if there's any info from me you need or for me to try something out let me know.

P.S. it'd be great if it was incorporated into the game[:)]

I don't think this is likely to happen any time soon. If another game in series is done, this might be possible.

Thanks
Rick

Okay, uninstalled the game and deleted the folder. Did a fresh install and updated through the game. Click on Campaign or Battle and select Random and game crashes to the desktop.

budd -> RE: random campaign problem (8/1/2014 2:26:55 AM)

sorry to hear that.. i feel your pain..... Do the stock campaigns and scenarios work? ..... hope so.

nelmsm1 -> RE: random campaign problem (8/1/2014 2:46:49 AM)

The stock campaigns and scenarios do work.

nelmsm,

You did a fresh install, then chose the Check for Update from the initial screen? Did it update?

After installing and updating, you chose Play. Then chose Set Battle.

Then you clicked on Random button. --- is this where it crashed to Desktop?

If so, can you check this post: http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/fb.asp?m=3486787
and follow that guidance.

Let me know either way if you would please.

Thanks
Rick

Budd,

I've spent a little time today revisiting this. I'll followup with you in next few days with some other things to try.

I'm trying to force mine to behave like yours.

Thanks
Rick

rickier65 -> RE: random campaign problem (8/6/2014 9:32:23 PM)

Budd,

I was able to replicate your problem on my system. I had to go into the registry and change the entry for htafile.

I then went back out and ran the Random Campaign Generator and had the same behavior you are having.

I went back into the Registry and edited the entry back to what it was, and was then able to run the Random Campaign Generator without any problems.

Let me know if you want to pursue this further.

Thanks
Rick

budd -> RE: random campaign problem (8/6/2014 11:53:04 PM)

pm'd you

give me the exact line you want on the value data line and i'll give it a spin. there's a pic with my pm response.

rickier65 -> RE: random campaign problem (8/7/2014 12:54:41 AM)

I'm usually very cautious about editing the Registry. I sent you a pm with image of what mine shows.

Make sure you are in the correct place in the registry
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
Subkey: SOFTWARE\Classes\htafile\Shell\Open\Command

Good luck!
Rick

budd -> RE: random campaign problem (8/7/2014 3:45:35 AM)

i look at the properties of the RCG HTA file and it still isn't associated with anything and i try to manually associate it with the 32 MSHTA.exe and no joy.

rickier65 -> RE: random campaign problem (8/7/2014 4:21:40 AM)

Can you open Control Panel --> Programs --> Default Programs --> and choose Associate a file type with a Specific program.

When you get to the list of file extensions, highlight .hta and press the CHange Program Button.

browse to your C:\Windows\SysWOW64 folder and find the mshta.exe. and select it.

do this with both PzCRBg.hta and PzCRCg.hta.

Thanks
Rick

budd -> RE: random campaign problem (8/7/2014 4:51:35 AM)

yea i've done that a few times. It just doesn't appear to be associating with it no matter what i do. After associating the RCG&RBG manually i'll go look at the property page of both files and it doesn't have the open with "whatever program" on the property page and the icon for both RCG&RBG never change.I tried the 32&64 MSHTA.exe files. Let keep this to pm's ... I'm getting dizzy[:D]

nelms, were you able to get your RCG or RBG working yet?

Thanks
rick

nelmsm1 -> RE: random campaign problem (8/10/2014 5:59:20 AM)

Just tried the link you included in your quoted reply, not sure how I missed that earlier, but I associated the two files like you said and it appears to work now.

Budd,

I think after a lot of perseverance on your part you did get your Random Campaign problem solved. Is it still working?

Thanks
Rick

budd -> RE: random campaign problem (8/10/2014 7:19:58 PM)

I haven't played one yet but it seems to generate them just fine now.

nelmsm1 -> RE: random campaign problem (8/10/2014 10:00:00 PM)

Okay, tried to start a random campaign today, selected the 1st Panzer Division 43-44 short campaign and selected it. The random battle generator opens and when you close that I get a failed mesaage for the campaign. I only went as far last night to see that the random campaign/battle boxes opened up.

OK, This sounds like same issue that Budd had. There is a Registry entry that Budd edited that worked. Maybe if he sees this he'll post a pic to show you which entry he edited.

Thanks!
Rick

Can do

You can the see the path to this key at the bottom of the screen shot. All i did was add the %* at the end.

You can use the search function and search for mshta.exe, for me it was the first thing to come up.
It might be good to check the other mshta.exe under the other keys.

I just went through the registry again
\mshta.exe\shell\open\command - all my keys under this path had the %* except for the one i changed and that got it to work. Mine is using the 32, you might have the 64bit associated with yours. in that case it would sysWOW64 in the path instead of system32.

Leaving town for a few days in just a bit but you need to assume that I'm not that computer literate so you'll have to give me some step by step instructions on how to just get to where that snapshot was taken. I'll be back on Thursday and will check in.

budd -> RE: random campaign problem (8/11/2014 5:22:38 PM)

just remember its your computers registry you can royally F*ck things up. Just change one thing at a time.

windows 7 ...right
i'll be back with some pictures

budd -> RE: random campaign problem (8/11/2014 5:34:48 PM)

first off don't know if you have your run command showing. Here's how to add this to the start menu. If you already have it showing you can skip this.

Okay, I'm missing the %* part but how do I edit the string?

Never mind, figured it out and now it appears to work just like it's supposed to! Thanks for the assist on this. I'll buy the adult beverages if we ever cross paths.
