The war isnt over yet. He still has a good chance at AV if things go his way.

Although, that is not my plan ;]

Plans for those "Emergency Reinforcements" are????

I would imagine they head for India, but just want to check.

Absolutely no plans yet. They are training and gaining experience and morale.

NJP is making motions like he is going to assault india but that would be stupid at this point IMO. I can defend anywhere I want. I have over 4000AV including the 18th division and the 6th Canadian. That means I have 1000AV+ including a tank regiment with 70+ exp.

In addition, I have the 2 Australian divisions (1 extra due to the emergency reinforcements) as backup and he has no idea where any of the reinforcements are but would have to take into account my ability to deploy them.

His carriers have been completely hidden for a while now. I am not making any major moves yet. Have just begun planning the summer offensive. Prep will begin soon for units.

I know he has the 4th and 21st division in Australia. He likely has 2-4 more as well. So that accounts for 1/3rd to 1/2 of his major assault forces. Landings and occupations have happened at the 2 southern cities on Luzon but he still has to take out manila as well as Singapore.

I am considering an canoerebelesque assault on Pegu and/or Brisbane early in the game. If I can get enough troops and supplies on shore in a surprise move then I may be able to cut off and kill a large portion of his troops.

What is happening now is I am moving search and support into the pacific to start building a perimeter to move forward from.

Having him on the east and south sides of Australia creates an interesting area north of New Zealand and of course Noumea, Pago Pago and the other islands he has taken will soon be within striking range.

NJP isnt done with his assault yet and I expect a surprise attack somewhere within the next 3 months. The strategic picture has not firmed up enough for me to confirm what major vector I plan to move on.

Upgraded subs take down a destroyer and harass a CA near Brisbane

NJP surrounds and forces the surrender of a good deal of troops at Adelaide :/

Mike McCreery -> RE: Groundhog Day! (3/22/2015 12:47:37 AM)

It appears that the attack along the northern route has failed and NJP has troops moving back toward Brisbane. Whether this is to skip over Sydney or to attack a city next to it or even move to the other side and add to the troops near Adelaide.

I think he is backing off after deciding that he does not have the troops to contest southeastern Australia in the Summer and Fall of 1942.

Mike McCreery -> RE: Groundhog Day! (3/23/2015 9:33:24 PM)

Tasmanian Devils can be unpredictable. Throwing a few wrenches to see if I can screw up at least part of his plan. This could fail miserably or turn out to be a great thing. The truth is likely somewhere in between.

The setup is that 2 merchant ships have been loaded with armor units destined for Tasmania. He has 2 units of about 120AV at Hobart and a naval guard unit on the island. Dont know what else but maybe I can catch an airforce or base force unit without cover. Ideally I will capture some or all of his supply requiring him to fight me.

On the flip side he may just sink what I have planned....

BBfanboy -> RE: Groundhog Day! (3/23/2015 10:36:50 PM)

Are there any warships covering those two merchies? He is bound to have subs in Bass Strait and mines in Launceston port. Maybe even some CD guns (the DP ones that some of the BFs have).

witpqs -> RE: Groundhog Day! (3/23/2015 10:37:42 PM)

But where do you plan to land them? From looking at that map you have only one option because merchants unload too slow.

Going for both Launceston and Burnie 1 unit each. Surprise is going to need to be on my side. Any significant forces and I am doomed :]

This is just harassment and to start him worrying about real attacks... The units have crap tanks and crap experience and if they die then they can be reborn and rebuilt in Sydney.

Mike McCreery -> RE: Groundhog Day! (3/24/2015 12:03:20 PM)

Weekend at Burnie's...

The initial attack went well. There are no troops at Burnie and about 1100 at Launceston. My surprise attack on Launceston appears to have taken out 21 zero's and put 55 hits on the runway. It is very likely he will move his planes and/or not try to attack from this location.

Threw a bunch of AM's in the mix. Hopefully in the confusion the troops can unload for at least one day. Not sure where his carriers are.

Hobart has about 200AV of stuff and secretly I am flying in parts of another US regiment. The place has 15K supply and good forts so I am going to press.

Why?

Because Tasmania is the absolute farthest place south that NJP can get on the map. Let him burn his supplies and fuel getting there and taking out a problem area for less than 200VP points and then lets see him hold it.

Also, I want his attention on southern Australia while operations occur elsewhere ;]

Sangeli -> RE: Groundhog Day! (3/24/2015 9:21:30 PM)

I think the strategy in Australia is to bomb and starve your garrisons at Melbourne and Sydney into submission but that's going to take time. Not a bad strategy overall I think but the advance into eastern India at the same time is VERY questionable. It's all open terrain and you have a good deal of units from the emergency reinforcements. And with Singapore still in Allied hands India is even more exposed; you could potentially bypass him with an amphibious attack at Pegu. It's definitely a risky move for you but as long as the Japanese are mirred in Australia, its going to be difficult for them to counter aggressive action on your part. NJP is just trying to do too much in this game I think.

He isnt bombing anyone in Australia and I still have over 1/2 a million supplies between the two bases. It will take 4-6 months to have an effect and he will have to blockade the whole sector for that entire time if he wants to keep all supplies out. I am not even trying to bring any in at this point.

He has 3-4 months before I can start bringing dangerous firepower into play.

I dont see it happening.

India is moving slowly, I am not sure where his stack is although he keeps scouting bases near Calcutta. It will take 2-3000 AV to make a difference and once he puts that much on the ground in one place I know that Bombay and Karachi are safe and can move troops guarding them to the front.

My problem is that I forget it is only April 1942 and keep chomping at the bit to fight.

Mike McCreery -> RE: Groundhog Day! (3/25/2015 11:35:34 AM)

Tasmania, Early May 1942

Forces knock the forts down to 0 at Launceston and the attack although 3-1 did not capture the base. Shock attack again next turn might do it if he doesnt figure out any counter.

At the very least my little action has uncovered 2 of his carrier fleets. Not sure if the 2nd one is the full KB or not. I would actually be surprised if it is. I am guessing this is MKB 1 & 2 and the full KB is somewhere else lurking.

I got scared and bailed the merchants back to Melbourne last turn so the attacks his carriers made sunk a couple AM's.

Even the fuel he used to get into position to attack my ships when he is so far southwest of Australia is a boon to me.

On the other side of the world an infantry division has landed on Christmas island. I have a regiment at Palmyra and he will have to work to take the line islands if that is his intention.

I think you have to save the picture as a JPEG and then upload it to the site to be included with your signature.
Try this one!

EDIT: I moved your URL from your signature line to the quote area and it worked. I guess the system does not load pictures from off-site in your signature area.

So, close to a week has gone by with the skirmishing on Tasmania.

Today I managed to bag a bunch of his transports in port. wee!!!

WARNING... THE FOLLOWING PIC MAY MAKE JFB'S CRY...

For some reason I like killing these better than killing cruisers :]

Gained about 50 points in the last turn I am guessing mostly from sunk ships including the AO which made dying sounds immediately after the torpedo attack.

And where you find the big, fast AO's you are likely to find .... (I'll give you a hint - it starts with a K and ends with a B )

The way your luck has turned I expect to see a carrier in your next periscope view. [:D]

The KB is and was down by Tasmania. In fact he had to use his dive bombers to suppress my armor units at Launceston. Using his navy over dirt is something that NJP rarely does. He killed a few AM's but didnt get the transports.

I thought he was backing off but it appears as if he is digging in. He has captured Canton, Baker, Pago Pago, etc. However, most of the dot bases remain mine and if he keeps screwing around near Australia I am going to start moving out faster than originally planned.

His chances of a VP win are decreasing IMO and the fact that he has decided to keep himself so spread out is not going to go well for him in 1943.

May 16, 1942

Here is the Global Map. Barring an invasion of New Zealand I am not sure how much farther the Japanese lines could be stretched on the map.

Mike McCreery -> RE: Groundhog Day! (3/29/2015 2:20:13 PM)

My score continues to creep up incrementally. This is a good thing and probably why a careful Allied commander not need to worry about a 4-1 win in 1943. He lost 7 aircraft today to my 2 aircraft. That means he lost 26 adjusted points in attrition alone in one day.

Mike McCreery -> RE: Groundhog Day! (3/29/2015 4:06:41 PM)

Near the start of the war NJP mentioned that June and/or July would be pretty wild. I am still thinking he has something planned.

I have not seen his cruisers or destroyers and the KB and mini KB have disappeared from the coast of Australia.

There are good reasons for him to plan a move in those months. June and July are the major Rehab months for a number of battleships and carriers and that takes those ships off the table for a good period of time.

He is fortifying and digging in with Australia which I believe to be a big mistake on his part. Maybe he will make me look the fool. Time will tell.

Australia is still at approximately 550,000 tons of supplies between Melbourne and Sydney. This number has stayed level up to this point. I am moving a rather nasty CD unit with 16 - 6" guns to Melbourne because I believe that this will be his primary target if he does intend to move on the major cities of Australia.

If it turns out that he is planning on moving farther in India I am going to be able to push back pretty hard within 2 months.

The cupboard is bare on the east coast with the exception of a few units I have not chosen to move yet. I am pretty happy with the current deployment of troops. Christmas has a division at it and Palmyra has a regiment and the line islands are firming up nicely.

He will need a nuke to take Kodiak and/or Anchorage as a division is at each location with troops at Seward and other coastal locations including the 500 point winner Juneau Alaska.

The 2nd marine division is at Pearl and the components of the 1st Marine division will appear on the east coast within days and they will instantly be picked up for transport.

By the end of July I can have most of my naval assets upgraded and in place for whatever I choose. Right now, given the uncertainty of NJP's plans I am going to go on the defensive side and upgrade my fleet in safety.
