Lowpe -> RE: Manila Falls (4/20/2016 8:16:34 PM)

Hotspur is sunk...

Off San Francisco....this is a little bold, but so far nothing is spotted by either side. I am looking to ambush one of those nasty 4 CL/6 DD task force Jocke has running around.

I just moved in several task forces into Coal Harbor and Aliford Bay. They will retire in a day.

TF Hiryu is well covered by land based air (float and fixed) search.

The Tone is set to pretty much be a coward and flee at any potential sightings.

The Iboats provide a little extra scouting.

I am seriously tempted to run the Tone into San Francisco harbor ala Ironman Nasty Nasty! What a feat of daring do that would be!!!!

Lowpe -> RE: Manila Falls (4/20/2016 8:31:40 PM)

These two Chinese corps put up a great fight against the Guards Tank Division, so I have decided to encircle and kill them to the last man.

We will just think positive thoughts.[:D]

Actually, I have seen the AI do it in Ironman Nasty Nasty numerous times and never get dinged, by either mines or the shore battery.

I don't see how I could get close enough without being spotted, but boy would it be classic. [sm=00000289.gif]

This cracked me up for some reason. All I can do is add a John 3rd style, "Banzai!"

Lowpe -> RE: Manila Falls (4/20/2016 11:53:30 PM)

Here are the pilots that swept Comilla two days ago, and yesterday they escorted the Betty strike against the hapless Hotspur.

A little tired, so I will stand them down.

They destroyed 20 Allied fighters over Comilla for a loss of 5 in A2A and 1 to ops. These are the kind of pilots you want to be sweeping with, but watch plane and pilot fatigue. And morale, that can bounce around quite a bit.

That they have so few kills is testimony to the Allies not flying CAP unless forced to -- like my 1-2 whammy at Comilla. Hitting the tanks and then the LRCAP.

The last thing I want is their fighting to be contagious among the other Chinese units. An example must be made!

Ok, Obvert, I have taken this to be a challenge. Let us see what happens tomorrow, and then if not spotted, we are entering San Francisco harbor, and we will make a cruise around Alcatraz. [sm=sterb003.gif]

Welcome aboard!

Most likely nothing will happen...but you never know.

Lowpe -> RE: Manila Falls (4/21/2016 5:49:34 PM)

2nd Week of November, 1942

Remember that CM naval search from Port Moresby spotted the other day, near Palm Island. Well, they disappeared from search, so a blind attack on the port facility at Palm bears some fruit.

Love sinking those Dutch mine layers.

Are those fishing boats?

Lokasenna -> RE: Manila Falls (4/21/2016 7:54:01 PM)

Look like YPs, yeah. Probably for ASW? Still, free VPs.

Are you getting bombed in the day phase? ;)

Lowpe -> RE: Manila Falls (4/21/2016 7:54:24 PM)

3 VPs![sm=00000028.gif]

My Iboats didn't spot hide nor hair of anything the day prior, so I decided to only send in a destroyer. Perfectly done, now she is west of Eureka and will join up with the invisible Tone and task force Hyuga will meander a little further south (not out of land based search arcs) hoping to catch a response from Seattle area.

Another hit on American morale![:D]

Getting there. TF Akagi has gone dark. Will reload and move on to other operations. The operation.

My first purposeful destruction of Chinese units.

[image]local://upfiles/44178/DF7A41CCF16243ACBFA83EA1438B8497.jpg[/image]

Sian is so close to falling. c30 Chinese units there and I keep missing a 2-1 by scant points. Will try again in 2-3 days. You should see the fleet of Sonia's working over the Chinese.[X(]

Alfred -> RE: Manila Falls (4/22/2016 2:26:27 PM)

Just acquiring the 6 Chinese bases shown in post #1405 to be still under Allied control is a potential 2690 VP swing and a useful decrease in the VP denominator.  There should be other Chinese bases still to be captured.  Plus this is all without taking into account the VPs from destroying Chinese devices.

Another benefit of capturing the Chinese bases is that the VP multiplier is much better than the modifier on the Indian bases which might be lost.  A better modifier and safe from Allied recapture at least until 1944 makes China a theatre which merits speedy resolution within the context of pushing at the West Coast for an auto victory.

Add the steady harvesting of strategic VPs in Australia from Allied bases which are most unlikely to be garrisoned to any noticeable degree, means the potential for achieving an auto victory remains.  Remember the real secret to a Japanese auto victory is 1944, not 1943.  The point of going for the victory in 1943 is more to cripple the Allied return effort so that the 3:1 ratio achieved in 1943 is safeguarded into 1944.  Of course with excellent play, there is always the possibility of achieving it sometime in 1943.  It is just that achieving it on 1 January 1943 is very difficult.

Alfred

Lowpe -> RE: Manila Falls (4/22/2016 2:51:37 PM)

No joy here. I had a sub spotted 2 days ago, and 10 hexes or so to the east, and I couldn't get past the Sub Chasers.

There is a chance I can get an attack in during the first naval reaction phase of the night as none of my subs are spotted.

I believe I know the route of this convoy and I am dispatching the Atago and a destroyer escort to try and intercept them. I have to sneak past Allied naval search, but just possibly I can catch this force as it traverses the map.

Lowpe -> RE: Manila Falls (4/22/2016 2:55:25 PM)

I think the convoy is going to go straight thru this particular hex.

When you are confident of similar route paths, you could time a drop off from a single sub of mines. Although the minefield will quickly degrade (hence the importance of timing) it is almost certain the minefield will be totally unknown and thus the enemy will move right into it.

Lowpe -> RE: Manila Falls (4/22/2016 3:27:25 PM)

I suspect there will be a lot of fireworks this next turn. There is a slight chance of a small carrier engagement.[X(] I say slight.

But, I am betting there will loads of carnage.

Stay tuned!
