a "," was in the wrong place.

So far we have found a couple of small bugs. But not sure if they are TOAW 3.6 or FITE2 related. People are looking at / working on them as I type. As Larry has stated we are playing "2 player hot seat" because there was a problem with 3.6 doing PBEM but this may be fixed.

As for FITE 1 there are a number of players who have played several games to the end. My first game I got to turn 386 before I lost. I think Larry has played 3 or 4 games of FITE1.

GenSlack -> RE: FITE2.......Fogger......Fulkerson (5/5/2014 3:37:38 PM)

Fogger,
Where were the front lines at turn 386 of FITE 1?

Are FITE1 turns half-week? If so, it's mighty impressive that this monster scenario loosely matched the historical timeline -- i.e., ending c. mid 1945.

fogger -> RE: FITE2.......Fogger......Fulkerson (5/7/2014 1:37:40 PM)

Well guys
I have good news and bad news.

The bad news is that this game between Larry and me as come to an end. Some of the bugs found to date have created a few problems.

The good new is that Soren and team have been working on the bugs found so far in FITE2 and Ralph has fixed 3.6 so that it can now play PBEM. (He is still working on other issues)

So Soren and I will now test play by PBEM the updated FITE2. As I work as an accountant and with the EOFY I become a busy little boy so Larry has agreed to be my editor / ghost-writer. I will be sending my end of turn files to him and he will be posting the AAR.

Now all I got do is to get this 3.6 to load ( I have been working on it for the past 1.5 hours) and we should be off and running.

Stay tuned.

I'm sure the readers enjoyed your AAR sofar, I certainly did.
Comrade Larry lives to fight another day [:D]

fogger -> RE: FITE2.......Fogger......Fulkerson (5/8/2014 1:39:52 PM)

I am 30% of the way into my first turn with Soren. I should finish Friday or sometime on the week end. I will send Larry a file to start the new AAR shortly. have already destroyed 4,500 aircraft for the lost of 15

Now you only need to find a way to do so every turn [;)]
