Hello Everyone

Our newest Brother against Brother patch is available for testing here. Below is the change list for this update.

Fixes
• Possible fix for PBEM timeout issue

• Eliminated the morale penalty for splitting regiments

V1.0.3beta – March 1, 2015
Fixes
• Add PBEM challenge password support

reports.

Change: Turn off weather sound when weather graphic is turned off
Reduced chance of finding a leader casualty from 5% to 3% and added requirement that at least 10 casualties have been caused on both sides during the combat phase.

To be added to this is a number of changes to scenarios, in particular the three historical Manassas scenarios and Blackburn's Ford, especially some A.I. scripting. (The Union at Blackburn's Ford should now be much better.) Also that business of Couch at Williamsburg being missing should be solved.

miller7219 -> RE: Brother Against Brother V1.02beta now available for testing!! (4/24/2015 9:51:27 PM)

I can confirm weather sound and music bugs appear to be fixed with patch 1.02beta. Thank you.

FroBodine -> RE: Brother Against Brother V1.02beta now available for testing!! (4/24/2015 11:43:27 PM)

Scrolling is MUCH better now. Thank you!

It looks like you didn't include the brighter victory hex mod that Eric posted a couple days ago. Please include this in the base game, if you guys like it. I know a lot of folks were very pleased with it.

Could you please explain what these changes are:
- Now showing echelon colors in hierarchy box - what is the hierarchy box and how do I see it? Confused.

- Change: show selected unit/echelons in OOB - what is this, please? Do you mean you implemented it so if you click on a unit on the map, it will highlight in the OOB? If so, I don't see this working.

[edit ] Oh yeah - you should have a version number on the main menu page, so we can tell what version we have installed, and that patches we get installed correctly.

How do I get back to 1.01 for my pbem game? Thanks

uninstall i'm sorry to say and then making sure folder is clean / wiped / empty, reinstall game again

Michael T -> RE: Brother Against Brother V1.02beta now available for testing!! (4/25/2015 6:40:25 AM)

Is this going to be the case for all updates? That is incompatible with previous the patch.

zakblood -> RE: Brother Against Brother V1.02beta now available for testing!! (4/25/2015 12:16:09 PM)

most companies now produce patches that either won't roll back, or let you play on in multi player games, as it's a miss match data file most of the time, but this patch isn't incompatible with any other patch, so not sure of your question tbh so can't really fully answer it either

Ironclad -> RE: Brother Against Brother V1.02beta now available for testing!! (4/25/2015 2:09:08 PM)

Still problems with history graphs buttons - see entry in Tech Support.

FYI you can see the version number in the top right of the loading splash screen.

Hi guys,

It's standard advice that if you are playing PBEM, both players should upgrade to the same version. Once you apply an update unfortunately uninstall the game / reinstall the game is the only guaranteed way to revert to a previous version. That's the case for the vast majority of games, very, very few have any kind of update rollback capability.

Regards,

- Erik

Save files should be compatible between 1.01 and 1.02, but if playing PBEM both players need to be on the same version.

Glad to hear that, when we have to upgrade the game? Before to play the same turn?

ericbabe -> RE: Brother Against Brother V1.02beta now available for testing!! (4/25/2015 10:39:47 PM)

In this case I don't think it will matter when you upgrade. So just do it as soon as possible.

ericbabe -> RE: Brother Against Brother V1.02beta now available for testing!! (4/26/2015 4:55:08 PM)

The hierarchy box is the same thing as the echelon window mentioned in the manual on page 35.

The bit about showing selected units in the OOB shouldn't be there. I tried to strike that line but apparently just merged it instead.

Brambo -> RE: Brother Against Brother V1.02beta now available for testing!! (4/27/2015 3:02:42 PM)

I did the upgrade, when I started the game it said you havn't got the latest version. I cancelled that and carried on. The PBEM game played ok.

ericbabe -> RE: Brother Against Brother V1.02beta now available for testing!! (4/27/2015 6:34:57 PM)

Yes, you'll get that error when playing the beta update, and you can safely ignore it. I don't update the number of the server till we have an official (non-beta) update.

Moltke71 -> RE: Brother Against Brother V1.02beta now available for testing!! (4/29/2015 7:49:24 PM)

Long range movement still doesn't work as described.

I suspect that PBEM games are broken when one side upgrades. Can't be sure until I can somehow contact opponents but it looks like all my PBEM games stalled. One game is jumping around with seemingly random turn numbers. Since I am on v1.01 my guess is they upgraded.

Brambo -> RE: Brother Against Brother V1.02beta now available for testing!! (4/30/2015 3:34:52 PM)

I played my PBEM turn and when it ended I upgraded. My opponent played his turn ok and when completed he upgraded. So far no problems.

I have edited this post as I've just played a PBEM turn and I did find three of my units had teleported off a victory hex by two hexes. They all moved two hexes NE, towards the enemy, the artillery unit even crossed a river to get there, leaving the victoy hex umguarded which was at the end of a bridge, he is now two hexes away fom the enemy, and alone. Very strange, I will continue to monitor.

Whenever, you upgrade even if you manage to coordinate it is unpredictable what will happen to ongoing games since we have no way to know if the PBEM file now points to data that has been altered in the new version. The best way to handle PBEM is stick with the version the game started in. I am going to post a method over in the PBEM Opponents forum.

My problem was that the names used in the PBEM site are different from those used here in the Forums so there is no way to contact them to see if the problems is due to upgrades or them going on vacation.

Hello All,

A new version is up and available for testing. Please give it a go and let us know of any issues you may encounter.

Cheers,
Gerry

Clinchrifles -> RE: Brother Against Brother V1.03beta now available for testing!! (5/1/2015 9:20:09 PM)

Very good changes-thank you for this! BTW-the date on the post says March 1st? Anyways---well done!

marcpennington -> RE: Brother Against Brother V1.03beta now available for testing!! (5/1/2015 9:23:46 PM)

Thanks for the quick patch! In particular, the NATO counters are now far more useful with those formation indications on them.

Gil R. -> RE: Brother Against Brother V1.03beta now available for testing!! (5/1/2015 9:44:52 PM)

To clarify Gerry's edited post, I'll note that the new stuff in 1.03 is the bulleted list, while the non-bulleted stuff was already in 1.02.

Also, Eric and I did not inform Gerry of this, so it was left out of his list, but I also made a change that fixes a Williamsburg-only scenario whereby two brigades and D.H. Hill's division would sometimes be leaderless. The leaders involved -- Hill, Couch, and I-forget-who -- will begin the scenario in guard-mode, thus immobilizing them until it is their time to appear on the battlefield. (There is a boring, code-related explanation for why we're doing this with these three commanders.)

Gil R. -> RE: Brother Against Brother V1.03beta now available for testing!! (5/1/2015 10:08:26 PM)

Oh, another fix that's not included in Gerry's list (WCS's fault, not Gerry's) is that 1.03 has that fix to the bug that affected the in-command status of units in an enemy's zone of control. So that should no longer be an issue -- welcome news to at least two of you who were waiting for this news.

Moltke71 -> RE: Brother Against Brother V1.03beta now available for testing!! (5/1/2015 10:12:05 PM)

As a reviewer, please make the build version clear on an intro page.

oldspec4 -> RE: Brother Against Brother V1.03beta now available for testing!! (5/1/2015 10:20:12 PM)

Thanks for the beta..some good changes here.

A couple of things I noticed with the beta:

1. Prior saved Williamsburg standard scenario game does not work w/ the new beta. Not a biggie since I had made way too many stupid mistakes anyway[:)]

2. The beta for above scenario now has Sumner and not McClellan as the union army commander. This is a more historical representation of Sumner being commander on the field with McClelland remaining at Yorktown[8D].

Gil R. -> RE: Brother Against Brother V1.03beta now available for testing!! (5/1/2015 10:30:02 PM)

Jim/Bismarck,
Since this is a beta version I believe that the version number was deliberately omitted.

oldspec4,
You are correct about Sumner. Making that change was something that somehow slipped through the cracks before release -- Sumner should indeed be running the battle, and already at his HQ, but I failed to take care of that before. McClellan did not appear at the battlefield until around 5:00. We originally planned to have him arrive and take over, but there is no code that lets a new general take over an army/corps/division from another (short of death or wounding), and it makes no sense for Eric to spend multiple days adding such code just so McClellan can show up for the final few turns. If ever I do a scenario that starts in the later afternoon he can be in command, though.

As for your save being broken, that must be from one of the changes I made to the scenario file, though I'm not sure which. Quite possibly getting rid of McClellan. Who I guess is still causing trouble after all these years...
