Cap Mandrake -> RE: At dawn we slept.....in the cab on the way back from Olongapo (1/23/2015 10:38:23 PM)

The USN carriers take a few minutes to put up their feet and the WJD are all over the place.

Rabaul: The night skirmish at Rabaul. I think both sides scared each other with star shells.

Night Time Surface Combat, near Rabaul at 106,125, Range 10,000 Yards

Japanese Ships
DD Yayoi
DD Uzuki
DD Mochizuki
DD Yuzuki
DD Oite
DD Yunagi

Allied Ships
CA Australia
DD Stuart, Shell hits 1

JJ does not attack at Rabaul on the 21st. Neither does Australia get a chance to bombard.

Cap Mandrake -> RE: At dawn we slept.....in the cab on the way back from Olongapo (1/23/2015 10:47:38 PM)

Balikpapan: The town falls but at least we got some mileage out of the mines. There is cosmic justice in a minelayer falling prey to a mine.

TF 107 encounters mine field at Balikpapan (64,97)

Japanese Ships
DD Sanae
PB Keiko Maru
PB Busho Maru
CM Itsukushima, Mine hits 1, heavy damage

6 mines cleared

Cap Mandrake -> RE: At dawn we slept.....in the cab on the way back from Olongapo (1/23/2015 10:50:36 PM)

DEI: The KB is now 120 m SW of Pontianak, Borneo. They might be retiring or they might be covering a landing at Palembang (which appears imminent)

Cap Mandrake -> RE: At dawn we slept.....in the cab on the way back from Olongapo (1/23/2015 10:52:20 PM)

Hiryu and Soryu are gone and may have started back for repairs. The least damaged of the two could be available for operations lamost immediately. Kaga will likely need drydock after the torpedo hit.

Cap Mandrake -> RE: At dawn we slept.....in the cab on the way back from Olongapo (1/23/2015 10:58:28 PM)

The USN carriers have to go back to Townsville for fuel and then can return to the Rabaul area.

Cap Mandrake -> RE: At dawn we slept.....in the cab on the way back from Olongapo (1/24/2015 1:55:55 PM)

This would be wonderful news if Maya sank from her mine strike near Banjowangi (phonetic spelling) after chasing after helpless merchies in an obvious war crime.
Would also be very nice if the other bitchen' CA were sunk from her wounds with Repulse...but my heart has been broken so many times by Miss Fog'o'war that I am untrusting (someone check to see if this is really a word).

*********December 22, 3 days till Christmas**********

Rabaul: JJ sneaks in a SNLF coy by fast transport taffy.

Feni Islands? Sounds like one of the spice islands. Oh, wait, that would be the Fennel Islands. Oh..Hell..<goes to look it up>..ah, it's by New and Improved Northumberland..or whatever that island with Kavieng is called.

HMAS Australia had a full magazine so she was ordered to turn around and stop being a sissy. She is ordered to cover the AP evacuating the Diggers. We run into some WJD AKL doing something or other.

********Bar, Royal Hawaiian, Oahu, (Downstairs from FOB Penthouse)*******

FAM:Maker's, rocks please.

Barkeep: <turns to two other customers who seem oddly foreign and are curiously dressed in identical Hawaiian shirts with palm trees and native types riding outrigger canoes>
And you boys, what will you have?

Foreign looking fellow in Hawaiian shirt, #1: Prease to have-ah watah.

FAM: Water? Let me get you something? You aren't going to believe how cheap the drinks are here...but don't tell the management. Barkeep, bourbon for my friends. You boys like bourbon, don't you?

Foreign looking fellow in Hawaiian shirt, #1: Hai! That-ah word be dericious.

FAM: Splendid! Where are you boys from?

Foreign looking fellow in Hawaiian shirt, #2: AN-juh-res!

Foreign looking fellow in Hawaiian shirt, #1: <elbows other fellow> ROS ANGERES!

FAM: "Ros Angeres"...oh, you mean LA. Lived there for 3 years in a crappy apartment with
paper walls. One neighbor was a screamer. She would moan louder and louder for 15 minutes every Saturday, Wednesday and Friday night.
Some sort of exercise, I imagine. The other neighbor was from Alberta and insisted on warming up her
car in morning at 3000 revs for 20 minutes even when it was 70 degrees out.

Foreign looking fellow in Hawaiian shirt, #1: Hai! paper warhs.

FAM: <suddenly grabs temples in anguish>....Uhhh..I've just felt a great disturbance in the force.

That wasn't nice. Singers gone and no Honky Fidd, who's going to want a draft to the Far Flung now?
