fogger -> RE: Field Marshal Fogger vs Marshal Fulkerson (again) (10/15/2014 1:42:47 PM)

Have got Larry's turn back and am have started on my turn. The southern part of the Stalin line is now in a pocket and being covered by my inf & arty units. I have broken in to the covering line to the east and also jumped the river behind the line he was builting. I have also jumped the river to the north with the aim of getting behind the northern end of the Stalin line. If only my Inf would keep up.

John is moving closer to Pskov and soon the battle will start for the entrance to the highway to Leningrad. I've given up trying to defend
the city. John has activated the Finns and caught me off guard and he's going to own the city in a couple of turns so defending it here
doesn't make a whole lot of sense. But I do want to delay John's advance. I haven't even started building the front lines in front of
Moscow so I need to buy a whole lot of time for that. Say three turns at least. Without that the front lines won't be ready in time.

John has leaped across the river and defeated my roadblock around the north end of the Stalin Line. Now there's nothing holding
back anymore. He's going to own Kiev in about 10 turns. Maybe.

There's a lot of drama going on around the Odessa river crossings. Lots of pressure and so far the Soviets are holding. So far so good.

The bottom end of the Stalin line is in a pocket and being destroyed in detail. The northern end is in the precess of being pocketed. A lot depends on if Larry tries to break and run. To the east of the southern end of the Stalin line I am also in the process of creating another pocket. Again it depends on if Larry tries to break and run. If does not then another 6 ddiv's go into the bag.

The Leningrad front close up. Don't believe Larry. I think he will defend. Already he is building a line to the north of the city. Another 3 divisions and the line will be complete. So once the line is complete my task becomes very hard as I do not have any armour or heavy arty in this area. I may have to move some from the main theatre of operation.

John acts like a simple line across the isthmuth there will impede him somehow. He doesn't know that the defenders there are simple
civilians drafted to dig tank ditches and put up baracades not to fire a rifle and they haven't been given any training to speak of and the
few who volunteer to bring their own weapons are given charge of "guarding" the patriots so make sure they extend the appropriate
level of dedication to their tasks and to prevent deserters. There aren't many NKVD troops around these days so armed civilians are
the next best choice. But the proficiency of those defenders north of the city is in the 20's and couldn't and shouldn't be expected to
hold a position on the front line. But they might delay the attackers for maybe half a turn. Tops.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Field Marshal Fogger vs Marshal Fulkerson (again) (10/16/2014 9:58:00 AM)

Here's an example where the scenario designers had a lack of units or wanted few units or something and lumped the ground support
and bombers in with the fighters. That's like mixing corn w/ green beans and calling it a salad. You can't use the fighters on air
support because the bombers will get shot down. You CAN however use the squadron for ground support because the fighters will
act as a built in ( organic ) escort section. So that's how I will use them I guess.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Field Marshal Fogger vs Marshal Fulkerson (again) (10/16/2014 10:16:28 AM)

I received about 8 reconstituted squadrons this turn and I've got them parked at Moscow resting. The rest of them were sufficiently
high in readinesss that I deployed them at the front. These are the missions of the squadrons and their conditions. Most of them are
in the green and that's a good thing. I'm flying them w/ a one-dot setting because of the extremely low proficiency of these units. Trying
to fly them w/ two-dots or higher will just get them slaughtered.

This is Ron's Mod version 1.1.10 of the original FITE game and yes I'm guessing that if anybody wants to "fix" it then it will be in
development again. I don't know anybody working on it anymore. I've seen posts on the forum that say that FITE2 is being tested
and is being developed and Steve Sill and I are working on 3GW ( three German Words ) which is a smaller version of FITE and
so there's a lot of interest in this subject.

War of the West is coming out soon.

Zovs -> RE: Field Marshal Fogger vs Marshal Fulkerson (again) (10/16/2014 4:52:25 PM)

Thanks Larry.

Yes, I have also seen the development threads/emails for FITE2. And also have seen the news about WitW as well.

Thanks for letting me know what your playing and which version.

Don.

Here's what Odessa looks like now. It seems that John has gained one of the river crossings near Odessa and is going to take
advantage of it next turn. So it looks like John has defeated my river-side defense and I'll have to start falling back to the next river to
the east.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Field Marshal Fogger vs Marshal Fulkerson (again) (10/17/2014 6:32:34 PM)

Here's the situation at Pskov. John is approaching my front lines and has probed w/ his recon and I expect my defenders to be under
attack soon. And there's no more troops handy to defend with. I expect this strong point to be defeated within a couple of turns.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Field Marshal Fogger vs Marshal Fulkerson (again) (10/17/2014 6:46:56 PM)

John is also approaching my defenders at the NE end of the marshes. I'm lining up troops along the river and I own all the crossings
so there's not much else to do except dig in and wait. The troops in this area have been static for a couple of turns now and they are
filling up with replacements and gaining their proficiency again. I expect this river crossing to be defeated in a couple of turns as well.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Field Marshal Fogger vs Marshal Fulkerson (again) (10/17/2014 6:50:57 PM)

I moved my planes to the forward positions they need to hit targets and John has been striking them. This is how the air war is going
right now. My planes are falling out of the sky but I'm causing Axis losses as well.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Field Marshal Fogger vs Marshal Fulkerson (again) (10/17/2014 6:59:37 PM)

I've been calling the area between the Dvina and Dnepr rivers the landbridge and here's what it looks like now. I'm backing up the
troops with some arty and a couple of HQ's and I think maybe I'm ready here finally. I'm hoping I can hold the front line still for a turn
or two. Buy some time for the troops to get organized west of Moscow where there should be another front line getting ready.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Field Marshal Fogger vs Marshal Fulkerson (again) (10/17/2014 7:09:21 PM)

I was in the process of attaching the attached image when the thought occurred to me that my Moscow defenders are in the wrong
positions. This is Moscow now-a-days and I've arranged the drafted civilians in a sort of roadbump to the west of Moscow and I'm
thinking NOW that maybe I should arrange them into a ring around Moscow instead. But on the other hand they are building up the
fortification levels when they dig in and I can replace them with the troops moving this way from the east. I always appreciate a prepared
position when I'm taking over responsibility for a mission.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Field Marshal Fogger vs Marshal Fulkerson (again) (10/17/2014 7:20:56 PM)

This is a close-up of the area just south of the Pskov area to the NE of the marshes and you can see how John has advanced up almost
to the light screen I have erected here. I don't expect these troops to hold their positions, I'm more hoping that mopping them up will
hang up the Axis infantry for a turn or two. It's either that or cut and run to the east with them and Axis interdiction is terrific. I've seen
units get interdicted for a third time before it arrived at it's destination. Maybe that helps explain some of the Axis air losses. I'm moving
troops from the east westward and they are going to need a turn or two of rest before they should be committed to combat and that
probably means that I need another four turns or so before I can attempt to get the final front line ready; that will be turn 10 or so and
after that I'll be toe-to-toe w/ the Axis forces. Probably. Odessa has already started to fall since the Axis dudes are on the river crossing
they need. Axis forces are entering the road going north to the isthmus by the Baltic Sea and Leningrad will fall soon thereafter. So
now you know as much as I do.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Field Marshal Fogger vs Marshal Fulkerson (again) (10/17/2014 7:28:33 PM)

This is the area where the Stalin Line used to be. John has outflanked both ends broken through in the middle and is in the process
of wrapping it up as a package. All that is left really is the mop-up. And the worse part is that it's only turn 6 already. John is ahead
of schedule I think. Good for him.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Field Marshal Fogger vs Marshal Fulkerson (again) (10/17/2014 7:34:10 PM)

Here's the condition of the airplanes now. As you can see they are mostly yellow and orange. And they were in the green just a turn
ago. The air war must be terrific. That and the airfield strikes John has been conducting. I'm going to have to pull them back again
until I get a lot more reinforcements. And they are coming in future turns.

EDIT: These are the missions the were last assigned and this shot is before I moved anybody or changed anything. They will probably
all be moved to the Moscow area and put on bed rest for maybe two turns or so before they might turn green again. They need refit
and soon.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Field Marshal Fogger vs Marshal Fulkerson (again) (10/17/2014 7:42:52 PM)

Here's the south end of the Stalin Line and you can see how John has crossed the river to the rear areas already so the defenders
to the south of there are threatened and should probably cut and run but even though I've given the order to displace they are stubborn
and fanatical and refused to move. They said that mother Russia is worth them staying and delaying the Axis advance. I said that I
would put them in for the Lenin Star of Valor. But even though they agreed to stay and fight that won't help build another front line to
the southwest any faster. I need the Axis to be hung up here for more turns than their sacrifice will buy. John is moving like the wind
and it shows.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Field Marshal Fogger vs Marshal Fulkerson (again) (10/17/2014 7:50:15 PM)

Here's the north end of the Stalin Line now. John has broken through and my front line is crumbling here. I'm badly outnumbered and
falling back is out of the question when he can chase w/ Panzers and motorized units. These troops are as good as gone already.
They will last one more turn, maybe.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Field Marshal Fogger vs Marshal Fulkerson (again) (10/17/2014 8:02:57 PM)

Have I shown you the area just south of Pskov yet? This is that makeshift front line that I formed from units that had to displace when
the Axis leaped the river further to the north and outflanked the Soviets. It was pull up stakes and run or be enveloped. I don't expect
these troops to hold up the Axis advance very much. Think of them as roadbumps.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Field Marshal Fogger vs Marshal Fulkerson (again) (10/17/2014 8:14:09 PM)

This is the area just north of Leningrad and I've only just now finished building a line across the land. I used the best terrain I could and
I'm hoping this will hold up the Axis for a bit but the Murmansk area and just south of there have fallen already and Murmansk itself will
eventually fall I'm guessing. Archangel is a goner for sure, as the Finns will probably venture that far eventually. I'm thinking I'll wrap
Moscow with defenders and wait for winter when my boys will turn the tide.

Have started on turn 7. Minsk has fallen and just to the north I have been able to feed 2 panzer divisions across the Dvina river into Larry's rear area.
