poaw -> New Scenario: The Five Powers, 2020 (7/10/2014 8:01:57 AM)

I tried my hand at a mid-sized air/surface scenario along with non-US forces. This is the result, your task is to discourage Chinese naval forces from expanding China's territorial ambitions into Malaysia's EEZ.

This will involve missiles.

Any feedback is appreciated

Update 11-4-14: Added more helicopters to FPDA surface ships and fixed Chinese SAGs not firing AShMs.
Update 1-18-15: After Almost 6 months sitting on my hard drive I'm finally happy with where this scenario is. Updated to current database, balance adjustments for new mechanics, a couple new events and improved game flow. Scenario complete.

Does "This will involve missiles" mean "This will make MMMs look puny"? [:D]

Cool idea! You definitively caught my attention for throwing New Zealend into the game against China[:D]!

Suggestions:

- Give the SAGs more helicopters. Of 14 ships, I only had two helos embarked.

- Maybe update ship platforms to latest versions?

- I think at least one replenishment/combat support ship should operate within the ANZAC SAG.

- For the realism: Singapore will most likely encounter threats like the PLAN in the South China Sea by using modern diesel subs like the Archer-class or the Type-218SG which will serve from 2020 onwards. Read here for more information.
I think it was intended to skip the subsurface battlefield so do with this fact whatever you want...

Regards! [8D]

Good work!

I liked it, maybe expand on it abit with some ASW, but overall a great scenario.

-I meant to add more helos, but kept forgetting with each version.

-I'm pretty sure the latest version of the database is one being used and the ships involved are the latest versions available. Is there something specific that I missed?

-I try to avoid putting in units that wouldn't have a purpose and in a scenario that only lasts 3 days savvy players would simply detach support vessels and have them hide away from the action to avoid any potential penalty for their loss.

-I really wanted to do ASW in this scenario, but the problem is scope creep and the amount of resources sonobouys use when I try to get the AI to intelligently protect itself from subsurface threats in prohibitive.

Coiler12 -> RE: New Scenario: The Five Powers, 2020 (7/11/2014 9:01:05 PM)

Played it. Liked it, but still have some criticisms:

(SPOILERS BELOW:)

First, my strategy was simple. Gain control of the air while consolidating all of my surface units into one big fleet. I did this, sailed the fleet north, took out the forward and OPV squadrons with air attacks, and then missiled before gunning the main body. No ship losses, although my planes were not so fortunate.

What worked well:
-The J-20s. Those were ferocious and successful when they worked.
-The setup. The way the fleets move has a lot of effective suspense to them.

What didn't work well:
-The H-6s seemed to be used weirdly. I'm not sure if the goal was to use them in dribs and drabs as MPAs or if it was an error (inability to positively ID?), but they kept coming in one at a time and getting shot down. A strike of three finally came, but by that time I'd consolidated the fleet and destroyed the missiles easily.

-For some reason, even though I kept awaiting the Chinese missile salvo, it never actually came. I made several saves and could see if one was there that showed this, but even with my ships nearby and emitting, they didn't actually fire. Closing to gun range didn't prompt a return fire and they never sped up, only firing defensively against my missiles.

-The scenario seemed a little too long, although maybe that was because I jumped the gun and rushed north rather than letting them come to me.

I actually just fixed that. It was a problem with the prosecution zones.
