Wow..JJ is going to get booted out of LA. They will have to evacuate from Santa Barbara under duress which means somebody is going to get left behind.

I sure hope so. [:)]

Japanese troop strength
_____________________________________________________________________________

Forgot to take a screen of the lone Japanese unit at SD. Its a lone unit but no numbers. I was thinking about counter attacking but I donīt dare take any risks here.

At least one unit have started to move back from the SD push...that is good news for us. Also looks like Jeff is moving more units into LA. Also good news as it is clear that the attacks have started to draw more Japanese units into LA. I donīt need to win at LA. I only need to tie down enough Japanese forces to make it impossible for him to take SD. If I manage that I have won.

+1 to this. IMHO you want a Stalingrad sort of strategy here (on the Soviet side!) which is to say that you draw the enemy forces in to an area they can't completely control and that will leave them highly vulnerable to being cut off and, eventually, destroyed.

Cap Mandrake -> RE: Invasion West Coast! (7/5/2016 7:15:53 PM)

I just realized the IJA must have taken the I-5 from Santa Ana to get to LA. This means if they are driven back toward Santa Ana you will be able to concentrate on the forces South of LA, including the two clear hexes.

You need to knock on the back door before they take San Diego and pretty much ignore Santa Barbara.

Doubt it matters based on hexside control, but that one unit turns off your LI production at SD. In stock that's 160 LI.

paullus99 -> RE: Invasion West Coast! (7/5/2016 8:45:58 PM)

He's going to be pressed against the West Coast and annihilated.....

Isn't it just the resources that are disabled, while the LI continues to run with what's already there until they run out?

I have forgotten more about this game than I remember but I thought that by having a unit enter a base hex it stopped resource generation but the LI & HI would continue to run (theoretically because they were inside the city?) until the resource reserves ran out.

That agrees with my memory on it too, but I am not 100% certain.

Invasion Day 6
_____________________________________________________________________________

A bloody day in the air. Or naval strikes failed horribly. But if you disregard the naval strike losses we did very well.

Tomorrow its P47 time! [sm=00000028.gif]

The way memory can flip on you . . .

I brought this up way back in my first PBEM (the AARed one) and started a thread in Tech.

http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=3247334

Interesting thread. Basically, the manual talks to Oil and Resources, but not supply or fuel production in a dual-occupied hex. Around patch 5 or 6 an undocumented change was made to turn LI and HI off. This is the one I saw in my game and brought up. Michael lists the then current code checks in that thread. A discussion ensued with many participants (including witpqs) about whether the change should have been made. Michael eventually changed it back, but with limits on HI production.

"20/01/13: 1123 - Restored original code that allowed LI,REF to produce when enemy LCU in hex
Partially restore original code that allowed HI to produce, but only if no enemy LCU or for port >3, no enemy TF in hex "

Summary: San Diego LI will continue so long as Resources are stockpiled there.

Sorry for the memory fart.

Interesting -- you still found a use for the Airacobras in 1943.

RangerJoe -> RE: Invasion West Coast! (7/7/2016 4:52:31 AM)

I like the Airacobra for CAP. They can easily kill bombers and at a low altitude, they can handle enemy fighters pretty well.

http://militaryhistory.about.com/od/WorldWarIIFighters/p/World-War-Ii-Bell-P-39-Airacobra.htm

JocMeister -> RE: Invasion West Coast! (7/7/2016 7:10:05 AM)

Its a PDU OFF game so even Aircobras have a use. [:)]

I use them for low altitude CAP/LRCAP. Iīll be flying some squadrons until late 43 and even into 44!

JocMeister -> RE: Invasion West Coast! (7/7/2016 7:11:00 AM)

Got the replay (absolutely nothing happened as sweeps rained in). No turn yet though. Thought I would have it this morning but no luck.

Hopefully Iīll get it during the afternoon.

Barb -> RE: Invasion West Coast! (7/7/2016 7:31:29 AM)

Well it is not just a PDU OFF game thing - to run various planes around... It is just a thing of finding a proper use for every single airframe you have! Each is a weapon, even a Nate or P-26! Each can help in some way... be it training or flying some escort or CAP or whatever... Just do not have them in the eye of the storm! :D

In one of my pbems I have 4 Ki-43-Ia Oscars still flying escort in China in march 1943! Simply because there is no need to have IIa or IIb or Tojo there :D Once they got shot down or crash they will get replaced by something else. But till then, they will be flying :D

Invasion Day 7
_____________________________________________________________________________

I didnīt order any attacks at LA this turn. Wanted to let the troops rest a little bit. Tomorrow we attack with full strength. 4000 AV. Fingers crossed...

Sweeps rained in with thunderstorms over Santa Ana. New try today.

Subs got in among the sheep and sank two ships.

Operation Pencil
_____________________________________________________________________________

Critical day tomorrow...I donīt expect too much Japanese resistance but surely he will do something. D day -2. I really have too little CV support but a huge Surface fleet. Iīm hoping it can make up for the lack of airpower.

Rabaul
_____________________________________________________________________________

Somewhat of a milestone in the war the first recon flight returns with intel from the Japanese stronghold in SOPAC. As expected there is very little here. I expect most of SOPAC to be more or less empty.

If Jeff doesnīt make AV soon he will be in big problems. Although Iīm not sure he can make AV even if he manages to capture SD and the troop VPs from Chungking.

VP ratio is hovering around 3,1:1 as it has been for the last year or so. If allied VPs freeze at the current level he needs 10051 VPs for AV.

I donīt think that is possible.
