TSkoopCRP -> Ship missile resupply (7/19/2014 11:54:46 PM)

I like to the let the friendly AI do as much for me as possible, but I notice they liberally fire off missiles and many times I find my self out of critical self defense missiles. I read some threads out using the unrep command to replenish ships if replenishment ships are nearby, but it only works if the specific stores are on board the replenishment vessel's magazine.

So after testing this in the editor, if I want to resupply all the ESSM missiles to the DDGs of a carrier battle group, do I have to individually add all the weapons I might want to replenish ? Seems tedious.

Is there an easier way of doing this ?

Reloading of missile while at sea has been tested by the USN in the past, but was judged as "too much of pain" so it never actually happens in real likf.

That's probably why you can't do it in CMANO.

You can do it in command, I did a test. You just have to have the specific weapon in the magazine of the replenishment ship and click on unrep. It's just tedious to set this up. Just wish it could happen automatically by just adding replenishment ships to the formation. I guess it doesn't happen at sea very often, like you said. Might have to look into having a land supply base instead, or I bet a event in the editor where the ships retreat to a zone and the resupply just happens after several hours.

probably shouldn't be allowed on later model VLS-equipped ships. IIRC, the ship-board equipment (crane) needed to reload a VLS battery whilst underway was removed in the 80's. Too difficult to do at sea.

ExNusquam -> RE: Ship missile resupply (7/23/2014 5:02:25 PM)

I posted a link to sources on that a while ago...

The early VLS systems were either 61 or 29 cells. This was because 3 cells were taken up by the reload crane. Moving missiles around using the crane while underway was dicey, and the Navy barely did in training. As such, the crane was removed from these ships (saves weight), but the cells were not retrofit to carry missiles. Later VLS systems have 32 or 64 cells available for missiles.

FYI - the Devs have alluded to the capability of port replenishment in the current build or certainly for an update.

If we're still discussing early model, VLS-equipped DDG's and CG's, it would be appropriate for some wep-recs, like gun ammo, and torpedoes. But IMHO, reloading SM-3's and Tomahawks wouldn't be realistic.

Reloading missiles in port wouldn't be realistic? Where would they be reloaded?

Ah, sorry, I misread. I thought you meant loading to port-side, as opposed to starboard side... of the ship.[:D] I see "port", and I think in naval parlance.

LOL! [:D]
