Dacca
_____________________________________________________________________________

Got the replay and the CR. Look at this... [:)]

quote:

Ground combat at Dacca (56,38)

Allied Bombardment attack

Attacking force 84363 troops, 1527 guns, 922 vehicles, Assault Value = 2563

Defending force 48405 troops, 569 guns, 234 vehicles, Assault Value = 1298

Japanese ground losses:
240 casualties reported
Squads: 3 destroyed, 18 disabled
Non Combat: 1 destroyed, 1 disabled
Engineers: 1 destroyed, 0 disabled

Allied ground losses:
230 casualties reported
Squads: 4 destroyed, 27 disabled
Non Combat: 0 destroyed, 1 disabled
Engineers: 1 destroyed, 2 disabled
Guns lost 4 (2 destroyed, 2 disabled)

Assaulting units:
70th British Division
7th Australian Division
6th Australian Division
32nd Infantry Division
18th British Division
2nd British Division

2nd HK&S Heavy AA Regiment
24th Indian Mountain Gun Regiment
23rd Indian Mountain Gun Regiment
IV Indian Corps
25th Indian Mountain Gun Regiment
2/9th Field Regiment
95th Heavy AA Regiment
21st Light AA Regiment
2/11th Field Regiment
1st Indian Heavy AA Regiment

Defending units:
4th Ind.Mixed Regiment
5th Division
38th Division
4th Guards Division

3rd Mortar Battalion
10th Ind. Mountain Gun Regiment
14th Ind.Art.Mortar Bn /5
16th AA Regiment
91st JAAF AF Bn
15th JAAF Base Force
20th AA Regiment
3rd Ind. Mountain Gun Regiment
20th Ind. Mtn Gun Battalion
1st RF Gun Bn /1

Dacca is a clear hex so no defensive multiplier. Bombardment shows good results which means forts cannot be high at all. The 4th Guards division is a mediocre one while the 5th and 38th are good ones.

This is certainly doable. Iīll order an attack immediately. [:)]

JocMeister -> RE: Canada and India invaded! (2/13/2016 7:31:58 PM)

Iīll hold the update until tomorrow as Jeff will be unavailable. Working on the next turn right now. It will be bloody...hopefully not so much of mine! [:D]

JocMeister -> RE: Canada and India invaded! (2/14/2016 5:54:53 AM)

Not really sure what happened. Jeff is away today but said he would send me the turn during the day. Didnīt get one though which means I wonīt get it until tomorrow. [:(]

I did two ground attacks (Dacca + North) and a 400 plane sweep of CH. Had hoped I could have done an extensive update today when Jeff is away. But I canīt really do that without the turn.

JocMeister -> RE: Canada and India invaded! (2/14/2016 1:41:29 PM)

_____________________________________________________________________________

Only got the replay and CR so you will have to make due without screens for now.

------------------------
NORPAC/WC
------------------------

Sometimes the game just conspires against you. This was certainly such a day. [:(]

I have 440 Fighters set to sweep Coal Harbor. Due to range and stacking issues I couldnīt send them from the same airfield as the bombers flying from Seattle. So to minimize the risk of sweeps raining in while bombers flew...I divided my fighters to 3 different airfields. Vancouver, Oak Harbor and Bremerton (if memory serves me right). Of course they ALL 3 rain in except Seattle. [8|]

As I havnīt the turn file its hard to predict the damage but its not looking good.

quote:

Morning Air attack on Coal Harbour , at 204,49

Weather in hex: Moderate rain

Raid detected at 40 NM, estimated altitude 16,000 feet.
Estimated time to target is 12 minutes

Japanese aircraft
A6M2 Zero x 23
A6M5 Zero x 8
Ki-44-IIa Tojo x 30

Allied aircraft
B-17E Fortress x 50
B-26 Marauder x 11

Japanese aircraft losses
A6M2 Zero: 1 destroyed, 4 damaged
A6M2 Zero: 2 destroyed on ground
G3M2 Nell: 1 destroyed on ground
G4M1 Betty: 1 destroyed on ground

Allied aircraft losses
B-17E Fortress: 2 destroyed, 22 damaged
B-26 Marauder: 3 destroyed, 2 damaged

This was followed by 4 smaller raids. Hard to predict losses but it will be ugly.

Do I need to mention weather forecast was "clear"... [8|] Not a happy camper right now. Yuck.

------------------------
China
------------------------

Bad news continue to pile on here. I really donīt know why I even try to defend. Iīm probably better off just running back to Chungking or the mountains.

quote:

Ground combat at 75,50 (near Kweiyang)

Japanese Deliberate attack

Attacking force 37412 troops, 509 guns, 1096 vehicles, Assault Value = 1205

Defending force 28794 troops, 165 guns, 0 vehicles, Assault Value = 417

Allied adjusted defense: 307

Japanese assault odds: 3 to 1

Allied ground losses:

Squads: 378 destroyed, 5 disabled
Non Combat: 280 destroyed, 39 disabled
Engineers: 26 destroyed, 2 disabled
Guns lost 23 (20 destroyed, 3 disabled)

Good news here though. [:)]

Defending force 48012 troops, 569 guns, 234 vehicles, Assault Value = 1271

Allied adjusted assault: 1160

Japanese adjusted defense: 1535

Allied assault odds: 1 to 2 (fort level 3)

Combat modifiers
Defender: preparation(-)
Attacker:

Japanese ground losses:
2226 casualties reported
Squads: 7 destroyed, 207 disabled
Non Combat: 2 destroyed, 64 disabled
Engineers: 0 destroyed, 36 disabled

Allied ground losses:
957 casualties reported
Squads: 10 destroyed, 213 disabled
Non Combat: 1 destroyed, 22 disabled
Engineers: 0 destroyed, 23 disabled
Guns lost 44 (1 destroyed, 43 disabled)
Vehicles lost 7 (1 destroyed, 6 disabled)

My guys were pretty high FAT/DIS before the attack. So this is an excellent result considering Japanese troops were well rested and dug in behind forts. Have to wait for the turn until I know if another attack is doable.

Jeff is trying to get the hell out so this was probably my only chance. But with the abandonment of Dacca the Japanese Indian expedition is over. [:)]

JocMeister -> RE: Canada and India invaded! (2/14/2016 1:45:41 PM)

Airlosses
_____________________________________________________________________________

Got the turn. Losses was much lighter then I feared! We almost got away with a 1:1.

EDIT: The P38s were the only fighters with the range to reach CH from Seattle and they luckily flew before the bombers. These were permarestricted units arriving at 50% strength. I will have to pull them out and use them as trainers from now on though. Wonīt allow them to take replacements as they "disband" rather then "withdraw".

_____________________________________________________________________________

Troops are pretty beat up. Thoughts on making another attack next turn? Iīm leaning towards no as the disruption is too high for my liking.

BBfanboy -> RE: Canada and India invaded! (2/14/2016 2:16:16 PM)

Definitely rest those troops.

How did you get 70th Brit Division up to 379 AV? In my game (Stock scenario 1) it arrives with only engineers and support and the TOE says that is all it gets. The text for seeing the Unit Composition is grayed out. I have never been able to find units that match with it to fill out the division.

ny59giants -> RE: Canada and India invaded! (2/14/2016 2:27:18 PM)

70th Brit Div is full strength in DBB mods versus stock.

_____________________________________________________________________________

Hmm....now what do we have here? KB? Or something else?

[image]local://upfiles/32406/8399E99E184A4658ADE8B7524F55BC48.jpg[/image]

Lokasenna -> RE: Canada and India invaded! (2/14/2016 3:37:33 PM)

Bay of Bengal "KB" - that's something else. You likely don't have good DL on them. What's telling is the "CVE" sighting. It's some kind of baby KB with the 21-knot CVE(s) IMO.

Dacca - don't attack with those numbers. Forts are still too high for you to take the base. I'd only attack with fatigue/disruption numbers like that if it was my only chance to wreck units before they fled the hex. You don't have a realistic chance of doing so.

Possibly. But why are they there? That is the really interesting question.

You are right about Dacca. He will probably shift in 2-3 turns. Not enough time to inflict a retreat.

Explaining a bit... In stock the 70th basically represents the HQ and various divisional elements, while other components (such as the brigades/regiments) are separate. In DBB the 70th is laid out in more standard fashion.

Joc-

Do you know the Japanese strength...think it is Cormilla...Southwest of Daca?

Just curious.

It sure is fun reading both your and Lowpe's AARs.

I'll bomb over to Lowepe's AAR now.

Best Regards,

Showed 7 units 3 days ago. My recon has been resting for 2 days but Comilla is on the target list next turn. [:)]

Got the replay. No sign of that TF that I could see.

But....guess who forgot to stand down the sweeps over Coal Harbor. Yep. Me. It was bad. Horribly bad.

Air Losses
_____________________________________________________________________________

Wow, things weren't as bad as I expected. A little bit better then a 1:2. Not that Iīm happy of course but looking at the replay it was a disaster.

The Wildcats can easily be replaced. I can replace the Warhawks as well but it will put a big dent in my pools. Lesson for the day: Donīt forget stuff like this! [:D]

VPs
_____________________________________________________________________________

This screen shows pretty clearly just how hard that Japanese AV is. Remember last turn saw a huge Allied defeat in China, a big loss in India (Ledo) and a very bad day in the air. Followed by a very bad day in the air today.

And still the ratio keeps dropping. Getting those 4 VPs for each allied one is not a small task.

September
_____________________________________________________________________________

A good month for Allied air power. The P40E is phased out and will be replaced by the P40K. Production is boosted from 35 "Es" to a whooping 65 "Ks". Not bad! Interestingly enough the "E" will run parallel with the "K" for 2 full month giving me over 100 USAAF fighters during September and October. Nice. [:)]

And finally the F-4 kicks into production. How I have nourished and cared for the few I have. First squadrons (understrength of course) arrived in April I think? Been running them very, very carefully but despite that OPs have nibbled away at them.

The Canadians also get their version of the "K" the Kittyhawk III. Only 12 per month though so they will be flying the "I" for quite some time.

Next thing to really look forward to is the Corsair in January. Got to love the Corsair! [:)]

CaptBeefheart -> RE: Canada and India invaded! (2/16/2016 6:06:31 AM)

It's the little things that warm the cockles of the AFB's heart in 1942.[;)]

I feel the Corsair is the most important allied upgrade. It is the first true air to air offensive weapon, you get a decent number of them, and they come 7 months before the jug (and those particular 7 months might just be the most important of the war). They also have range (especially once they get their external tanks). Make sure you have plenty of good USMC pilots ready to go - and maybe even stage the airgroups that get them ahead of time (it took me months to get them to Burma).
Where do you plan on sending them?

JocMeister -> RE: Canada and India invaded! (2/16/2016 3:14:42 PM)

They will definitively go to India unless something changes! [:)]

First USMC squadrons left for CT a couple of weeks ago. Needed to finish one training cycle before I could send them. Donīt have that many squadrons yes so only 2 are on their way but I hope to boost that to 4 shortly.

Nice to shave off another 200 or so AV. There arnīt really any good bases for him to recover them while I have everything I need and more at Calcutta.

Nothing here since the debacle over CH.

We are a busy beehive where Jeff is not seeing. Fuel is up to 200k at Auckland now. Another 200k is incoming within a week. Fleet has departed Auckland after refits and will join up with the Noumea defense force. I need to optimize my DD allocation a bit. I want the Bagleys with the CVs and Porters/Mahans with the SCTFs.

The last three 4 stackers are being converted to APDs.

An odd 2 ship TF has been moving around in the area for the last few days. Donīt want to show my cards here so I detached two DDs to take a look at it. CATs reporting "A PB something something has been HIT". This is clearly a bait of some sort.

------------------------
India
------------------------

Ordered another attack at Dacca today but I think they will move out before that. Engineers and BFs are already on their way. My center force is moving while my Northern force is on guard. The 1st Marines where bombed today. Hopefully Jeff didnīt look too closely at what was actually bombed and missed them in the CR.

Another set of Recon was ordered for tomorrow. Iīll get a new map up after that.

Canoerebel -> RE: Canada and India invaded! (2/17/2016 3:50:22 PM)

Absolutly, if your guys aren't too beat up. But if they badly disrupted and fatigued, you'd better wait a couple of days. Next attack should definitely be shock unless he manages to reinforce.
