ORIGINAL: R35 Guys, what`s your opinion on the AT switch of large caliber towed howitzers? I know that the German 10.5 cm leFH 18 was used in France in direct fire mode against the French tanks, but does anyone know of any example of the 15 cm sFH 18 ever being used in direct fire mode? Howitzers, in general, have low muzzle velocity so, unlike AA guns or even field guns, they don`t make natural weapons against tanks unless there`s some HEAT ammunition designed for them. We have a number of 15cm howitzers that have an AT version and in my opinion they look kinda odd in that iteration. Any thoughts on this? If we talk about the Red Army, The following models of howitzers regularly used against enemy tanks 107mm M1940 (M60). These guns were on arms anti-tank brigades of the Red Army. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/107_mm_divisional_gun_M1940_(M-60) 122mm M1910/30. These guns were the backbone of anti-tank defense of the Red Army during the Battle of Moscow. Quite rarely used against tanks 152mm M1938 (М-30) 122mm M1938 (М-10)
