Any comments welcome. A Royal Navy with HMS Ark Royal still in service. Royal Navy objective to get the troop ship Canberra to San Carlos water without losing Ark Royal.

-Clear the message logs. They were cluttered in my playthrough.
-This entails going to every mission, but turning "Scrub mission if side is human" on for all of them means the player doesn't have to manually turn all of them off if they want to do something different.
-Gameplay wise, the fleets seemed to start too close to each other given the time span of the scenario.

Thanks for the advice. I'm new to this[:)]

I'm also finding it tricky to get events to trigger point scoring correctly plus the messages displayed when scenario is complete is rather poor. I'm sure there must be a better way.


I have uploaded a revision which incorporates your suggestions. I have set scrub missions when human although it doesn't seem to work properly.

Great scenario, but EXPAND!
In that time the RN had 3 carriers. HMS Ark Royal, HMS Hermes and HMS Bulwark. Maybe have one under refit but I would use one. Also if you set it out exactly the same as the 1982 scenario but with added carriers I feel it would be improved.

Hi guys,
correct as for three Carriers Ark Royal was still configured as a Strike Carrier, Hermes and Bulwark were re-roled as ASW and Amphibious Carriers but didnt have Cats and Traps

Some minor tweaks following feedback. Argentinian ships more aggressive in UI mode (I think!)

Fair enough on the carriers. A few ship suggestions:

HMS Bristol

ARA Nueve de Julio (C-5) (Decommissioned 1979)

I think these would spic it up. Also maybe the Argentines could fly pucaras out of port Stanley. All in this is a great scenario, I love the old 1970's RN scenarios.

SA-2 and I-Hawk at the base on the Argentina mainland seems a bit unrealistic? and the same with all the different mixture of AA guns? If you have a look here:

Good point and thanks for your comment. I will change that, the SAM/AA is based on the default for the airfield. I plan to do some more work on the Argentinian side.

Falklands 78 Description:
In May 1978 the UK government revealed to the British parliament that the island of Southern Thule (part of the Sandwich Islands) had been occupied by Argentina in late 1976 by so called "technicians". Soon afterwards, Argentinian warships fired on British ships and Argentina broke a communications agreement with the United Kingdom. This caused outrage in the United Kingdom leading to the collapse of the government due to its initial weak response to the crisis.

In June 1978, Argentina invaded the Islas Malvinas (Falkland Islands) taking advantage of the chaos in London. On June 6th the small marine detachment in Port Stanley was quickly overwhelmed and the Governor surrendered to the Argentinian commander.

What happened next took Argentina by surprise. A new British Government was quickly elected with a clear remit to counter Argentinian aggression. In September, the United Kingdom dispatched a Task Force to re-occupy the islands by force if necessary.

The United Kingdom was alone with an objective 8000 miles from home ports. The United States remained neutral and indeed to a degree hostile to British interests.

Thankfully for the Royal Navy, the aircraft carrier HMS Ark Royal had received a refit and was still in service. Fortunately for Argentina, she had taken early delivery of exocet sea skimming missile equipped aircraft (Super Etendards) and had recently increased the strength of its air force.

Objective for the United Kingdom is for Royal Navy Task Force Z to reach San Carlos water with the cruise liner (troop ship) Canberra intact and without losing HMS Ark Royal (carrier).

Objective for Argentina is to prevent the above.

A few glitches:
1. for some reason any A-4s that take off from the Argentine carrier automatically reassign themselves to the land base, thus they bingo very early.
2. The new cruiser C-5 for some reason keeps freezing due to a glitch with the fuel

I have attached revised scenario which takes into account your comments.

The C-5 cruiser had a very low fuel store, I have got round this by making C5 the same as the General Belgrano - a fudge but it works

The Skyhawks on the carrier were incorrectly assigned to strikes from the land base, this caused the bingo issue. I have sorted that too.

A few more things:

Argentina only had 1 type 42 in 1978, the Hercules

HMS Churchill is pretty much useless in this scenario, ive played RN about 4 times, only ever sunk 1 ship.

Some Argentine planes never get within striking distance, especially when the AI is involved.



Some flavour notes:
Maybe add a few more civilian ships in the amphib group.
Maybe move the Fearless and Sir Lancelot to the amphib group.

Also I would recommend changing the f-4s to the heavy loadout given the large amount of Argentine Aircraft.

Tried as Royal Navy, its interesting but needs quite a few adjustments am afraid.
The biggest by far is Ark Royal has barely enough ammo to keep your air patrols active for long. its a long scenario and I think I'd lost all CAP by the first few hours. The Phantom's were OK just sat on the deck with no available air to air missiles.
I managed one Buccaneer strike on the CV which may have sunk given time.
Stanley is named Group 940 or something like that, just needs renaming.
All aircraft I think are available rather than some in reserve?
The civilian side doesn't move I don't think?
The Argentine ships probably need paths plotted to get through the channel, they wandered off and got caught up near the landing zone.

With a few adjustments this is a good what if scenario with some unusual forces available.

Maybe also have the Argentines in two task forces rather than 3 as happened in real life. Also and Idea for another scenario, Falklands 1984. Essentially only 1 carrier HMS Illustrious and no LPD's or Royal Marines, it would of been a slaughter.

Hi All, thanks for your comments. I have picked up on Flankerk's suggestions.

Latest adjusted scenario attached, triggered me in to learning about reserves/maintenance. I have just bought a 2nd hand copy of Janes All the Worlds Warships circa 1986-87 for £10 off ebay. Very informative. I recommend you get one similar yourselves!

Re 1984 - good point. RN would have had more seawolf equipped ships but air cover would have been poor and the results may well have been catastrophic for the RN.

Struggling as RN to be truthful.
Try as I might I couldn't get Churchill to get in an attack, its shallow water and the straight runners are to say the least difficult.
The big issue though is with the air war. I sank the CV and the combat air patrols were fine for a bit. However there aren't that many Phantom's and the turn round time looks to be two hours.
That meant that for long periods I had no aircraft up at all.
I then was hit by large waves of strike aircraft and soon was relying on guns. To all intents and purposes the battle was then lost.

Not sure what others have found? On the face of it an easy win for Argentine side.
