If you don't train more than one skill you will never get overall experience and defense out of the mid 50s.

When you train a single skill to 70, your overall experience is not gonna get out of the 50s.

If the only skill you train is not LOW then you're never gonna get defense out of the mid 50s.

Train fighter pilots in Air (offense) to 70. This gets OA XP to mid 50s. Switch to training strafing and both OA XP and Defense will start gaining again and climb out of the mid 50s.

The same is true for bomber pilots. After training main skill to 70, switch to another skill to spur gains in OA XP again.

JocMeister -> RE: Canada and India invaded! (4/15/2016 7:18:12 AM)

I multitrain fighter pilots too. First up to 70 air and them put them on strafe until EXP reaches 50. Then backwater CAP until deemed fit for combat duty. Usually past mid 43 all my fighter pilots in combat are 70EXP 70 Air and 70 DEF.

Though I don´t find it useful to dual train bomber pilots. I simply take too much time. I train them up to 70 ground and dump them into the pools regardless of EXP. Dual training them would take way too much time. They will have to catch up with training in their combat squadrons or learn on the job. At least for now. Talking about pilots I intend to use for ground bombing here obviously.

Pilots trained for NavB or LowN are also trained in NavS. CV pilots in NavS and ASW in addition to their primary skill. Patrol pilots in NavS and ASW...

Nothing too exiting for the Allies coming up. But some nice additions to the Navy. BB Indiana shows up together with CA Wichita ,CL Columbia and CL Cleveland. The first Clevelands will certainly send a shiver down Jeffs spine. 4 Clevelands and 8 Fletchers....[sm=00000028.gif]

Air wise its not an exciting month. Recon version of the Wildkitten and the Beufighter VIc.

On the ground there isn´t much exciting coming in either. More engineers. And more engineers. And more engineers... [:D]

I decided on a plan for India and prepped all units. With so much of the Japanese forces going for NORPAC/CENTPAC I can certainly afford to be aggressive here. A bombardment of Chittagong shows that the Japanese are far weaker then anticipated.

Japanese ground losses:
39 casualties reported
Squads: 0 destroyed, 4 disabled
Non Combat: 1 destroyed, 0 disabled
Engineers: 0 destroyed, 1 disabled

Allied ground losses:
171 casualties reported

I do exacty what Jocke suggests here as well.

A lot depends on the starting quality of your pilots. Often, for training, the worse they are the quicker and more flexible the training can be. I want to start with 10-30exp pilot trainees. By the time they get to 70 skill they're only 30-40exp. Then the several weeks on 100ft sweep for defense and they get to 70 defense about the time they get to 50 exp. If they are still below 50exp then they get assigned to rear area CAP.

For real multi-skill training I like the very poor beginners. So for my IJN TB pilots I'd train to 70 TT, to 70 naval bombing, to 60 search and eventually to 70 ASW. Some of that happens when they're already in an active unit, but LBA. When nothing is happening in their theatre they keep training. Or when CVs traverse long distances, some of them are training.

For LBA I'd like to train either low naval or naval bombing, but this also happens while there is no action. I also throw them in at 42-48exp after ground bombing training and they have to earn the rest on duty.

That will be it for the weekend guys. Leaving in a couple of hours for Dusseldorf! Going to see the Leverkusen vs. Frankfurt game on Saturday. Back home on Sunday but might not be in condition to do any turns! [:D]

BBfanboy -> RE: Canada and India invaded! (4/15/2016 1:40:27 PM)

I don't think it will be that easy Jocke. He has a good mix of AA regiments, anti-tank, heavy and medium arty, and some experienced troops. Don't like the gun losses you suffered on the bombardment - his heavy arty is good at counterbattery fire. I think it will be a long grind unless he is low on supply.

He will have a really hard time to keep the supply flowing there unless he can brake the naval blockade. Plan is to soften them up using naval bombardments and high altitude bombings to burn off the supply first. [:)]

Symon suggested to me that an Allied player use some of the American Marine CD units along the coast in India/Burma in response to me asking where is the Allied heavy artillery. If you have any in theater, send them to Chittagong.

Back from Dusseldorf. Man...any place in the world where beer is cheaper then water is my kind of place. Getting too old for 3 days of party though. Getting up this morning was really tough. At least we saw most of the bars, the hospital and a couple of us had to spend the night in jail. Epic trip! [:D]

------------------------
SOPAC
------------------------

Dispatched Achilles and Leander to deal with the raiders around Hiva Oa. Hope it will be enough. They will join up with two AOs from Auckland and should arrive in 2-3 weeks.

Feeling kind of naked down here with most of the Navy refitting. The CLs and DDs are soon finished though.

------------------------
India
------------------------

Not much to report. Tomorrow I should know how much opposition is left in Eastern India. A test bombardment is ordered on Jeffs main stack.

------------------------
NORPAC
------------------------

Nothing here.

Sadly...I lost most of them in the initial attack into CENTPAC. They are back in action but without their guns. Besides all of them are in SOPAC.

Yet another ID moving for NORPAC/WC.

Nothing.

India
------------------------

Jeff went all in and attacked a US tank battalion from the air at Comilla. They took a beating losing all their support and 12 Stuarts. The British will provide some LRCAP tomorrow. Expecting heavy sweeps but I´ll see how the Brits perform before doing something big here.

It sure looks like he is preparing to attack somewhere beyond Hawaii. IIRC he has all the Aleutians, and the islands south of Hawaii don't seem worthwhile. That would leave West coast, but that is a pretty long coast. Should be interesting .... (kind of like the Chinese curse "May you live in interesting times"!).

It was a good laugh though! [:)]

Yeah, I have been convinced the troop movements has been a defensive move. But with the amount of troops he is moving into the area... and its not sure I picked them all up either.

An attack on the WC still sounds impossible though. But I´ll go through it once more and look at exactly what I have.

Remind me not to go out with Swedes on holiday! [:D]

Glad it was fun though. German beer is very good!!

In Bonn they won't even serve Altbier as it's an import from Dusseldorf. It's all Kolch.

Speedysteve -> RE: Canada and India invaded! (4/19/2016 7:03:11 PM)

Lol. I thought I had some good weekends in my past Jocke but nothing trumps that [:D]

RangerJoe -> RE: Canada and India invaded! (4/19/2016 8:32:11 PM)

I spent two years in Germany and I really liked the altbier!

Check to see if it is just fragments going to/preparing for the West Coast. They could just be small fragments and not substantial parts of the units.

If you can take and hold Chittagong, he will have difficulties supplying his units in India. Good Luck!

Have you rescued any Chinese units that can be bought out?

Never say "Kolch" in Düsseldorf or you will be in trouble. Kolch is served in Köln (Cologne) and people from these two cities hate each other like the plague.

Yes, this is exactly what I gathered. And they're what, 40-50km apart? [:D]

Bonn seems like an extension of Koln in temperament at least, and they have some good Kolch-style unfiltered varieties that are really good.

Some Japanese moves!

------------------------
NORPAC
------------------------

Nothing here. But more troops moving for PH identified via SIGINT. This time an AA unit!

------------------------
SOPAC

A Japanese CA fleet bombards Luganville. CD guns are ineffective as usual but a DD runs into a mine!

quote:

TF 34 encounters mine field at Luganville (120,150)

Japanese Ships
DD Matsukaze, Mine hits 1, on fire, heavy damage

And then comes the bombardments. A bit annoyed this didn´t happen 2 weeks ago when I had everything ready to hit back.

quote:

Night Naval bombardment of Luganville at 120,150 - Coastal Guns Fire Back!

Allied aircraft
no flights

Allied aircraft losses
P-40E Warhawk: 33 damaged
P-40E Warhawk: 3 destroyed on ground
P-39D Airacobra: 51 damaged
P-39D Airacobra: 2 destroyed on ground
P-400 Airacobra: 25 damaged
Vildebeest IV: 4 damaged
Vildebeest IV: 1 destroyed on ground

15 Coastal gun shots fired in defense.

Japanese Ships
CA Kako
CA Furutaka
CA Aoba
CA Kumano
CA Mogami
CA Atago
CA Chikuma

Allied ground losses:
454 casualties reported
Squads: 0 destroyed, 2 disabled
Non Combat: 10 destroyed, 59 disabled
Engineers: 0 destroyed, 14 disabled
Guns lost 17 (1 destroyed, 16 disabled)
Vehicles lost 15 (2 destroyed, 13 disabled)

Airbase hits 15
Airbase supply hits 5
Runway hits 45

Looks a lot worse then it is. Runway is still open and actual losses are 5 P40s, 3 P39s and a Vilderbeest. I´ll fly everything out though. With most of the fleet refitting I´m not willing to contest these bombardments right now. I´ll drop more mines and send some subs in. That is pretty much all I can do at the moment. Only Australia and Canberra are operational and I´m not going to risk them against 7 Japanese CAs.

------------------------

Japanese CVs and LBA strike the empty Clonecurry for some STRAT VPs. Nothing I can do about. Not sure why he bothered with the CVs though? No ID on any of the CVs nor planes.

quote:

Morning Air attack on Cloncurry , at 84,142

Raid spotted at 44 NM, estimated altitude 6,000 feet.
Estimated time to target is 18 minutes

Japanese aircraft
A6M2 Zero x 17
B5N1 Kate x 14
B5N2 Kate x 59
D3A2 Val x 58

No Japanese losses

Resources hits 68

This is followed by the oddest thing of it all.

quote:

Ground combat at Hughenden (88,145)

Japanese Shock attack

Attacking force 104 troops, 1 guns, 0 vehicles, Assault Value = 8

Defending force 0 troops, 0 guns, 0 vehicles, Assault Value = 0

Japanese adjusted assault: 8

Allied adjusted defense: 1

Japanese assault odds: 8 to 1 (fort level 0)

Japanese forces CAPTURE Hughenden !!!

Combat modifiers
Attacker: shock(+), leaders(-)

Assaulting units:
2nd Raiding Rgt /1

Only thing I can think of is that he wants to prevent me to rail in AA to Clonecurry. I wouldn´t have bothered but he doesn´t know that. [:)]

I´ll see if he flies in some more before I take it back.

------------------------
India

The expected sweeps on Comilla doesn´t happen. My ASW TFs fail to find a Japanese sub that showed up yesterday.

When you boil it all down he has committed 104 paratroopers to the Australian theater to cut a rail line, and he has conducted a carrier raid. The paratroopers are sacrificial lambs unless the Japanese can figure out a method of withdrawing them before you can send a small force to eliminate them. Given the clear terrain you might be able to eliminate the paratroopers with air strikes alone.

Shouldn't require any resources you do not already have in Australia to deal with this, nor should it materially interfere with any plans you may have.

ny59giants -> RE: Canada and India invaded! (4/20/2016 7:05:51 PM)

Luganville - It might be worth it in the future to have a few CV TFs far enough away (and not sighted) to do Full Speed run to get in range in the AM Phase after he has bombarded the base. Maybe he doesn't LRCAP them. [;)]

PTs and mines can work to cause some consternation on occasion. I like a lone fast four stacker CL hidden close by as well.

Pretty much what I have been doing up until now. Had them within striking range for 2 months before I decided to pull them back for refits. [:(]
