Looking at the combat report for the capture of Peal Harbor I couldn't help but notice the attacker's Adjusted Assault Value was 158% of his raw Assault Value. Yet it gave a + to the defender for leaders. Any ideas why, other than HQs?

HQ is my only guess.

I´ll be leaving town for a couple of days.

Keep me off page 2 will you? And do the dishes please! [;)]

Scenario 1 has PH garrison at 356 for Japan. DBB might be different, but stock is directional. Essentially a division.

Are you sure about that? Checked both DBB and Stock and they both show 80? Unless I misunderstand how to read it? I hope you are right though for 80...that is pretty pathetic for garrison Hawaii....[8|]

I'm confused. I started a new Scen 1 game and looked at Dec 8--garrison required for Japan was 88. But I have a saved Scen 1 game from October 1942 and it's this:

BBfanboy -> RE: Tale of the Sheep! - JocMeister (A) vs. Olorin (J) (7/18/2015 12:32:57 AM)

Was there an update to the game between the time you saved that October 42 game and your recent check of Dec 8th for the scenario?

The only other explanation is that the garrison requirements can grow and shrink depending on game date. I think some of this happens in India where the populace becomes less hostile to British occupation as the war wears on. This is historic since the British were saving them from an even worse Japanese occupation and had promised India would be granted independence when the war was over.

I don't know of any patches going back to the first that meddled with garrison numbers. It seems likely that your second theory is at work. I confess I don't pay much attention to garrisons outside of India. AFBs have to there; they're picky and a hassle, but can mess you up if you ignore them. But they're mostly very small numbers. 20s and 40s. Not division-equivalents.

80 AV to hold Oahu, having lived there, is ludicrously low IMO. A division would be low given the terrain and guerrilla possibilities from the Pali supported by a favorable civilian populace.

What matters to Jocke, and I don't know the answer, is whether the garrison freezes at the point PH falls. Of does it expand on the JFB's back, causing more and more LCUs to be tied down?

______________________________________________________________________________

A lone turn dropped in yesterday!

------------------------
Pacific
------------------------

Nothing to report. Due to losing PH and pretty much every single island in CENTPAC I´m currently completely blind here. Once my subs return from PH I´ll try to place them in a position to spot incoming raids for the WC.

WC is emptied of shipping and all troops are placed forward concentrated at San Diego, Los Angeles, San Fransisco and Seattle. I won´t be able to defend against KB strikes as the USAAF is abysmal. But I´ve concentrated AA at the big aircraft factories.

------------------------
SOPAC
------------------------

Expecting a big push here to begin in 3-4 weeks depending on how much fuel Nick got from PH. If I´m lucky he didn´t get that much and need to ship more from the HI which would buy me time.

An I-boat recons Sydney and spot QE. ASW TFs are set to hunt it.

------------------------
China
------------------------

The work to try and suppress Nigsia continues. Two turns ago Nick moved in a 27 plane Oscar Sentai which tore into the hapless Chinese bombers. The AVG was sent in to revenge them.

First sweep.

quote:

Morning Air attack on Ningsia , at 84,33

Weather in hex: Heavy cloud

Raid spotted at 45 NM, estimated altitude 21,000 feet.
Estimated time to target is 11 minutes

Japanese aircraft
Ki-43-Ib Oscar x 27

Allied aircraft
H81-A3 x 22

Japanese aircraft losses
Ki-43-Ib Oscar: 2 destroyed

Allied aircraft losses
H81-A3: 1 destroyed

CAP engaged:
260th Sentai with Ki-43-Ib Oscar (0 airborne, 12 on standby, 9 scrambling)
12 plane(s) intercepting now.
0 plane(s) not yet engaged, 6 being recalled, 0 out of immediate contact.
Group patrol altitude is 15000
Time for all group planes to reach interception is 15 minutes

The Oscars manage to keep the 1st AVG squadron at bay despite being at a disadvantage. But this is followed by a sweep from the 2nd Squadron which more or less annihilates the Oscar Sentai.

quote:

Morning Air attack on Ningsia , at 84,33

Weather in hex: Heavy cloud

Raid spotted at 37 NM, estimated altitude 21,000 feet.
Estimated time to target is 9 minutes

Japanese aircraft
Ki-43-Ib Oscar x 18

Allied aircraft
H81-A3 x 19

Japanese aircraft losses
Ki-43-Ib Oscar: 6 destroyed

No Allied losses

CAP engaged:
260th Sentai with Ki-43-Ib Oscar (0 airborne, 0 on standby, 0 scrambling)
17 plane(s) not yet engaged, 0 being recalled, 1 out of immediate contact.
Group patrol altitude is 15000 , scrambling fighters between 15000 and 19000.
Time for all group planes to reach interception is 91 minutes

This sweep sees 3 new aces in the 2nd squadron which now totals 76 kills and 6 aces. An unprecedented score for any Allied squadron at this stage. Go 2nd Squadron! [:)]

------------------------
Japanese intentions
------------------------

That is pretty much it. I´m keeping a close eye on SIGINT trying to find any clues on where Nick goes next. I have the 19th ID prepping for Luzon. This is nowhere near enough. I think he will need at least 4 IDs to clear it within reasonably time. Manila still has over 100.000 fuel and my subs will all rebase here once Java falls.

Allied plans continue according to plan for now.

Back home again. No turn so no update!

Lowpe -> RE: Tale of the Sheep! - JocMeister (A) vs. Olorin (J) (7/28/2015 6:47:10 PM)

Is the slow down due to events at home or is Japan losing interest after taking Pearl? Or is there simply a huge re-organization going on for the next wave of attacks?

ny59giants -> RE: Tale of the Sheep! - JocMeister (A) vs. Olorin (J) (7/28/2015 7:35:34 PM)

Losing Hawaii and the Line Islands makes a very big hole when it comes to having PBYs cover all that water. Nothing between Dutch Harbor and Tahiti for me! [:(]

Nick blames "summer". I´m not too happy though. I´ve been renovating the kitchen, have two kids + wife to take care of and can still put aside 1-2 hours to make a turn per day. So I´m not too sympathetic to his "plight". He had 4 days to do a turn while I´m gone and still nothing. Last time I was gone he had 5 days.

He says he will pick up the pace in August though so I´ll be patient until then. For me this pace is unplayable. I spend more time trying to remember what I did last/was going to do then I do actually doing the turn. I get no flow at all.

I´ll probably face the same situation in 1-2 months. But I feel prepared for the situation when it comes. Setting up the new LOC is PITA but once its done things are fairly simple. I lose about a month in travel time but once you get the convoys rolling it doesn´t matter much. I have a big convoy arriving at OZ about every 3-4 weeks. Between that I have faster troop convoys. Problem is mostly refueling. Currently only have two AOs to spare to refuel the navy while the rest is busy refueling the convoys on their homeward leg.

Port Stanley will be very important in this. Going to send some NavSupport there to speed things up.

Hah! I actually considered it. But I´ll be patient this time in case Nick gets things flowing again. Back to work in a months which will drastically cut my playing time.

JocMeister -> RE: Tale of the Sheep! - JocMeister (A) vs. Olorin (J) (7/30/2015 4:15:36 PM)

Yey, finally got a turn. [&o] Sadly nothing interesting happened and Nick is out of town until Sunday. I´ll do an update (however boring) sometime tomorrow.

OZ

The sub outside Sydney still lingers and QE is again spotted.

------------------------
China
------------------------

Nick pulls out from the mountains North of Ichang. I´ll leave enough to stall him here if he comes again but the rest will move back towards Ankang.

Nick did try an attack on the Ankang road. He got a decent result.

quote:

Ground combat at 83,45 (near Nanyang)

Japanese Deliberate attack

Attacking force 27535 troops, 282 guns, 91 vehicles, Assault Value = 848

Defending force 30932 troops, 153 guns, 0 vehicles, Assault Value = 657

Japanese adjusted assault: 365

Allied adjusted defense: 1270

Japanese assault odds: 1 to 3

Combat modifiers
Defender: terrain(+), experience(-)
Attacker:

Japanese ground losses:
561 casualties reported
Squads: 0 destroyed, 85 disabled
Non Combat: 1 destroyed, 11 disabled
Engineers: 0 destroyed, 6 disabled
Guns lost 7 (1 destroyed, 6 disabled)
Vehicles lost 16 (1 destroyed, 15 disabled)

Allied ground losses:
624 casualties reported
Squads: 2 destroyed, 58 disabled
Non Combat: 0 destroyed, 6 disabled
Engineers: 0 destroyed, 2 disabled

Assaulting units:
15th Tank Regiment
34th/B Division
6th Division
34th/C Division
40th/A Division
14th Medium Field Artillery Regiment
52nd Ind.Mtn.Gun Battalion
1st Army
6th Medium Field Artillery Regiment

Defending units:
55th Chinese Corps
59th Chinese Corps
92nd Chinese Corps
22nd Group Army
[

59th Corps will be replaced by 66th Corps and head back to Ankang for some R&R.

China still worries me greatly. Nick really caught me off guard with the thrust at Ichang. I now have much of my reserves scattered in the woods in that area. I think Nick will shift to the East now. While my troops have managed to dig in there reserves are slim with only 1500 left at Sian. All roadblocks have 500-800 AV in x3 terrain and level 3 forts though which is positive.

Changsha area looks pretty good with 3000 AV in reserve at Changsha and Changteh.

Lanchow area has grown to 1500 AV. Even when Nick has built up Ningsia I think supply will make any major effort here problematic.

You may have mentioned elsewhere, but how did he do with resources when PH surrendered?

OT - Enjoyable AAR as always. A thought while your waiting, Matrix is looking for Beta Testers for WitW: Operation Torch! I know you loved WitW, I just can't understand how you came back to AE after all that love your expressed! JOKE, I have to agree with your thoughts. WitW did nothing for me when I played.

I look at all those Chinese troops off roads, in the woods, and can't help but feel you are out of position. This comes from playing a no stacking limit game I guess, and not having any experience with stacking limits.

The loss of mobility for so many troops would scare the heck out of me.

But, I am sure you know what you are doing![:)]

Welcome aboard! [:)] No clue how much he got from PH. It might be in his AAR!

I think I´ll pass on the Operation Torch BETA! [:D] A bit curious why its taken so long for them to release it though. Either they have given up on it or they are actually trying to fix WitW and make it...fun and rewarding. [:D]

If I do that Nick will just walk through the wilderness into the Chungking plains. Erik did that with a 200.000 man army and never suffered any supply problems. I´m pretty sure he could get enough supply flowing from Ichang to sustain a big offensive into the plains.

Has there been any sigint on the PI invaders??

IFF I was in for a fun game I'd be eyeing off some of the Alaska/Canada islands, is Vancouver Is above the line of death??

PS A couple of more patches to WITW, its about 50% there, I also dont see TORCH working any better with weekly timeframe
