New and updated version of USS Midway v. Cuba (The War That Never Was), 1989
Please replace the old file in the community scenario pack with this one. Special thanks to all those who helped with the update.

I just checked the scenario in the community pack, and I believe that the old version of this scenario is the one being used. Could you please update it to the attached version? Thanks!

kevinkins -> RE: Please use this to post ready scenarios for Community (10/2/2016 6:30:47 PM)

Quick question. Is there a list/database/spreadsheet of all the scenarios that are "final" and part of the growing community pack?
This would be handy to have if one exists especially if it contained info on scenario length and complexity (etc...) I have also seen a way to place war game battle locations on Google Maps which is very cool. Not that I am volunteering. [;)]

Thanks.

I've upgraded and fixed certain errors in Felton's scenarios "Under African Skies" and "Goodnight Irene" that were never posted to this thread.

After some discussion about this, I've decided to post them here. scen. and ini. attached.

There is a spreadsheet in the Community Pack zip of the status of the scenarios.

kevinkins -> RE: Please use this to post ready scenarios for Community (10/15/2016 11:11:57 PM)

Thanks, that will be very useful. And here is my first addition.

Scenario: "Save the Day"
Date: September 11th, 2017
Location: Approaches to the Suez Canal
Playable Sides: United States Navy

Description:

11 September 2017. The Islamic terrorist group ISIS has splintered under military and economic pressure into several factions.
While newer members are hiding in what remains of northern Syria, a militant group calling themselves "Allah's Fire" has caused
world concern since the beginning of the summer. Intel reports and never ending "chatter" have indicated no particular concern
this morning until stuff hit the fan a 0630. Reports hint at a major operation centered on the area around the Suez Canal and Israel.

Replay: under Game>Special Actions run the script to change the enemy positions for a fresh battle.

Ready for the Community Scenario Pack.

Is there a formal process to add your scenario designs to the community scenario pack?

This is not formal by any means, but what I do is I post a scenario for review. As comments come in, I revise the scenario and post second, third, etc. versions. I wait until any commentary on it has stopped long enough for it go to the second page of the forums. I then post a request for any final comments or suggestions and wait, once again, for it to go the second page of the forums. At this point, usually a couple of weeks after I posted the original version, I figure the scenario is as good as it is going to get, and anyone who wanted to offer suggestions on it has done so, and I post a "final version" here.

I hope this helps.

kevinkins -> RE: Please use this to post ready scenarios for Community (10/29/2016 4:48:23 AM)

Thanks for the feedback. Not sure of the difference between "final version" here and those included in the community scenario zip file. I like your approach about posting a beta in the main forum while maintainng this thread for tested material. Maybe the zip file is updated periodocally from this thread?

Mr. Molina (aka Meroka37) assembles the scenarios posted in this thread into the Community Scenario Pack and uploads it periodically to the Warfaresims site. I think that we're all pretty grateful for his efforts on our behalf. Some people do not bother getting feedback and just post their "completed" works here and as far as I know there is no hard and fast rule one way or the other. Probably most of us scenario writers do things the way Mark (aka Mgellis) does. I have zero idea what happens with the Steam Workshop scenarios since us non-steamers are deemed worthy of sharing the scenarios posted there.

kevinkins -> RE: Please use this to post ready scenarios for Community (10/29/2016 1:42:23 PM)

Great explanation and will follow Mark's lead. I let my scenario rest as beta for only a week but will leave it here. It's small enough to do so with little risk. I have another coming up on beta later this week and will let it sit longer.

Thanks,

Kevin

Northern Fury 13.1 Shoulder to Shoulder.

kevinkins -> RE: Please use this to post ready scenarios for Community (11/11/2016 11:05:59 PM)

Location: The skies of Western Europe
Date/Time: October 16, 2017 2200 Hours
Playable Sides: USAF (NATO-USA Leads)

Description:
Kaliningrad is both a city and an oblast in the Russian Federation locked between Poland, Lithuania, and the Baltic Sea. Before it was annexed by the USSR after World War II, the area was part of a unified German state called East Prussia. Its capital was the classic medieval city, Konigsberg. Today, Kaliningrad is a time capsule of the decaying former Soviet Union. But its position is a thorn in the side of NATO and any defense of the Baltic. Russia created an anti-access/area denial ‘bubble’ (A2/AD) with Kaliningrad at the center. Recently they installed S-400 SAMs to increase the range and effectiveness of the position. Commercial flights into and out of Warsaw have been tracked from Kaliningrad for the past three weeks setting up a nervous situation for everyone. Yesterday, amid a NATO cyberwarfare drill, a Russian junior officer sent a salvo into a LOT flight with 39 Americans on board. The explosion rocked the world and NATO had enough of the denial bubble. Tonight, you are to lead the attack to destroy the Kaliningrad position so Polish troops can simply occupy the Russian oblast in the morning. This will be relatively easy. The remainder of NATO is positioning to discourage a Russian response elsewhere in Europe and the Middle East. NATO balanced forces accordingly.

Avoid spoilers: Please send feedback to kevinkin@comcast.net. Thanks

kevinkins -> RE: Please use this to post ready scenarios for Community (11/19/2016 5:15:42 AM)

Location: Ancient Anatolia and the Caspian Sea 2018
Date/Time: October 25, 2018 0900 Hours
Playable Sides: USA (elements USAF and USN)

Description:
The Caspian holds large energy resources both tapped and under development. Territorial claims and ambiguities fester amongst the nations bordering the inland sea. Russia's modernized Caspian flotilla just announced another “Flash Exercise” that began roughly 3 hours ago. NATO is on alert. The USN has a small group of observers on the Caspian shore in Azerbaijan. Russian backed rebels are shelling the disputed Nagorno-Karabakh region. Begin patroling, remain flexible and await developments as they unfold via in-game messages.

Senkaku Stir Fry 2020
Location: Across the East China Sea
Date/Time: November 4, 2020 00:00 Hours
Playable Sides: USA (elements US Navy and the Japan Self Defence Force)

Description:
Japan's energy situation deteriorated over past decade and is currently exploring reserves in area of the disputed Senkaku Islands. China and Japan recently hammered out an agreement regarding area fishing rights, but the natural gas situation has not been settled. Over the past several weeks, China's UAV patrols against the exploration rigs have made the region very nervous. The US Navy sent the carrier Ronald Reagan to South Korea in a show of support for Japan. The status quo would serve Japan's interest. After a decade of economic woes, China is in no position to exploit the reserves. But why should they sit by and let a major competitor steal what is rightfully theirs?

Feedback is always welcome. Please avoid spoilers and contact me at kevinkin@comcast.net

Thanks.

Peter66 -> RE: Please use this to post ready scenarios for Community (12/8/2016 5:53:48 PM)

Best option here is just post the briefing as it is a master template I have worked on recently. Also uploaded on the Steam Workshop. Any constructive criticism or ideas are very welcome:

This is a master template file and contains as much as I could think of that may be required for complex scenario creation.

Every Country of the world is included. Along with special sides:
Civilian: For civilian shipping and aircraft. These are also set to "Blind" to save on computing power.
Pirates: They might not have muskets and cannons any more but they still hijack ships.
Terrorists: Got some extra ordnance you need to get rid of before the next budget?

Player: This side is for the player and can be renamed to what ever your scenario requires. It comes preset with the USS Ronald Reagan CVN 76 off the east cost of the UK. Loaded with aircraft courtesy of Kushan from Kushan's Carriers, so all credits to him for that. The carrier comes with ready made missions for AAW, AEW, ASW, Air Intercept and a Ferry mission. These were set up as accurately as I could fathom out from a bit of research but I may be wrong. You also are given Exclusion Zones set up at varying intervals. Clearly you won't want to use the carrier I placed down all the time. To change the unit simply place a reference point directly on top of CVN 76 (as close as you can) delete CVN 76 and place your new master unit (carrier works best for these missions). Unlock all reference points and set all of them to Rotating Bearing on your new master unit. Reset the Ferry mission to your master unit and you are good to go in about 5 minutes of work.

All missions are set to Inactive and no Exclusion Zones are active either.

DEVELOPER: This side is omniscient and has God's Eye View turned on. Useful for seeing everything without swapping sides and also placing reference points that cross multiple sides for events.

All sides apart Player are set to Computer Only. Other settings are default across the board.

Other useful mentions are a huge list of Actions for events. Including more weather options than you can shake a stick at. Lua templates for unit creation and various points (both +/-) ready for use. Along with message box templates for reports etc...

Hi there. A lot of work went into the file you posted. I am not sure if designers will know exactly how to use it however. If someone wanted to design a scenario for the South China Sea between the US and China, would they edit your scenario file down to what they needed? I have been thinking of a template approach like yours to help out. But just related to common scoring events. In the end, it always seem easier to start from scratch. Please let us know a bit more about the idea since you could be on to something interesting. Thanks.

Kevin

Peter66 -> RE: Please use this to post ready scenarios for Community (12/9/2016 11:36:39 AM)

Essentially it was designed so that you could take the template and edit it to whatever scenario you are doing. You can delete the carrier and missions if you want to, they were for designed primarily for me but thought they might benefit someone else too. How I would do a scenario for the South China Sea between US and China:
Load Master Template
Rename "Player" side to whatever the side is to be called... US Navy for example.
Move carrier to scenario start
Edit/Replace carrier with the one I want
Reset reference points if required
Add extra units to player side
Select "China" from the Sides and add opposing units
Select "Civilians" from the Sides and add civilian shipping
Select other countries if it's a complex scenario and add airbases and exclusion zones just to mess with the players tactics
Using events template change the weather every 3 hours or more and add METOC messages to alert the player of these changes
Perhaps use events creations template to spawn civilian shipping to add extra contacts half way through scenario
Keep repeating until scenario is complete

Hope that clears things up on how it was designed to be used, any other questions please ask as I hope this benefits a few people.
