so I keep doing bombing missions in northern Europe to bomb the U-boat factories. but each turn the negative VPs increases. a turn ago I had -6 pts for the turn. I bombed the U-boat factory in hamburg. this turn I got a -8 for the turn for U-boats

anyone else having a similar issue? or is fog of war just messing with me and all my raids are missing horribly?

The ai is repairing them.

You lose VP for every undamaged U-Boat factory. The factory in Hamburg isn't the only U-Boat factory, although the majority are near to Hamburg.

You'll have similar issues with V-Weapon factories and launch sites.

the ones I have damaged: kiel, bremershaven, Bremen, hamburg, Wilhelmshaven

the ones I see undamaged: Emden, hannover, lubeck, rostock, Flensburg, stettin (kinda far to get to)

taking a -8 per turn for missing 6 cities? I wasn't bombing these at the start either plus a few of these others were undamaged, but was only taking a -4 per turn


tried bombing hannover several times but RAF bomber command isn't very successful

The rule says that the number of undamaged factories divided by 10 is the calculation. count your undamaged factories.

I guess I am still confused on the calculation - because I listed 6 cites with uboat factories that are undamaged. I looked on the CR to see if I missed any and it looks like danzig, stetten, hagan, and pozan also - so that's 11/10 = 1.1

It's not only the number of undamaged factories, it's the number and their size.

Manual 25.1.1 :

U-Boat points (UPs) are calculated by summing up the size (number of factory points) of all undamaged (less than one percent damage) U-Boat factories.


So if you can't attack them all, the bigger one should be prioritized.

In all those cities combined there are only 11 fully functional factories? Each of those cities have a lot of u boat factories and if it doesn't add up I'd load a save and make a bug report.

It works as intented (1.00.11b)

Quick test with 1943 campaign.

Playing turn one, deleting every AD's, using 8th AF to attack a maximum of u-boats factories.

Results starting turn 2 :

Total undamaged factories : 19 + 3 + 2 + 1 + 1 = 26

26 / 10 = 2,6

VP turn 1 :

-3 U-Boats VP.

If it didn't add up, it would have been 5 / 10 = 0,5.

If the factory has any damage at all it won't be used to calculate VP.

Once you get to 1944 and go after V Weapons, don't miss the huge launch site in Cherbourg.

Danzig is the pain...I got the rest with a combination of 8th and BC, but I wnt send 8th AF as far as Danzig unescorted, so BC had to do it on its own. Took about 3 weeks of attempts. Once you have damaged down to about Rostok on that list, lost VPs become trivial. Mind you, V weapons are worse! You can escort 8th AF to a degree by then, but there are a couple of tricky ones...

You only need to damage the U-Boat factory 1% to stop it from accruing VPs. Of course, they do rebuild.

I haven't tried to completely shut down U-Boat production. If I get it down to -3 or -4 VPs I consider it a success. V Weapons are a different matter. Wipe 'em out.

So it doesn't matter VP wise if you have 30% or 85% damage on a site? I guess the optimal strategy for this would be a relatively light strike on each site as quickly as possible but not actually worrying about knocking them out?

P.S. Is the factory/site damage that you are shown in the selection screen always accurate? E.G. can a factory show as 25% damaged but actualy be fully operational? If so...does flying recon in the area reveal that?

hmmm... interesting, i thought it was prorated. just bomb them enough to keep rebuilding from ever getting the production back to 100%.
