Nothing spectacular.

------------------------
NORPAC/WC
------------------------

Given most of my fighters didn´t fly on the 19th we go again on the 20th. We do a lot better but still only manage a 1:1. I have decided to stop the sweeps for now.

The current ratio isn´t good enough. We are well safe from AV so there is no need to throw away planes and pilots right now. I´ll disperse the fighters to cover as much as possible and see if I can hit some of his bombers.

------------------------
SOPAC
------------------------

A small Japanese DD force rush into Luganville after spotting one of my small xAKL TFs. I suspected something might come so I disbanded everything that had unloaded at Luganville. Only a lone xAKL remained at it was promptly sunk with 450 supply still onboard. Another TF is loading at Noumea.

------------------------
India
------------------------

The Navy disengages safely. Now I "only" have to avoid the subs before leaving for CT. The air force is recovering FAT and will do so for another turn. RAF is on CAP.

Japanese army has pulled back to Chittagong. Allies are in pursuit. To avoid overstacking I sent some forces back to clear the Ledo area together with some reinforcements.

Me stupid.

------------------------
NORPAC/WC
------------------------

Guess who forgot to stand down the Sweeps over CH? Yupp. Me. [sm=00000734.gif]. 44 lost for 28 shot down...

SIGINT show the 2nd Army planning for Victoria. Have to look that one up and see what units are tied to it.

------------------------
SOPAC
------------------------

Nothing much. I did spot some Japanese DDs outside Hiva Oa. Took Jeff long enough to realize pretty much everything for SOPAC was going this route. [:)]

Nothing in danger here though. Have a TF returning to Balboa but they will go off map the next turn. Nothing incoming for at least a month. I´ll either send it deeper into SOPAC via Tahiti or give it an escort.

------------------------
India
------------------------

Nothing to report.

------------------------
General Allied moves.
------------------------

Nothing planned for October/November besides base expansion in SOPAC. Navy and merchants are getting that important 10/42 refit done.

In India we will expel the Japanese and then expand the bases towards Burma. I have yet to decided if I´ll go through Burma or something else. Will have to decide soon. 100 days of prepp...

Only about 75 days of prep if you can leave them in rest mode.

The sweeps cancellation mistake was not stupidity - it's a symptom of someone overtired and rushed in doing things. You take a lot of things on yourself and you should expect that a few details will fall between the cracks. I'm amazed that you are doing so well in this game!

Thanks guys. Thing have been a little bit too hectic lately indeed. I keep waiting for RL to calm down but it never does. Sadly the game and AAR is suffering. Hope things settle down eventually. I´m getting some R&R next weekend. Will head to Dortmund to watch some soccer. All expenses paid by work. It will hell of a trip I´m sure! [:D]

_____________________________________________________________________________

Good a good two hours done on the turn. Been a long time since I really got to sit down and sort though everything!

------------------------
NORPAC/WC
------------------------

I´m getting more and more convinced something is brewing here. Been sifting through SIGINT and Jeff is moving a lot of troops into the area. I´m now counting at least 8 IDs in Hawaii and NORPAC. He has also moved a ton of artillery and armor in. Divisions have even been pulled from India to this area. And last turn I got this nugget.

quote:

CV Zuikaku is moving to Pearl Harbor (180,107).

Also have more arty moving for Hawaii...Moving KB to an area isn´t a defensive move. I´ll try to put up a list of the divisions I know are in the area. We may be looking at a full scale invasion of Canada or even the West coast itself.

Or he simply wants to hang on to his gains. That would make me just as happy as a Canada/WC invasion. Either way I win! [:)]

------------------------
SOPAC
------------------------

Finally got the time to sort this mess out. I´ve made some mistakes here and are now paying the price for it logistics wise. I let both Hiva Oa and Tahiti run dry of fuel. So I now have 2 big TFs stuck in Auckland...I also let Crisobal run dry. So instead of filling up Hiva Oa and Tahiti I had to send all the tankers to the EC to fill up Cristobal. This will cause at least a 4 week delay on my supply chain. Luckily I have enough fuel and supply in NZ to keep things going during that time.

We have a big OP coming up in a few days here. Luganville will be reinforced even further. Simultaneously we will land at Aoba and establish a new forward base North of Luganville. This time I´m not going to rely on small TFs. This is a big OP with good cover. I threw in a surprise here for Jeff. This is basically a trap. Lets see if he takes the bait!

I tried moving a small xAKL TF up to Townsville. I had hoped Jeff wasn´t keeping an eye up here but the TF was spotted and I had to pull it back. This will slow things down for now. I had hope to ship some engineers up to Portland Roads. They will now have to walk instead. Its a looooong walk. [:(]

------------------------
India
------------------------

Jeff has taken a stand a Chittagong. The rest of India is just mopping up for now. We upgraded to the latest BETA so I´m going to try another bombardment here shortly.

I also took a big risk here and decided to let the USN upgrade at Colombo. With Zuikaku moving for Pearl and at least 2 CVs in SOPAC I feel pretty safe from CV strikes in the IO. Nonetheless I have moved 100 Fighters to Colombo for CAP. This has removed my offensive capabilities for a while in India. Its a compromise.

During this time Force Z is on Ceylon guard awaiting BB Washingtons arrival from CT. Northampton, Vincennes and Houston just departed Aden after repairs and refits. This will boost my strength significantly. I´m chronically short on DDs though and this won´t be solved for a very long time.

------------------------
Overall situation
------------------------

I´m pretty happy and confident at the moment. Japanese forces concentrating in NORPAC/CENTPAC is truly a boon and gives me a lot of room to maneuver in India and SOPAC.

For now I´ll continue to power creep forward there while remaining on a defensive stance in NORPAC. Allied VPs are slowly rising thanks to base expansion in India, SOPAC and OZ. When Chungking falls we will take a big dip in VPs but there is no danger of AV. Chungking is already n red so we are not getting my VPs from that anyway so it will mostly be a boost to Japanese VPs.

Once forts are built up on the WC I can switch to expanding AFs/Ports which should get me some extra VPs as well. To sum it up I´m happy with the situation but not with my own play.

Another 2 IDs are unaccounted for. Last SIGINT I found was them going for India. But as far as I can remember I have never run into them in India. So they might be elsewhere.

Nice! How does that work? Are you there for the Hamburg match next Sunday?

I'll be close by from Thursday to Sunday in Bonn. Also for work. Should be fun! [8D]

We were supposed to watch the Bundeliga game on Saturday. But that one was moved so now we are going to see some lower league game. A bit of a bummer...Murphy at his best. [:(]

Regardless I think this is fake. PR is the worst place in NORPAC to invade. Besides if I remember correctly another part of the 48th is prepping for Victoria.

So at least for now I´ll write this of was fake.

As far as I can tell, you are doing very well.

As far as orders being unsent and/or not received, there is a highly technical military term for that - SNAFU! This can also explain all of the logistical errors as well.

Here is a list of the units beginning in Manchuria, and it also includes the unit organization for regiments and other parts of divisions. Can't vouch for completeness, as I picked it up along the way, but the 8th is there. Very good too, at 80exp.

Thanks Erik! That is really useful! [&o]

Went through IM looking for anything else on the 8th ID but that line is the only thing I could find. The very unlikely target selected will at least for now make me believe its a decoy.

Another quiet one. Don´t think the next one will be though...

------------------------
NORPAC/WC
------------------------

I move a small DD up from SF towards the North. I want to test Japanese air search here. The hit a 2/2 almost straight away. I´ll hang around for a day to see if remains or if it was a fluke.

------------------------
India
------------------------

All of the sudden a TF pops up outside Calcutta. Pretty bummed out I didn´t have any Naval bombers set. They are at Colombo training and still unfit for combat duty.

I decided to send in the British CAs under a heavy CAP. Fingers crossed for tomorrow.

------------------------
SOPAC
------------------------

A 4/4 DL on one of the amphib TFs. All combat TFs undetected at Efafe. Tomorrow they will move up to Luganville under a 150 fighter CAP.

This is a juicy bait. I´m 95% Jeff will bite after he spots them. He might react even this turn after spotting the Amphibs. I expect SCTF and CVs rushing down this turn or the next.

_____________________________________________________________________________

I was wrong. Nothing to report.

------------------------
NORPAC/WC
------------------------

San Diego is the first base in NORPAC (and the second on map) to reach level 9 forts. The engineers will move up to Los Angeles to help with construction there. Going by memory forts are already at around 8.3 there. Things should really take off once that is done as more and more engineers are freed up.

------------------------
India
------------------------

The British CAs fail to find a target and returns under the Calcutta CAP. Waiting for the CA Hawkins to arrive before I start bombarding Chittagong.

------------------------
SOPAC
------------------------

Strangely enough Jeff doesn´t come to visit at Luganville. He hasn´t gotten a really good fix on anything yet though. Luganville reinforcements are unloaded and the TF returns toward Noumea. The rest move to land at Aoba under Luganville LRCAP.

Jeff got a good DL on both my Amphibs and the Cruisers this turn. The trap is still not detected. Lets see if the Aoba landing can trigger a response.

Jeff has been very interested in Townsville and Cairns lately. I guess he noticed the rapid base expansion here. I reconned PM and much of lower NG and is very lightly held. I´m 1 hex short of being able to recon Rabaul though. Hence I wanted to expand Portland Roads to bring me within recon range...since I will have to walk there its a long way off though.

Jeff flipped that one back fast...

------------------------
NORPAC/WC
------------------------

Nothing here.

------------------------
India
------------------------

I´m starting to mass quite a selection of 4Es in the theater. 2 full groups just unloaded at Karachi. Another week or two before we are ready. [:)]

------------------------
SOPAC
------------------------

Jeff did make an appearance at Aoba. He clashed with our heavy CA group which was a bummer. I had hoped he wouldn´t have discovered them but rather thought them to be the CL TF. Now he knows Allied CAs are operating in the area.

I´ve decided to spring the trap though as the the trap itself get detected with a 2/2 DL down at Efafe. I don´t think Jeff will take the bait though with the discovery of Allied CAs.

A rare success. Sub activity have been really high lately with 3-5 allied attacks per turn for the last week or so. This is the first time with his something though.

1 hit and later another attack duds. The AMC was reading fire, heavy damage during that attack which is promising. She might sink. A long way from safe harbor. [:)]

I didn´t watch the whole battle but it looks like Phoenix took at least one main gun hit from Mutsu.

That pretty much concludes the Battle of Aoba Island. I´m pretty disappointed to be honest. The main part of my trap completely missed the action. I had a good TF setup. Surprised the Japanese TFs on both occasions yet failed to do anything meaningful with the opportunity.

Simply not good enough. None of the involved ships even gained any EXP. Not happy.

None of the Allied ships sustained any major damage and they will now pull back to OZ for refits. The operation will continue though. The main part of the trap will pull back and try to stay hidden.

We did recapture Aoba Island. This will hinder Japanese NavS in the lower New Hebrides.

Bif1961 -> RE: Canada and India invaded! (4/13/2016 6:45:04 PM)

Did you check the skills of the TF Commander and ship commanders before they sailed? It may be you commanders were not up to snuff?

Either commanders or lack of crew experience that usually goes with such poor results.

JocMeister -> RE: Canada and India invaded! (4/13/2016 8:36:35 PM)

Commanders where all up to snuff. Worst one was a DD captain with 50 skill.

Night EXP...not so stellar. But still not horrible. I think around 50 average but I have to look it up.

My subs continue to not deliver. Oh what I would give for a Japanese SSN...

Things are winding down here as pretty much everything is in place before the next push into the Santa Cruz islands. That are a few weeks off though. Jeff has taken all the small dot bases in the chain. I´ll use them to train up night experience for my ships.

Bombardments will commence in about a month once that important 10/42 refit is finished. Until then I´ll build up bases. Luganville should be able to receive 4Es shortly. Only smaller units will be committed here. The main push will be elsewhere. That one is also awaiting base expansion to catch up.

The massive aerial hammer is assembling in Calcutta under RAF CAP. Biggest concentration of bombers on the map so far. 150 4Es and 180 2Es will soon be available to help suppress Chittagong. Mostly USAAF.

CA Hawkings are also moving forward towards Calcutta to join up with the rest of the CAs and start bombarding from the sea. There is one cardinal rule of AE and that is to never defend a clear hex. Chittagong is a clear hex and I mean to make Jeff pay for staying there. [:)]

Have you replaced most of those bombers leaders?? I tend to do so for air groups that are never withdrawn. Looking at their experience levels, have you been able to train them in a second skill to raise it? I usually go with NavB.

Not most of the leader. All of them are 60 or higher. [:)]

I never train two skills for ground attack bombers. Most of them will only fly GRND anyway and eventually when they die doing that having trained them in another skill is lost time.

The ones that fly NavB are trained in both that and NavS though.

I think you may want to consider doing so, as increasing a second skill will help increase their experience levels.

For my attack bombers for example, I actually use fighter pilots trained in Air and Strafe, because bombing from 100-ft altitude uses Strafe instead of GrdB or LowG, and fighter pilots are easier to train. Doing this should help you maintain a faster and fuller pipeline for your level bomber pilots.
