From what I've read, past tense, the Cactus Air Force operated off a dirt strip carved out of the jungle at Guadacanal and it didn't get paved until much later in the war. In other words, you could probably fit a C-47 between the trees but I'm not sure B-17's could operate from Guadacanal. Having said that I'm moving a B-17 group there. It's got the range to pester a lot of the important islands around Rabaul. It'll be turn 109 or so before any P-38's will start to show up on the front lines and it'll be then that fighters will have the range to escort the bombers from the nearby bases like Guadacanal. I'll have to move the B-17's further away if the Jap fighters start doing airfield strikes. I've got some fighters at Guadacanal but I'd really rather not lose any bombers if I can avoid it. Moving them to a forward airfield like this is risky. EDIT: Oh, yeah, I was going to say something about the bombers authorized but not present in the aircraft unit featured. It will be turn 34 or so before the B-24's and late model B-17's start to show up at the front lines. [image]local://upfiles/16287/FCB5422CBEDD4F9B8B568DF8AD2D8B9D.gif[/image]
