I could never do 7 turns in a day. Never. Ever.

Crackaces -> RE: Tale of the Sheep! - JocMeister (A) vs. Olorin (J) (8/7/2015 6:56:05 PM)

There is a short discussion in his AAR status post his conquering Peal Harbor. I bring up the point that Peal Harbor
is now a big fuel drain as PH is miles (and hexes) away from fuel sources. The JFB's disagree but it is shortly thereafter the turns stop.

It would be interesting to know the state of Pearl Harbor .. I suspect pretty wrecked given the number of US engineers in place.
Thus a lot of supply/fuel to the build things up if in fact it is to be used as a base (the repair to base levels port and airfields does not take supply but to have base supply and fuel levels to do operations does take an investment if none is left)

The move extends the IJ's influence eastwards but allows for a "Hail Mary" into some undefended weak point ...

Even moving stuff off the island would take fuel if no/little fuel is there .. supply to restore disabled/destroyed squads ..
I suspect all of the above was not considered when starting this misadventure ...

Over expansion keeps the offensive momentium going until the Allies get lots more stuff and then the lack of interior defenses raise their ugly head ... the Hokkaido Hurricane seems to be a solution of recent days [8D]

You might be right. HavnŽt looked at the IJ side nor do I have the PW. If I donŽt find a replacement IŽll ask Nick for the pass and check it out! IŽll make sure to post the state of PH here if it comes to that. [:)]

Not sure what Nick plans was but he sounded confident in his last mail he could get AV. So he might have a solid plan! DonŽt want to ask to much in case I find someone.

JocMeister -> RE: Tale of the Sheep! - JocMeister (A) vs. Olorin (J) (8/18/2015 2:22:06 PM)

February 19th 1942
______________________________________________________________________________

Fairly quiet first turn for Jeff to deal with.

------------------------
Pacific
------------------------

Not much to report here. The subs leaving the PH area have started arriving at the WC. They will repair damage, refuel and then head out again. Most back to PH but some of the S-boats will be divert up to NOPAC to guard the Canadian border.

------------------------
China
------------------------

Nothing

------------------------
DEI
------------------------

The KX locates and launches two times against AO Ondo scoring no hits. This is followed up by KIX launching 4 TTs against AO Tsurumi scoring one hit. [:)]

quote:

Sub attack near Sangi at 78,96

Japanese Ships
AO Tsurumi, Torpedo hits 1, heavy fires, heavy damage
SC Ch 23

Allied Ships
SS KIX

Fuel cargo burning which probably mean she is a goner. The unloading at Ambon continues. The Dutch launch what little planes they have left for no result. CD guns continue to score some hits though!

quote:

Invasion Support action off Ambon (76,109) - Coastal Guns Fire Back!

39 Coastal gun shots fired in defense.

Japanese Ships
APD Hagi, Shell hits 2, on fire
APD Fuji, Shell hits 2, on fire
APD Sawakaze, Shell hits 3, heavy fires
PB Rokko Maru #2
PB Nishho Maru
E Hashidate
TB Hayabusa

3 sinking sounds here during the replay. Probably two from the Ambon landing + the AO. Approaching 100 Japanese ships sunk so far. Although nothing of real value its a psychological boost. [:D]

IŽll try to get something more up tonight regarding my thought on the future!

EDIT: Screen was messed up. CanŽt be bothered to rerun the turn for a new one!

Good deal.

You should see what he's saying about you in the other AAR! Oh, man! I didn't know Swedish guys did THAT! Yuck! No amount of soap . . . The insults ought to result in a ban, but you know this place--JFBs get away with murder. When you read it all you're gonna want a plane ticket. Unacceptable!!!

As your agent here I advise a quick move to show this JFB what the Allies are made of. You've been letting them get away with waaaaay too much, sir. Gird your loins! (Look it up.) And strike! Strike! Or, OK, plan to strike! Plan to strike!!

JocMeister -> RE: Tale of the Sheep! - JocMeister (A) vs. Olorin (J) (8/18/2015 6:14:35 PM)

Situation
______________________________________________________________________________

IŽll try and provide a brief rundown on everything now that we are rolling again! [&o]

------------------------
Pacific
------------------------

Not much has changed for me due to the switch in the Japanese high command. My plans for 42 remains the same (besides trying to avoid AV). Its still very, very early and almost impossible for me to read anything in the tea leaves. For now IŽll assume Lowpe will swing south down towards the Samoans, Fiji and possibly as far down as Tahiti. If so then Noumea and possibly OZ or NZ will be on the table.

That is what I believe is the most likely scenario. So for now IŽll plan for that. No major combat units will be deployed in the defense but rather smaller units intended as speed bumps. In the meantime NZ will be used as the major hub in SOPAC. Out of necessity IŽll also have to develop at least one of the smaller bases down in SOPAC. Possibly in the Marquesas. This will be just a refueling station. Emergency plan is to station AOs even deeper in SOPAC to allow convoys to refuel enough to get back home.

Forts at Melbourne and Sydney is coming along. I think they are between 4 and 5 right now.

Due to the situation in CENTPAC IŽve sent less xAKs from CT to the states then I normally do. I seldom use Perth but I might in this game if things permit.

------------------------
India
------------------------

At this stage India doesnŽt seem to be on the table. For that he will need the IDs at PH + KB and I hope SIGINT can give me warning if he shifts them back. The 6th OZ ID is already in India and the 7th is on its way. The 7th will stay at Calcutta with several fast xAPs ready to move them to OZ/NZ if needed. I want them in India though...

------------------------
NORPAC
------------------------

In NORPAC IŽve done pretty much nothing besides building forts. Nick grabbed everything up to and including Dutch very early. He has some DDs operating up here and so do I. Some S-boats are on their way. DonŽt dare send anything big up here as its too easy to get boxed in against the coast. Almost lost the NC and Wasp that way against Erik.

------------------------
China
------------------------

IŽve done better then expected here although supply will be gone in 30-45 days. After that it game over and the rout will begin. CanŽt complain though. China is what it is. I Expect Jeff to launch a major offensive here within a week.

------------------------
DEI
------------------------

Java will fall very soon. Ambon as well. He still have Luzon to deal with though. While perhaps not critical it does give me a very nice sub base in the middle of the Japanese shipping lanes. Still have 108k fuel at Manila. I even pop over some CATs from time to time to take a peek. [:)]

------------------------
Allied planning
------------------------

I find the lack of troops in Burma and DEI quite interesting. Right now there is only 1 Japanese ID in Burma (Imperial Guards). Two more IDs at Java and lone one on Mindanao...This might prove a very nice opportunity to try and force a Japanese reaction...MKB is probably hiding at Johore Bahru (Just North of Singapore where it was spotted about 2 weeks ago) but without the full KB I donŽt have to guard against an invasion in my back. This could allow me to play quite aggressively in the area possibly forcing a Japanese reaction which would be a small victory in itself.

Right now it will be very interesting to see how he will deal with Luzon. While forts havnŽt been building for quite some time its still 2500 AV in very good defensive terrain. Sooner or later he has to deal with it.

Bullwinkle58 -> RE: Tale of the Sheep! - JocMeister (A) vs. Olorin (J) (8/18/2015 6:53:44 PM)

He's going to need the Soerbaja and Borneo fuel more or less just to operate out to Hawaii and to the WC if/when. Hawaii really bends the Japanese economy in 1942 at best, and breaks it at worst. Make him run around as much as you can. Subs aren't free fuel-wise either, although a lot players act as if they are. If he tried an India or an Oz I'd be surprised. Hawaii is his big, ahistorical push and it's accomplished. Now it has to be digested.

Perth should be used to the Nth degree with this distribution of forces. Build Kalgoorlie and the port bases to the south of Perth as bulwarks against invasion. But shove a lot in through OZ. You can afford to do it without escorts if you choose your landfalls well. If you don't have to pause to refuel short-legged escorts you can get very good throughput from CT. If he raids you lose a few xAKs. You get over 2000.

Lokasenna -> RE: Tale of the Sheep! - JocMeister (A) vs. Olorin (J) (8/19/2015 12:01:33 AM)

In the interest of full disclosure, and now that there's another AAR up that I'll be reading, I'm sure... I should mention that I also had a look at the IJ side of the save file and was consulted (does this mean I was/am Lowpe's agent?). I provided only comments on the IJ OOB and such (it helps that I couldn't even remember what was going on in this thread anyway [;)]). I figured it was alright since Lowpe's been around in this AAR since the beginning as it is. It was interesting to see what Olorin had going on, and the specifics of the scenario you're using. It also taught me how to actually install a pwhex file, finally.

Now that there are 2 AARs I'll be following, you may see me comment in both at times. They'll just be meta-type posts ("Be aware that even trading 1:2 in VPs, in high enough numbers, can stave off Japanese AV", etc.) on mechanics, strategic concerns with a proposed course of action, potential consequences, etc.

Not just your landfalls, but your waypoints... it's easy enough to raid with SCTFs, CVEs, and subs along the automatic routes between CT and Perth/Melbourne. Add those Waypoints, and change them up from time to time. He could get a radio intel hit on your route at any time and you wouldn't necessarily notice, even if you were watching the DLs on all of your TFs all of the time.

You are NOT making any sense! [:D]

I think you are right concerning PH. It might in the long run become a serious problem for the Japanese economy. IŽm still not very worried concerning the actual loss. Only real loss are the VPs but if he hadnŽt come for PH he would have grabbed something else gaining VPs there instead. VP wise (all things considered) he probably gained more on this then anything else he could have done at this stage. But IŽm not sure its strategically the wisest move to make. If I can avoid AV it might put Japan in a very difficult position. IŽll just have to wait and see how things develop.

Right now IŽm keeping my fingers he didnŽt get all of the fuel (was it 600k?) that was at PH. If he did get it he can now move very quickly and I will probably see the next move in 2-3 weeks. If not it might delay him enough to miss the Amphib bonus in which case he will have to wait for prepp buying me more time!

IŽll look at the Perth area and what can be done. DonŽt want to commit here until I know eastern OZ is safe. Right now the OZ army is resting and waiting for the Squad 42 update. US reinforcements are on its way. The real shortage is actually engineers, BFs and AA. Especially Engineers to start building forts at needed locations.

I know. Jeff told me he asked you to look at things! No wonder you couldnŽt remember anything from this thread...even I canŽt! [:)] IŽll sure miss your specific advice though. YouŽve always provided solid advice and a set me straight when I was doing stupid things! Ah well, some stupidity in here might be good for comedy! [:D]

IŽll make sure IŽll change the exit zones from the map edge. I never unload at Perth itself but rather on some of the smaller bases further in the south. As I said IŽve never used this route much besides the odd supply convoy (you donŽt have that much to spare in CT anyway). IŽll probably send some of the shorter legged xAKs at Balboa to EC and start shipping supply and fuel from EC to CT. CanŽt use the low END xAKs anywhere else anyway.

As you know, its not until May when you start the steady flow of SeaBees does your construction engineer problem start to decrease. You have a few Constr Rgt, but not enough. For Christmas '42, you get those nice big SeaBee Rgt to use with over 200 engineers (engineers plus vehicles). In just over 6 months you go from famine to feast in this one area. [&o]

______________________________________________________________________________

Only have the replay yet so things are a little sketchy.

------------------------
NORPAC
------------------------

A SCTF is spotted 10 or so hexes south of Dutch. Might be the small DD TF I tangled with earlier. IŽll see if I have something to come out and play with.

------------------------
China
------------------------

The usual bombardments of Wenchow goes in. But this time without DDs and only Kiso...I bet losses to subs around DEI is starting to be a worry so the DDs are detached to convoy duty? IŽll see if I can make him pay for that. [:)]

Speaking of which...only a small one. But every one helps a little.

quote:

Suddenly Singers is now full of enemy mines...ouch. KXVIII eats one but looks fine as can be seen in the above attack. SS O2O donŽt though showing "heavy damage". WonŽt know how bad until I get the turn.

------------------------
Pacific
------------------------

I forgot to mention that last turn the entire Hawaiian air force showed up at SF. These will be relegated to training for now as I donŽt have the planes to fill even a fourth of them.

Well, that is it. IŽll try to get some maps up tonight!

NORPAC
______________________________________________________________________________

IŽm almost blind up here. A small CAT squadron is working out of Kodiak. A 2 ship remnant from PH is flying out from Chirkof. A small DD flotilla is operating out of Prince Rupert together with some small xAKLs and a KV. Some YPs are also scattered around. Other then that its empty.
