Tom has made landings at Rabaul, Bouganville, and New Georgia. So I moved some troops to Guadacanal. I know we
weren't supposed to land on Guadacanal until August sometime but I thought I'd do it while I still could. The problem is
going to be holding it.

Here's what Pearl looks like now. There's a lot of land combat troops that need to be moved somewhere. But there's not enough
shipping to get them into the field quickly. I need to plan ahead for these moves.

Okie dokie........I found proof that the T1 Pearl Strikes sank 5 BB's and a DD squadron. Maybe we ought to turn on the logs to
get the battle info to each other.

note to Tom: just FYI, the Dauntless is a Navy aircraft, carrier capable,etc. so I'm guessing that the icon should be
blue instead of green. Or maybe you need that formation to be where it is and it just has the wrong equipment,
the wrong aircraft type. Maybe they should be A-20's instead?

Here's what Rangoon looks like now. I'm rushing some Indian divisions down the coastal road and across the river and into the
fight. The Japs are landing troops on the west coast of Malaya and that's upsetting my defensive plans. He's trying to cut them
off from their supply probably. I'll need to back those guys out of there pretty quickly now.

Here's the Celebes now. Tom has invaded bases having airfields mostly and has introduced Jap air power into the AO in
enough places to threaten Java already. I've no air power down there and they need it right now.

I moved a TBF group to Guadacanal and was delighted to see that Rabaul is within range. So I can watch for ships from the dirt
strip in the jungle. I've seen a lot of traffic headed toward Singapore but very little down in the SW Pacific.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Playtest of Pacific at War 3 25 14 (1/3/2015 3:34:27 AM)

Here's how the game engine computes the air war now. Actually the values don't really mean what they say they mean since
the air superiority values vary widely from one area to another. China is different from the SW Pacific. So I'm using this air
war display as just a very rough guess from the game engine.

The 27th Bomb Group was assigned the Dauntless but they did not arrive prior to the arrival of the Japanese in the Philippines. They eventually got them and then later obtained A-20 aircraft. I thought it better to leave the unit with the Dauntless.

Just looks weird.......an Army group flying Navy planes.

The Prince of Wales got a BB reinforcement recently. Now if it was only more refit than it is.

I sailed an Australian division from Darwin or someplace and intended to drive into Singapore but I found the passage blocked
by Jap ships so I went around Sumatra and found the passage blocked again so I thought I'd try for the port on the west side
of Malaya and what do you know, I got ashore.

Here's Tom assaulting Rangoon. If he captures the city then all my troops on the east side of the river will be cut off
from their supply. D'oh.

There's not much left in the units at Rangoon. One more good attack and they will fold. D'oh. I'm going to have to see if I can't
get somebody to help them out.

Here's south China now. My Chinese boys are getting tired and Tom is pushing them around. They are falling back and losing
ground.

thomasharvey -> RE: Playtest of Pacific at War 3 25 14 (1/3/2015 7:49:20 AM)

I had two strikes against Pearl Harbor. The first strike hit 2 BBs which was the same as the historical result. That was not good enough so I sent the aircraft a second time despite losses to flak and got the other 3 BBs along with many DDs. The Japanese ships then withdrew into the mist.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Playtest of Pacific at War 3 25 14 (1/3/2015 9:11:32 PM)

Tom sailed some more people to Rangoon and captured the city. D'oh. And all my people east of the river are comitted to their
fights and can't come to the rescue.

Tom landed some troops at Brunei on Borneo. The first step to world domination.

Tom has also landed some troops in Sumatra. Palembang was invested by some Jap paratroopers. Padang is under assault.

Have I mentioned yet that John has invaded the Celebes? And he's moved in some air power and there's still some ships nearby.
I don't have any anti-ship aircraft handy so I'll have to find some and fly it in here. And some fighters for air cover.

Here's what south China looks like now. I'm trying to prevent the Japs from using the railroad and to damage it if possible and
I think maybe I've done that. Now maybe it's time to back my dudes out of there and try to save some people.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Playtest of Pacific at War 3 25 14 (1/4/2015 10:30:24 AM)

I found an Allied fighter aircraft unit that had some Mohawk's and some P-40's and was authorized some P-38's but didn't have
any yet and I was wondering when the P-38's would start to show up ( turn 109+ ) and I found out that I had lost some PBY's
and I wasn't aware of that. There was no combat result that I remember seeing that listed any PBY's. So........?? I guess they
are lost during the inter-turn phase when random air missions are flown and losses are taken. Or something.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Playtest of Pacific at War 3 25 14 (1/4/2015 10:49:54 AM)

From what I've read, past tense, the Cactus Air Force operated off a dirt strip carved out of the jungle at Guadacanal and it
didn't get paved until much later in the war. In other words, you could probably fit a C-47 between the trees but I'm not sure
B-17's could operate from Guadacanal. Having said that I'm moving a B-17 group there. It's got the range to pester a lot of
the important islands around Rabaul. It'll be turn 109 or so before any P-38's will start to show up on the front lines and it'll
be then that fighters will have the range to escort the bombers from the nearby bases like Guadacanal. I'll have to move the
B-17's further away if the Jap fighters start doing airfield strikes. I've got some fighters at Guadacanal but I'd really rather not
lose any bombers if I can avoid it. Moving them to a forward airfield like this is risky.

EDIT: Oh, yeah, I was going to say something about the bombers authorized but not present in the aircraft unit featured. It
will be turn 34 or so before the B-24's and late model B-17's start to show up at the front lines.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Playtest of Pacific at War 3 25 14 (1/4/2015 10:59:55 AM)

I've got a couple of B-18 units that are delegated to do training in an out of the way area like the Aleutians. One for two each of
the islands up there. I don't expect them to do much. I'm wondering if I can put them on rest status and still get some recon out
of them.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Playtest of Pacific at War 3 25 14 (1/4/2015 11:06:20 AM)

Now that most of the Indian Corps are trapped on the east side of the river and Tom has captured Rangoon there's nothing to keep
him from moving north along the coast into Burma and into India. So I'm thrashing around trying to find things that might help out
the situation and I thought maybe some airpower might help so I moved some B-17's from Australia into India so that it might fly CS
missions and maybe some INT when the Japs start their move.

Here's the results of an air strike from Port Moresby. I find it curious that the Allied planes were jumped by the Japs and yet a lot of
the Zero's were lost and not the Claude's. Because Claude's are inferior to Zero's. I thought. I'll have to look into that.

Here's the information that WITP-Tracker gives for the Claude and the Zero in the WITP-AE game.

thomasharvey -> RE: Playtest of Pacific at War 3 25 14 (1/4/2015 4:31:18 PM)

The air battle resulting in more Zero loses than claudes may be explained by the longer range of the Zero and that there were twice as many Zeros in the fight. Some air units have different types of aircraft with different ranges. I have Kates with a range of 20 and Vals with a range of 14 in the same air unit operating off of carriers. I have to make sure I am within 14 hexes of the target or the Vals may not hit any ships. They may still get shot down but not as much because they are further back than the Kates may be. It is all complex with different ranges of attacking and defending aircraft. They don't all show up in the same hex at the same time to do the battle unless they all have the range to make it to the target hex. One thing however, all this is assumption on my part based on years of experience and also theory. I really have no idea!

larryfulkerson -> RE: Playtest of Pacific at War 3 25 14 (1/4/2015 5:22:08 PM)

Here's what Malaya looks like now. The Allies are effectively beaten at this point. Just one division holding the port of Singapore
is all that's left to defend. It's just a matter of time now.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Playtest of Pacific at War 3 25 14 (1/4/2015 5:26:19 PM)

Here's what Rangoon looks like now. A significant portion of the Indian Army is on the east side of the river so there's not
much left to prevent the Japs from marching north along the coastal road into India.
