I got to looking at the CV's formation and discovered that even though all three carriers have been sunk there's two more coming in
the future. In turn 61 and again in turn 104. So I've got that to look forward to.

EDIT: I got a better look at the image I'm posting and I notice that the thing that happens in turn 104 is the different bomb group
coming on line. No CV that turn. D'oh. Oh well, I'll just have to make do.

I thought I'd best check the expected reinforcements to see what ships arrive when and found a carrier coming online in T37.

I checked the inventory and found something interesting. I still have some broken BB's, CA's, CL's, and DD's that I can impress
into service. Some of them. So all is not lost yet.

Here's the losses in planes so far:

I've noticed that there's only two Soviet formations still in Reserve status and the rest of them are ready for orders. I can move them
and attack with them. I have no idea what caused it. My theory is that one of your ships drove past one of the Soviet units on some
isolated island somewhere on the way to Alaska and woke it up from it's garrison mode or something.

Note to Thomas:
Here's a list of the Soviet stuff and which one is doing what.

There's a little town in Cambodia called Paxe and I just happened to manage to drop the bridge over the Mekong river between
Cambodia and Vietnam at Paxe. I've flown over the place many times.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Playtest of Pacific at War 3 25 14 (1/30/2015 7:08:59 AM)

Here's a T30 overview. I still haven't decided where to start to fight back. I'm having some good luck getting land combat units to
China and I'm thinking maybe I can start an offensive to take back Indochina or south China.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Playtest of Pacific at War 3 25 14 (1/30/2015 12:36:17 PM)

New moves from Tom, new turn. Here's news from northern China. Tom dropped some paratroopers behind my lines and cut
off Allied people from their supply and he's attacking to destroy them. D'oh. I haven't gotten any American units that far north
yet so there's not much I can do about it. This threatens to unblock the stoppage and restart the Jap advance.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Playtest of Pacific at War 3 25 14 (1/30/2015 12:41:08 PM)

Here's the face of the Burma front. And south China. I think maybe Burma is safe now that I have some American units on the
line. Now to try to regain the Burma road somehow. I've gotten some engineers on the east side of the river and now all I need
is some divisions to leapfrog across the river into the Jap rear areas.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Playtest of Pacific at War 3 25 14 (1/30/2015 1:10:17 PM)

All the defenders at Dutch Harbor were defeated and the hex is empty now. I didn't have much chance of getting another
defender into the hex because of all the Jap ships around it. So I'm guessing it's going to fall next turn.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Playtest of Pacific at War 3 25 14 (1/31/2015 6:07:44 AM)

Here's the current picture of the Burma area. The Japs are attempting a cross-river assault and I'm trying to force it back. South
China is relatively stable and compared with the north China area is quiet.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Playtest of Pacific at War 3 25 14 (1/31/2015 6:17:14 AM)

Here's the south part of north China and includes the Chengtu area. The Japs are trying to invade from North China by taking
the scenic route. So I had to send some troops up there to fight with them. The supply level is low up there so the fighting is in
slow motion.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Playtest of Pacific at War 3 25 14 (1/31/2015 6:58:53 AM)

I thought I'd take one of the TF's I have and one of the new Marine Divisions and try to take Guadacanal because it's August '42 and
that's when we took Guadacanal away from the Japs. My assault was costly but we did get ashore. Now I need to clear out the
rest of the island.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Playtest of Pacific at War 3 25 14 (1/31/2015 11:12:45 AM)

Here's what happens when you kick over a hornets nest. Thomas has reinforced Guadacanal and isolated the island with his
blockade. He's got the supply hex for the island so I'm out of supply and have no hope of getting the supply hex and so I'm
going to have to see if I can't blast a path for the floaters to get them out of there.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Playtest of Pacific at War 3 25 14 (1/31/2015 3:20:39 PM)

I lost a lot of ships but I did manage to blast a path for the ground troops to float out of there, giving the island back to the
savages. I'm going to have to try it again obviously, but I need to remember to aim for the supply hex as the first goal. Also,
I'm looking at the bombing range of some SBD's and I'm seeing that I don't quite have the range to hit Guadacanal from Port
Moresby so I'm going to have to move in some B-24's to do this job.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Playtest of Pacific at War 3 25 14 (1/31/2015 4:38:41 PM)

Here's north China now. The Communist Chinese are in real trouble and the Japs are undoubtly going to march south after this

larryfulkerson -> RE: Playtest of Pacific at War 3 25 14 (1/31/2015 8:31:18 PM)

Tom took Ellis island right from under my nose. And I'm outnumbered in ships so I dare not reply. D'oh. One wonders if Tom is
going to continue south to Fiji.

Here's a screengrab during the playback of Thomas taking Phoenix island. He surrounded it, attacked it, and walked ashore. Easy
as pie.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Playtest of Pacific at War 3 25 14 (2/1/2015 3:30:51 AM)

It's almost all over in north China. The destruction of those two Communist Chinese units will release a bunch more Jap units to
head south. This is going to be a long war.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Playtest of Pacific at War 3 25 14 (2/1/2015 3:41:19 AM)

I think I may have shortened the war by about an hour. I dropped some paratroops on the bridge between north and south China
and dropped it. Now there's only a handful of bridges to come across. It seemed like a good idea at the time.

I just got some new moves from Thomas and I watched the replay just now and watched him take the island Viti Levu. I'm going to
eventually have to take it back.....maybe. Maybe I can make a thrust up the middle of the pacific instead and skip all the Rabaul
islands entirely.

Here's a close up of the aforementioned island. I'm tasking all my planes to do suicide runs on one of Tom's aircraft carrier groups.
I don't expect to get very good results though because of the lack of fighters in the strike.

Here's the results of that strike. I think maybe I sank the Kaga.

The area between north and south China is unstable and looks ready to fail.

Chattez -> RE: Playtest of Pacific at War 3 25 14 (2/1/2015 3:03:27 PM)

If you got the Kaga, that's great!

The control of the Pacific depends on 10 ships: the Japanese carriers. Once they are sunk,
you can go anywhere you like, and the Japanese will be hobbled and unable to advance.

And, unlike the US, the Japanese get few new carriers, and mostly only late in the war, when it is too late to do any good.

Nothing stops the Japanese advance except sinking their carriers.

tcarusil -> RE: Playtest of Pacific at War 3 25 14 (2/1/2015 5:15:47 PM)

Am I correct that this scenario does not work with the public version of TOAW? In other words you need to have the unreleased beta to enjoy this.

Thomas tells me via email that I got the Kaga and another one that starts with the letter "A" that I can't remember the name
of right now. So it seems like the game has changed. I will have a carrier in T61 and Tom won't so I can start sinking ships
sometime soon after that.

Thomas and I have played this scenario using both exe's and it's doable with either but the game is remarkably different with
the new Naval Rules. And yes, the new Naval Rules come with the new beta version. Sorry about that. I'm hoping that doing an
AAR using the new beta will ENCOURAGE Matrix to make a decision about releasing something soon.

tcarusil -> RE: Playtest of Pacific at War 3 25 14 (2/1/2015 10:28:06 PM)

Tried to us 3xBb, but could not get the scenario to show up in the list of available scenarios. Must be doing something wrong.

I hope Matrix gets the hint and releases the "new" version soon.
