combining beams and phasers (Full Version)

In a tech redesign I'm using I want some ship designs to use phasers, and others to use beams - for various reasons. However, despite that weaponPhaser is a seperate field in ship design the game seems to treat it as just another weaponBeam entry - either a ship is using all beams or all phasers. Is there any way around this, or will I have to redesignate my beams as WeaponSuperBeam? I'd hate to do that, for several reasons.

It's possible I'm just screwing something up, so if anyone's successfully done this - do tell.

EDIT:
I figured it out - if you have Beams listed as a higher focus level than Phasers for ResearchDesignTechFocus, then the autodesigner will privilege beams at all times. Removing both Beams and Phasers from the focus fields solved the issue. [:)]
